Ruth Barlow and John Wallace

Generation 3

RUTH3 BARLOW (John2, Thomas1) was born 30 September 1771 in Virginia, the daughter of John Barlow, and his first wife, Elizabeth and died 04 December 1841 in Jefferson Co Indiana.

She married JOHN WALLACE in Wilkes or Iredell Co North Carolina. He was born in Virginia on 15 December 1771, to JAMES WALLACE and JANE/JEAN/JANET BEARD. He died probably in Gallatin Co, now Carroll Co Kentucky, as his will was found in Gallatin Co.

The following information about John and Ruth Wallace was submitted to the Barlow of Barlow newsletter, Volume I, Issue 4, page 31 by Connie Dawe of Arvada Colorado, who says the marriage took place about 1797, and that the family first settled in Scott Co Kentucky. John Wallace, died 24 July 1830 in Scott Co Kentucky. Ruth died 04 December 1841 in Jefferson Co Indiana and she is the first person buried in Hopewell Cemetery in Volga, Indiana. Mrs. Dawe cites sources as follows:

Children of RUTH BARLOW and JOHN WALLACE are:

1 i.	JOHN4 WALLACE born 04 May 1798 , Georgetown Scott Co Kentucky and died 26 August 1866 near Cottage Inn, Lafayette Co Wisconsin.
ii.	ELIZABETH WALLACE born 08 March 1800 in Georgetown Scott Co Kentucky and died 25 December 1863 in Jefferson Co Indiana. She married WILLIAM CONWAY
iii.	WILLIAM WALLACE was born 05 April 1802 in Georgetown Scott Co Kentucky. He was a minister. He married SARAH CONWAY on 21 December 1820.
iv.	JAMES WALLACE was born 01 September 1804 in Georgetown Scott Co Kentucky and died 13 May 1863 in Jefferson Co Indiana. He married MARY MORRIS

Generation 4

JOHN4 WALLACE (RUTH3, JOHN2, THOMAS1) was born on 04 May 1798 in Georgetown, Scott Co Kentucky.

He married 1.) ELIZABETH SARAH GILTNER on 25 February 1823. She was born on 31 March 1798 in Bourbon Co Kentucky, the daughter of FRANCIS GILTNER and ANNE ELIZABETH BOYER. She died 11 October 1854 in Volga, Jefferson Co Indiana, where she is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery.
He married 2.) ELIZA DeLONG 12 April 1855, a widow. They moved to Lafayette Co Wisconsin and had two more daughters.

Children of JOHN WALLACE and ELIZABETH GILTNER are:

i.	MARY5 WALLACE born 30 November 1823 in Kentucky, and died on 11 June 1850 near Volga, Jefferson Co Indiana, burial in Hopewell Cemetery. She married RICHARD M. COX on 21 September 1843
ii.	OKEY WALLACE born about 1825 in Kentucky, and died about 1826 in Kentucky
iii.	JOHN M. WALLACE born 07 July 1827 and died 14 October 1915 in Moscow Latah Co Idaho. He married 1.) MINERVA DUFFY on 17 December 1846 He married 2.) RETTA LAWLER on 21 September 1854

Note from Connie Dawes:
We visited the cemtery there and found he and Retta buried side by side and covered by a 10 x 15 concrete slab with "Wallace - 1915" written on it. We would never have known for sure it was them if we hadn't gone to the library first and found their obituaries. Thank goodness, the local genealogical society had extracted obituaries for that period. I told my husband that if I ever won the lottery, I was going to have their whole genealogy put on that concrete slab, there is certainly plenty of room for it.

iv.	ELIZABETH WALLACE born 07 August 1829. She married WILLIAM COCHRAN on 04 March 1852
v.	BEN WALLACE born 20 November 1831 and died 28 May 1867. He married CATHERINE ANDERSON on 19 October 1854
