Mary Barlow and Jacob Crouch

Generation 3

MARY3 BARLOW (John2, Thomas1) was born 27 November 1773 in Albemarle County Virginia,

She married about 1779 to JACOB CROUCH. He was born 01 November 1774 in Bedford Co Virginia, the son of JOHN CROUCH and JUDITH WIGGINS.

JACOB CROUCH, SR. was one of a very large family that came to North Carolina from Bedford Co Virginia, and settled on Beaver Creek, Wilkes Co in 1797. Jacob and Mary lived for many years on the Crosthwait place in present day Caldwell County, but they moved between 1850 and 1860 to Alexander County where they are buried at Three Forks Baptist Church in Little River Township. Mary died 09 August 1862 and Jacob died 03 December 1869.

vi.	ABIGAIL CROUCH born about 1811 She married ANANIAS WEST, born about 1807, son of ALEXANDER WEST and PATIENCE L. ALLEN. They probably moved to Missouri
4 vii.	JACOB CROUCH, JR. was born 16 May 1813 and died 14 May 1892
viii.	CYNTHIA CROUCH born about 1815 She married LINDSEY LIVINGSTON on 27 December 1838, son of JOHN LIVINGSTON and his first wife, CHARITY CARRELL. He was born about 1815. They lived on Beaver Creek, Wilkes Co in the 1840 census, with one son.
ix.	EMILY BARLOW born about 1818. She never married and was still living with her parents in 1850.

Generation 4

1.	JOHN4 CROUCH (Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1799. He married MARTHA HOLSCLAW on 24 March 1825, daughter of JOSEPH HOLSCLAW and a sister of JOHN HOLSCLAW who married CHARLOTTE BARLOW. She was born about 1803 and died between 1870-1880.

John Crouch was a manager of the Caldwell County Poor House in 1850 and later, until his removal to Burke Co in the late 1850's. In 1870, he was living near Hartland in western Caldwell Co and in 1880 was again in in Burke Co near Chesterfield.

iv.	MARY T. CROUCH born about 1832. She married GEORGE MARTIN MCGOWAN, born in Iredell Co about 1833, son of ELIZA MCGOWAN, a sister of JASPER C. MCGOWAN of Caldwell Co, living in Sharpsburg Township, Iredell Co, near Stony Point in 1880.
v.	JACOB CROUCH born about 1834 died 1915, unmarried. He is buried at Littlejohn's United Methodist Church, with his sister, 'Nan', under one headstone with the inscription, 'Brother and Sister'

2.	ELIPHALET4 CROUCH (Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1802. He married AILSEY OXFORD, daughter of JAMES OXFORD and his second wife, HANNAH BARNES, in about 1825. They were living on Beaver Creek, Wilkes Co in 1840 with five sons and three daughters.

Only known child of ELIPHALET CROUCH and AILSEY OXFORD is:

7 i.	HANNAH SELENA5 CROUCH born about 1826 and died after 1850

3.	ELIZABETH4 CROUCH (Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1804 and died before 1850. She married HENRY REED on 26 April 1823, son of JESSE REED and JUDITH. He was born about 1802. They lived in Burke Co --later Caldwell, present day Alexander Co North Carolina

They had at least five, possibly seven or eight children, only one has been positively identified:

She married SMITH FERGUSON WALKER on 01 September 1855 in Wilkes Co North Carolina, son of ISAAC WALKER AND SARAH ROBERTS, a brother of RICHARD WILSON WALKER who married MARY R. STORIE. They lived on Warrior Creek, Wilkes Co. They divorced, and Smith F. Walker married second, MRS. AMANDA FERGUSON BARLOW, widow of H. HARRISON BARLOW, he had no children by either wife. ASENATH resumed her maiden name after the divorce and was living in Beaver Creek Township, Wilkes Co in 1880.

JACOB4 CROUCH (Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born 16 May 1813 and died 14 August 1892. The Reverend JACOB CROUCH was a Baptist minister in Alexander Co North Carolina where he is buried at Three Forks Church.

He married 1.) SUSANNA SHERRIL, c1833. She was born 22 November 1811, daughter of DAVID SHERRIL and THIRZA LITTEN. She died 19 December 1874.
He married 2.) TABITHA FOX

Known children of JACOB CROUCH and SUSANNA SHERRIL are:

ii.	IRENA CROUCH born about 1836
iii.	NELSON CROUCH born 25 November 1838 and died 25 September 1908. He married AMANDA, born on 04 November 1833 and died on 15 February 1894. Both are buried at Three Forks Baptish Church in Alexander Co North Carolina
iv.	LAWSON CROUCH born about 1840
v.	LOUVENA CROUCH born 08 June 1849 and died 09 April 1855. She is buried at Three Forks Baptist Church in Alexander Co North Carolina

Generation 5

5.	ANNA5 CROUCH (John4, Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1828. She married BENJAMIN CLARK, JR. about 1852. He was born ibout 1820, the son of BENJAMIN CLARK and SARAH, of present day Caldwell County. Anna died within a few years leaving one child.

6.	ELIPHALET5 CROUCH (John4, Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1838. He married MARY JANE KINCAID on 07 January 1868 in Caldwell Co North Carolina. She was born in 1848, the daughter of WILLIAM M. KINCAID and ELIZABETH SETZER.

Children of ELIPHALET CROUCH and MARY KINCAID are:

i.	ELIZABETH6 CROUCH born about 1868. She married L.C. BROOKS 16 October 1887
ii.	WILLIAM CROUCH born about 1871. He married MARY IDA RADER 05 November 1887

HANNAH SELENA5 CROUCH (Eliphalet4, Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1826 and died after 1850.

She married ZEPHANIAH WALKER, son of GEORGE WALKER and MARGARET LAWS on 26 September 1843. He was born about 1820. They lived on Warrior Creek, Beaver Creek Township, Wilkes County, ZEPH married AMANDA L. ROBERTS, after Hannah's death.

ii.	NELSON WALKER born about 1846

IRENA5 CROUCH (Jacob4, Mary3, John2, Thomas1) was born about 1836 and died in June 1879.

She married JOEL HUBBARD BROWN, son of JESSE BROWN, ESQ. and his second wife, MARY JOHNSON of Alexander Co North Carolina. Joel was born about 1834. Between 1870 and 1877, they moved to Yadkin Valley of Buffalo Township, Caldwell Co North Carolina where they rented part of the Palmyra plantation from Samuel L. Patterson, and where Irena died in childbirth.
J. Hubbard Brown married second, on 06 July 1880 MRS. MARTHA JANE LAND TRIPLETT, widow of J. WELLINGTON TRIPLETT, and a daugher of WILSON LAND and REBECCA MILLER. They moved to Texas by 1894.

ii.	MARY LOUISA BROWN born about 1859 She married LUTHER L. NELSON, son of JAMES M. NELSON AND JANE E. SIMMONS, on 27 March 1878. He was born about 1852
iii.	JEFFERSON DAVIS BROWN born about 1861
iv.	LILLY A. BROWN born about 1863
v.	FRANCES M. BROWN born about 1865
vi.	ZEBULON F. BROWN born about 1867
vii.	MARY M. E. BROWN born about 1869
viii.	CHARLES SPURGEON BROWN born about 1871 He married MARGARET E. MELTON, daughter of JAMES G. MELTON and his second wife, LOUISA GILBERT, of Wilkes Co North Carolina in December 1894.
ix.	SON BROWN born and died June 1879, lived one day
