27.  JOHN W.4 BARLOW (MATTHEW JAMES3, ALFRED HIRTON2, JOHN1) was born August 28, 1857 in Neosho Newton Co Missouri, and died January 23, 1918 in Bartlesville Oklahoma, burial in Caney, Montgomery Co Kansas.

He married MARY JANE 'Molly' LEE in 1882, daughter of Randolph Lee and Eliza Summerville.  Born September 1858 in Illinois, or Greensboro Indiana, she died February 1951 in Tulsa Oklahoma.

For a number of years, the iron work, incident to the commercial life of Caney, has been done almost exclusively by this 'hardy son of toil' and whose merry anvil has rung out a cheery song of prosperity, since he first tapped its flinty face, within the city limits. Nor has this prosperity been the result of brawn entirely; brain has counted in the story; intelligent management, and pain-staking effort to please has united, with a skilled hand, to make the owner one of the leading citizens of the city.

John W. Barlow was born in Neosho, Missouri on the 28th of August 1857. His father's name was Matthew J. Barlow, a native of the state of Tennessee. He settled in Missouri, when a young man where he learned the blacksmithing trade, a vocation which he followed during his entire life. In Missouri, he met and married Elizabeth Alexander, also a native of Tennessee, and, after a number of years' residence there, removed to Kansas, in the spring of 1863.

He settled in Neosho Falls, but, in June of the same year, answered the call of his country and went to the front, as a member of Company "M" Ninth Kansas Volunteer Cavalry. He served, in this regiment, to the close of the war, his discharge dating July 11, 1865. He resumed work at the forge and lived for several years, at Neosho Falls. He then passed short periods in Altoona, Fredonia and New Albany, where he died in 1885, at the age of fifty-six years.

The wife still survives him and now resides in Oklahoma Territory, at the advance age of eighty one years.

The family of these parents consisted of three children, two daughters besides our subject, Mary and Laura, both living.

John W. passed his childhood, for the most part, in Woodson Co Kansas, and was inured to the hardships and privations of the early settlers in that time. He learned the blacksmith trade, in his fathers shop, and early on became one of his most expert hands.

He remained with his father until his death, and, after a short trial of conducting the shop alone, sold out and went to Fredonia where he worked, as a journeyman, for the following two years.

In 1891, he came to Caney and, beginning at the very bottom of the ladder, has gradually forged to the front, until he owns a large shop and a nice resident property all the result of his own efforts. Mr. Barlow takes a keen interest in the welfare of his adopted city, and his executive ability, so successful in the management of his own affairs, has won for him the honor of representation in the city council, where his work has been of the greatest practical value. He has served a number of terms and has occupied the honored position of chairman, and is now mayor of the city. He is, also the present efficient township treasurer he affiliates with the Odd Fellows, New Albany Lodge, and is a popular member of the M.W. of A.

In the year 1882, Mr. Barlow was happily joined in marriage with Mary J. Lee, daughter of Randolph and Mary Lee. This was an Indiana family, who came to Kansas in 1881.

Mr. and Mrs. Barlow are the parents of eight children, as follows: Claud, Lulu, Grover, Burl, Elizabeth, Furn, Pauline and Nellie. Mr. and Mrs. Barlow are members of the M.E. church.

John Barlow, aged 60 years, was killed yesterday on lease No. 283, known as the Styner lease. The derrick of a pipe pulling machine fell on him, causing his death.

He leaves a wife, four daughters and three sons.

The body will be taken to Caney today for burial.

MARY JANE BARLOW DIES IN TULSA AT 92
Rites Pending for Widow of Early-Day Osage Official

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Mrs. Mary Jane Barlow, 92, of 1646 S. Cincinnati ave, pioneer Oklahoman and widow of one of the first Osage county commisioners. Mrs. Barlow died Monday in a Tulsa hospital.

Born in Greensboro, Ind., she moved with her family to Kansas at an early age. She grew up around Caney, Kans., where she married John W. Barlow. In 1893 the Barlows took part in the Cherokee Strip opening and later settled in Osage county near Pawhuska. Mr. Barlow, who was killed in a bridge construction accident in 1918, was one of the first county commisioners in the Osage area.

For a few years Mrs. Barlow lived at Chanute, Kans. She came to Tulsa in 1945.

Mrs. Barlow was a member of the Methodist church and previously was active in the Rebekah lodge at Pawhuska.

She is survived by three sons, Burel Barlow, of the home; Grover Barlow, Sperry, and Clyde W. Barlow, Bisco, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Huff, San Angelo, Tex., and Mrs. Fern Craighead, Portland, Ore.; 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

The Guardian funeral home is in charge.

An oddity:   Marriage records show: Blaine Co Oklahoma  Burel Barlow, Pawhuska, Oklahoma, age 24 and  May Gardner, Coal Hill, Arkansas age 18 married December 30, 1905   Perhaps Burl and May divorced, and she then married his brother, Grover...however... Burl was only 14 according to his birth year.

William Murphy Barlow, 86, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, in Alexandria, Va. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. The family will have a reception at Greenwood Funeral Home afterward. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of choice. William Murphy Barlow was born to May and Burel Barlow on Dec. 29, 1921, in Osage County, Okla. He attended school in Pawhuska and Stillwater, Okla., before joining the War National Guard, 45th Infantry Division, which mobilized in 1940. He then joined the United States Navy immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Upon completing combat aircrew training in Florida, he was assigned to Patrol Bombing Squadron 20 (VPB-20) and deployed to the Pacific theater, participating in 31 combat patrol bombing missions. On one such mission his aircraft sustained major damage from anti-aircraft fire. Though the aircraft was forced to crash land, his actions enabled the aircraft's safe return to its base at Leyte Bay, Philippines. Mr. Barlow earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and three U.S. Air Medals for his service.

Mr. Barlow married Fannie Grace Rector on Jan. 15, 1947, and together they made Fort Worth their home. He began his aeronautical career at Consolidated Vultee, later General Dynamics. In addition, Mr. Barlow founded a successful residential real estate business in Fort Worth and remained active in it for over 50 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ridglea Country Club, Petroleum Club, Benbrook American Legion Post 297 (charter member), Ridglea Masonic Lodge 1341, Moslah Shrine Center Legion of Honor, Fort Worth Airpower Council, Kiwanis and the VFW. Mr. Barlow was also known for his love of a good barbecue sandwich, and could often be found enjoying one at his preferred barbecue eateries, Railhead or Angelo's.
Survivors: Children, William Burel Barlow, Mary Frances Barlow Varner of Alexandria, Va.; and grandchildren, William S. Barlow, Alexandra S. Barlow and Roxanne S. Barlow, all of San Antonio.

DELMAR J. BARLOW Delmar Jesse Barlow, 59, of 4621 Byers, a Fort Worth resident 24 years, died Friday night in a hospital. He was a retired service station operator. Barlow was a member of the Odd Fellows.

Surviving are his wife, his mother, Mrs. Maggie Hardin; a brother, Newell Barlow, and two half sisters, all of Sacramento, California.

Christian Science funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Harvison and Cole Chapel.  Graveside services under the direction of the IOOF will be held in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Titus Barlow and Miss Edith T. King were married in this city January 19, 1902, at the residence of Rev. Jerry Hubbard, the officiating minister. The groom is the son of J.B. Barlow, one of the best known settlers in the Ottawa neighborhood and the bride is the daughter of Joseph King, another of the old settlers. After the ceremony, Uncle Jerry and Mrs. Hubbard accompanied the couple to the home of the bride's parents and participated in the pleasures of the wedding supper. Uncle Jerry tells us that he had been engaged to marry the parents of the bride but was prevented getting to the place in time for the marriage ceremony by high water in a river that he had to cross. Another minister was procured to perform the ceremony. but in the meantime the water had subsided enough for him to cross and he got to the house in time for the wedding feast. Fact is Uncle Jerry has never been known to be too late for a feast. On that occasion, his persistence in reaching the happy scene at the earliest hour possible was rewarded by another couple invoking his services to tie the knot of matrimony. The Herald extends congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Titus Barlow.

Several census were made for the Quapaw Indian Agency throughout 1910 and 1935, some showed Edith as 1/8 Indian and her children as 1/16.

LEWIS H. BARLOW, 91, retired chief emeritus of the Ottawa Indian tribe of Oklahoma, died Saturday. He was 91.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Miami, under the direction Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home.
Barlow was the grandson of Joseph Badger King, the first Ottawa chief after the tribe was moved to Indian Territory in 1867. He went to school at the Oklahoma School of Mines, which later became Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami. He later received an honorary doctorate from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, and served as a trustee of that university since 1974.
Barlow served as executive secretary of the intertribal council of Ottawa County and was active in many civic organizations including the Ottawa County Historical Society and the Evening Lyons Club. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Miami.
Survivors include a son, WILLIAM JOSEPH BARLOW of Richardson, Texas; a daughter, GENEVIEVE PAT ZEDLITZ of Dallas; a sister, IRENE SCRIVENER of Cudahy, Calif.; a brother, AMOS BARLOW of Boulder, Colorado; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for E. H. Barlow, 68, who passed away at his home in Scipio yesterday, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lone Grove School House. Burial will be in Lone Grove Cemetery. Mr. Barlow was born in Bonneville, Ark., Aug. 7, 1879. He had been a resident of Pittsburg County for many years.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Collier of McAlester and Mrs. Juanita Clifton of Scipio; five sons, J. C. Chester Ray "Tude" Barlow, 89, of Indianola, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at St. Frances Hospital in Tulsa. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel in McAlester, with the Rev. Artie Joe Hearod officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born on Jan. 16, 1915, in Scipio, he was the son of Ernest and Louella (Tomlin) Barlow. He grew up and lived in the Scipio area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for several years at Oklahoma State Penitentiary as a dog trainer, then as a salesman for Field Trial Dog Food. He was an avid wolf hunter and had trained and shown dogs since childhood. He hosted many hunts and won several first place ribbons at other shows. His favorite show was one attended by then Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton. He attended Canadian Shores Freewill Baptist Church. He had previously attended Lone Grove and New Hope Freewill Baptist Churches.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, including, J.B. Barlow, Jerry Barlow, Rocky Barlow, Lilah Rodgers, and Odessa Zummer, and close friends and hunting buddies.

33.  EARLY OSCAR4 BARLOW (ALFRED G3, ALFRED HIRTON2, JOHN1) was born on February 26, 1884 in Booneville, Logan Co Arkansas and died on February 18, 1958 in Indianola, Pittsburg Co Oklahoma.

He married 1. ELIZABETH 'LIZZIE PITTS', September 11, 1905.  She was born in 1882.

He married 2. MARY MAGDALENE BESS, daughter of John Bess and Elizabeth Cathey. She was born March 14, 1901 in Canadian, Oklahoma, and died September 23, 1952 in McAlester, Pittsburg Co Oklahoma

Funeral service for Early Oscar Barlow, 73, well-known pioneer resident of Indianola, who died Tuesday at a local hospital following a lingering illness, will be held Thursday Feb. 20, at 2:30 p.m. at Indianola Baptist Church. Rev. Hershel Blair will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Indianola Cemetery under the direction of the Smith-Humphrey Funeral Home.

Barlow who was a retired farmer, was born at Booneville, Ark., Feb. 26, 1884, moved to Indianola with his parents in 1889, and has made his home there for the past 69 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Barlow is survived by 49 direct descendents.

Young and Miss Judy Barlow of Okmulgee; two brothers, Guy Barlow, Arpelar and Archie Barlow, McAlester; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Shaffer, Hanna; 28 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Martha Carmon, 80, of Indianola who died Thursday in a local nursing home, were scheduled today at 2 p.m. at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Indianola with Rev. Bill McClellan officiating. Interment will be in Indianola Cemetery.

Born July 1, 1906 in Indianola, she lived all her life in that area. She and T. C. Carmon were married Nov. 2, 1929 in Ft. Smith, Ark. She was a housewife and a charter member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church and Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, T. C. of the home; a daughter Wilma Burns of Tecumseh; five granddaughters, a grandson, four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Nell Tomes of Topeka, Kan., Lola Gann and Sue Young both of McAlester and Judy Cochran of Okmulgee; five brothers, Gene Barlow of Enid, Buddy Barlow of Hartshorne, Cletis Barlow of Pigett, Ark, Jeauvon Barlow of McAlester and Dean Barlow of Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard "Pete" Barlow and Bill "Nub" Barlow.

Acie William Barlow, 60, Indianola farmer and pioneer state resident died yesterday at Durant after a short illness. Barlow was born in Stigler, Sept 27, 1889 and moved to the Indianola area 46 years ago. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cora Jane Barlow, 73-year-old longtime area resident died early today at her home at 306 West Delaware. Born in Booneville, Ark., Jan. 17, 1889, she came to Oklahoma in 1903 settling in Pittsburg County. She moved to McAlester to her present address 18 years ago, and was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Miss Belva Barlow, of the home; Mrs. Cecil Lewis, Mrs. Beatrice Helms, Mrs. Veonna Martin all of McAlester; two sons, Hayden and Haskell Barlow both of McAlester; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rhodes, Lebanon, Okla., and Mrs. Emmitt Doshier, Booneville, Ark.; one brother, Kin Ingram, Magazine, Ark,; one half-sister, Mrs. Joe Conway, Riverbank, Calif.; three half-brothers, Thurman Ingram and L.V. Belva Jane Barlow of 614 West Harrison died Friday. She was 65. She was born Oct. 14, 1909 at Indianola and spent her life in this area. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Cecile J. (Lewis) Whaley, 89, of McAlester died Monday, Jan 21, 2002, at a local Nursing Center.

Born Dec. 4, 1912 in Indianola, she was the daughter of William Acie and Cora Jane Ingram Barlow. She attended school in Indianola and married Mike Lewis in November 1929. She worked as a nurse at the McAlester General Hospital for 20 years and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and the Veteran's of Foriegn Wars Post No. 1098 Auxiliary. After the death of her husband in 1963, she then married Gene Whaley in 1976 and he also preceded her in death in 1985. She always enjoyed life and had an outgoing personality and was always laughing and happy. She loved to dance and spend time with her family.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Truman E. and Sue Lewis, Wichita Falls, Texas and Michael K. and Pauline Lewis of Bixby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Theda J. and Bill DiSilvestro and Norma J. Epps all of McAlester. Also two sisters and a brother-in-law, Veonna and J. B. Darnell and Bea Helms all of McAlester; eight grandchildren, Steven Lewis, Michael J. Haskell Barlow, 58, resident of this area all his life, died Thursday in a McAlester Hospital. He retired from work at the U.S. Naval Ammunition depot in 1948.

Roy D. Barlow, a resident of Maypearl, died at 8:30 a.m. today in a Houston hospital. He was 75.  Mr. Barlow was a retired railroad man.

Survivors include two sons, Albert Barlow of Maypearl and Harold Barlow of Ft. Worth; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral Rites for Roy D. Barlow Held at Maypearl

Final rites for Roy D. Barlow were held this morning at the Maypearl Methodist Church with Reverend J.W. Sellers officiating. Burial was in the Auburn Cemebery under the direction of the Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home.

Music was presented by the Methodist Church choir with the selection being "When They Ring Those Golden Bells."

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Miss Anna Mae Barlow, 50, of 110 Nursery Land will be buried in Mount Olivet after requiem mass at 10 a.m., Monday, in St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Rosary will be said at 7:30 pm Sunday in Shannon Memorial Chapel.

Miss Barlow was a native of Fort Worth and a Catholic.

Survivors include her father Roy E. Barlow of Corpus Christi, and two brothers, Harold of Fort Worth and Albert Barlow of Maypearl.

Harley T. 'KEG' BARLOW, Lt. Col. USAF Retired, age 75, of North Little Rock passed away Saturday, Jan 11, 1997. He was born on April 18, 1921, in Booneville, Arkansas to H. Leo and Vera Wellsford Barlow.

He was preceded in death by his son, Larry.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock, National Education Association, Retired Officers Asssociation, & the Order of Daedalians, P-38 National Association, lifetime member Fighter 43-D Pilot Graduating Class, 1rst Fighter Group 94th TAC Fighter Squadron, and American Meteoroligist Society.

He entered Arkansas State Teachers College in 1939. At the time of Pearl Harbor, he was a member of the 153rd infantry (Arkansas National Guard). After mobilization, his unit was assigned to Alaska. He graduated from flying school (Class 43-D), Luke Field. His proudest moments were flying with the 1rst Fighter Group, 94th TAC Fighter Squadron, Eddie Rickenbacker Squadron (Hat and Ring) at Foggia, Italy, in 1944, where he flew the Lockheed P-38J Lightening "The Hog Caller". Squadron leader of the Ploesti Oil Field Raid. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, 11 Air Medals, Air Force Commendation Medal, and various other medals.

After WWII, he graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College with a bachelor of science in 1954. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a master of science, majoring in meteorology.

He served as a commander of the Air Force Base Weather Stations at Seymour Johnson, North Carolina, and Thule Air Base, Greenland. He retired in 1965 from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base after serving 26 years.

He received his teachers certificate from UCA, taught math at Lakewood Junior High, retiring in 1983.

Survivors are his wife, Katherine Funk Barlow, daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Mitchell Wood of Sherwood, son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Desiree Barlow of Vilonia, four grandchildren, Dustin, Amber, Ryan and Colby.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel with Rev. Don Nolley and Rev. Larry Kelso officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Methodist Church, North Little Rock.

Former meteorologist, teacher dies at 75

Harley T. 'Keg' Barlow led a distinguished adult life, first as a decorated World War II fighter pilot, then as an Air Force meteorologist and then as a poplular math teacher at Lakewood Junior High.

But to family, friends, and neighbors, he may well be remembered best as "the bicycle man."

His bike, says his wife, Katherine, was "a plain old 1950's Schwinn. It had a little radio on the front. And he would ride for miles and miles, listening."

Even in his later years, he thought nothing of riding from here to Lonoke and back, but odomoter records over the years showed he crisscrossed an incredible 10,000 miles between 1858 and 1962, and another 10,000 each between 1962-1966, 1972-1976, and 1979-1982.

Mr. Barlow died Saturday, Jan 11, of natural causes at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was 75.

When he wasn't peddling his own wheels, he loved to take care of his 1968 gold Mustang, family members said.

"That car was his pride and joy," his wife said.

And together they loved to dance, especilly to Big-Band music, she said.

"He loved to dance the jitterbug. Man, could he jitterbug."

The youngest of two sons of a gas company manager, Mr. Barlow grew up in Booneville, Ark.

In the fall of 1939, he enrolled at Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, joined the Arkansas National Guard and soon after Pearl Harbor found himself stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington.

He entered pilots school in 1942 in Arizona and was sent overseas after graduation to fly P-38's in Africa and Italy. In 1944, as a member of the Eddie Rickenbacker Squadron, he led the raid on the Ploesti oil fields in Italy. For his service, Mr. Barlow was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Force Commendation Medal, among others.

Eventually he would return to Arkansas State Teachers College, graduating in 1953 and then going on for a master's degree in meteorology from the University of Chicago.

It was in August, 1952, at a company picnic with a friend who worked for the Arkansas Inspection and Rating Bureau, that he met his future wife Katherine Funk. The couple married the following May.

During the late 1950's and the early 1960's, Mr. Barlow, still in the Air Force, served as commander of the weather stations at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland, and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina.

He retired from the Air Force in June, 1965, moved his family to North Little Rock, and went back to what was then UCA for his teaching certificate.

He was soon teaching math at Lakewood Junior High School.

"He loved teaching. He was outgoing and very educated and very intelligent, so teaching was perfect," said his wife.

He retired from Lakewood in the spring of 1983, content to live out his remaining years riding his bike, tending to his car, and spending time with his family, his wife said.

"He never lost his spirit or his pleasure in his various hobbies," she said.

Mr. Barlow was a member of the First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lynn Wood of Sherwood; a son, Tom Barlow of Vilonia; and four grandchildren, Dustin, Amber, Ryan, and Colby.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 13, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel with the Revs. Don Noiley and Larry Kelso officiating.

He was buried in Pinecrest Cemetery with full military honors.

The family asks that memorials be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock.

Born Feb. 3, 1906 in Scipio, he was the son of Ernest H. and Louella Tomlin Barlow. He married Ida Lee Medley in Scipio on March 26, 1926 and she preceded him in death in 1985. He lived all his life in Pittsburg County, where he was a farmer and rancher, and worked on construction at the United States Army Ammunition Depot for two years. He was a state highway employee for six years.

Survivors include four sons and daughtes-in-law, J. B. and Faye Barlow of Scipio, Ronnie and Joyce Barlow, Mineola, Texas, Jerry and Linda Barlow of Crowder, and Larry Barlow, Lewisville, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, LaVoyce and Jayell Gross, Honey Grove, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Dot Barlow of McAlester. Also 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Geanie Murray.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jack Barlow; two sisters, Lorene Collier and Juanita Clifton; and three brothers, Homer Barlow, Ernest Barlow and Casey Barlow.

Born March 28, 1927 in Scipio, he was the son of Joe and Ida Lee Medley Barlow. He graduated from Indianola High School and attended Southeastern State University in Durant for two years. He served in the U. S. Army in the 9th Infantry Division during World War II and married Dot White on Feb. 13, 1948 in McAlester. He had worked for Gulf Oil Company for a short time before going to work for the M.K. & T. and Union Pacific Railroad where he retired after 39 years as an agent telegrapher. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester, the Harrison-Powers Post No. 79 American Legion, the McAlester Scottish Rite, where he was a 32nd degree mason, and the McAlester Masonic Lodge No. 96.

Elmira "Marty Barlow" Rohe, 90, of McAlester, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Albert Jarrett officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Jan. 15, 1916, in Pittsburg County, she was the daughter of Roby Lee and Myrtle Ollie Lampkins Howell. Her father was a coal miner and a farmer. She was raised on the farm where she began picking cotton at the age of six for her father. The rule was to pick 150 pounds per day before you could play. She started her schooling in a small two-room school house in the country.

She married Casey Barlow and lived in Scipio where they raised their children. She worked as the postmistress of the local post office until she retired. Her husband preceded her in death.

She later married Lynn Rohe on Dec. 25, 1979. When he retired, they moved to McAlester where they made their home. Her husband was active in the Bedouin Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite and other organizations where they attended numerous events and parades. The couple often traveled and enjoyed their life. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2003.

She attended the fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester and was a member of the Harrison-Powers American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 79. She enjoyed dolls and had recently loaned her collection to the McAlester Building Foundation Historical Museum where they are on display for all to enjoy.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Casey and Amin Hamghalam, Dallas; a son and daughters-in-law, Rocky and Marla Barlow, of McAlester, and Carolyn Barlow, of Muskogee.
Also, her grandchildren, Sean and Marinel Casey, Keller, Texas, Karen and Todd Waldrip, of Oklahoma City, Kevin Barlow, of McAlester, Dusty and Stephanie Barlow, of Shawnee, and Joshua Cain Barlow, of McAlester.

Mrs. Collier who lived at 348 West Harrison, was born Feb. 28, 1918 in Scipio and lived in this area all her life. She was a nurse in the McAlester hospitals. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janus Earlene, in August of 1945 and by a brother, Homer Barlow, in December of 1976.

Nellie Nevada Mote, 91, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at a Banning, Calif., nursing home, where she had been about three weeks. She was born May 15, 1908 in Pittsburg County, Okla., to Early Oscar and Elizabeth Pitts Barlow. She spent her early life in the Indianola community north of McAlester, Okla., where she attended Nail Rural Grade School. She lived in Manhattan before she moved to Topeka in 1946. She had been employed at Lerner's and Thrifty retail stored in downtown Topeka. She had been a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Media Grotto. She married Andrew J. Mote on Oct. 22, 1922. He died Dec. 18, 1955. She married Larry Tomes in 1959. They were divorced.

Survivors include daughters, Virginia Poland, Topeka and Nadine M. Colt, Banning, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Mote was cremated. No memorial services are scheduled.

Born April 4, 1930, in Indianola, he was the son of E.O. & Maggie (Bess) Barlow. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1949. He worked for Long-Bell Lumber Company from age 17 and retired as district sales manager in 1960. He then owned and operated Southeastern Building Supply in Krebs. He moved to Hartshorne in 1972, and was co-manager of Martin Lumber Co. Since 1979 he had been a broker and co-owner with his wife, Virginia, of Barlow Real Estate in Hartshorne. He was instrumental in the development of Northgate Subdivision in McAlester and the South Park Addition in Hartshorne. He served several terms on the McAlester City Council, one as vice-mayor. He was also a member and past president of the McAlester Optimist Club. He was appointed to the Wildlife Study Commission for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. A bird hunter and fly fisherman, he was active in the Pittsburg County Field Trial Association. He raised and trained a Runner-up National Champion pointer for two years, "Home Again Boy." He later bred and raised Brahman cattle and won several state and national championships. He served 10 years as a board member of the American Brahman Breeders Association. He was an all around outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Barlow of the home; two sons, Mike Barlow and wife Brenda, of Choctaw, and Chad Barlow and Kathy Skidmore, of McAlester; two daughters, Cindy Wilson and husband Rick, of Tulsa, and Leslie Chandler and husband Paul, of Meeker; seven grandchildren, Mandy Barlow of Choctaw, Nikki Hudson and husband Trevor, of Choctaw, Jeff Wilson and wife Amy, of Oklahoma City, Ben Barlow of Heavener, Kimberly Coleman and husband Brandon, of Fort Smith, Ark., Rachel Chandler of Meeker, Sara Chandler of Meeker; three great-grandsons; Shelby and Justice Barlow, of Choctaw, Trey Michael Hudson, of Choctaw; two brothers, Cletus Barlow and wife Peggy, of Piggott, Ark., Dean Barlow and wife Bernice, of Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Judy Cochran of Oklahoma City, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, W.O. "Nub" Barlow, Howard "Pete" Barlow, Gene Barlow, Danny Barlow and John Mouser; one infant brother; four sisters, Martha Carmen, Lola Gann, Nell Mote and Sue Young.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Fugitt, Jim Holly, Eugene Mordecai, Mike Ogle, Bruce Jordan and John Edge. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Michael Harrison, Ken Bass, Don

Andrea Le Barlow, 18, of McAlester, died Thursday. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in McAlester with Rev. Don Russell officiating.

Interment will be at Centerpoint Cemetery in Wilburton under the direction of Chaney's Funeral Home, McAlester.

She was born June 24, 1975 in McAlester and was a 1993 graduate of Savanna High School. On May 1, 1993, she married Marty Barlow in McAlester. She was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church.

Graveside services for Danny J. Barlow of McAlester who died Tuesday at his home were today at 10 a.m. with Rev. Marvin Dunn officiating. Military honors were provided by Harrison-Powers Post No. 79 American Legion. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born March 14, 1935 in Indianola, he was the son of Early Oscar and Mary Magdalene Bess Barlow. He lived in Pittsburg County for most of his life and married Linda Vest on May 20, 1971 in Hugo. He sold life insurance for American National Life in Texas for a short time and then worked for Vest Electric Company as an electrician and retired as an electrical contractor. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and attended the Liberty Eylau Baptist Church in Texarkana, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Danny and Flo Barlow and John Barlow all of McAlester; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Stan Kinslow of Oklahoma City, Wendy and David Vann of Tinker Air Force Base, and Brenda and Randall Patterson of McAlester. Also four brothers, Eugene Barlow of Enid, Jerald Barlow of Hartshorne, Cletis Barlow, Piggot, Ark., and Dean Barlow of Okmulgee; four sisters, Nell Mote, Topeka, Kan, Lola Gann and Sue Young both of McALester and Judy Cochran of Oklahoma City; and 11 grandchildren. Matthew Barlow, four-year-old son of Danny and Beth Barlow of McAlester, died Saturday at McAlester Regional Hospital after 15 months of fighting with neuropithelioma, a rare form of cancer, and undergoing four surgeries with extensive chemotherapy. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Indianola First Baptist Church with Chaplain Danny Cavett of Children's Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City, assisted by Rev. Jarry Riddle, officiating.

Matthew was born Feb. 25, 1978 in McAlester to Danny Michael and Elizabeth Rose Walrath Barlow. He had spent his entire life in the McAlester area. His wish was to fly in an airplane and meet Mickey Mouse. The "Make A Wish Foundation" provided him and his family with his wish. Last August they flew to Florida and spent a week during which time he ate breakfast with Mickey Mouse and friends.

Noble Barlow, 38, died at his home in Del Ray, Calif., Wednesday. He was born Feb. 26, 1911 at Indianola and had lived in the McAlester until a few years ago when he moved to California.

Beatrice Lavada Helms Beatrice Lavada Helms, 78, of McAlester, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Colonial Nursing Home in McAlester. Born Oct. 25, 1925, in Indianola, she was the daughter of William Acie and Cora Jane (Ingram) Barlow. She married Ray Norvelle Helms on June 15, 1943, in Minco.

Survivors include three sons, Eddie Ray Helms and wife, Allie, of McAlester, Terry Lynn Helms, of McAlester, and Jeffery Lee Helms and wife, Cynthia, Oark, Ark. Also, seven grandchildren, Gina Riley, Toni Helms, Clint Helms, Megan Helms, Nikki Helms, Shane Flint and April Butler. Zora Iva Barlow, 89, a homemaker, died Friday at a Waxahachie nursing home.
