My grandmother Mary Barlow Bundren was the daughter-in-law of Mourning Bunch, daughter of James Martin Bunch. Naturally, her nine children were ggrandchildren of James Martin. Six of her children married Hursts and Bunches who were also ggrandchildren of James Martin. My mother wasn't one of them. I guess I avoided being my own 3rd cousin. However, I think my mother is also my distant cousin. In this family the family tree looks more like a bush.

My great-grandmother Virginia Martella "Jennie" (Smith) Bennett was born 24 Feb 1891 in Lee County, VA. Her parents were George W. Smith and Martha (Barlow) Smith.
George W. Smith was born 12 Dec 1856 in Lee County, VA. According to his death certificate, his parents were Elisha Smith and Senla (Hall) Smith.
I don't know anything about Martha (Barlow) Smith's birth or parents, or her marriage to George W. Smith.
The family moved to Oklahoma sometime prior to 1907, because Virginia Smith married my great-grandfather William Isaac Bennett in Oklahoma in that year. Her parents and some siblings were also in Oklahoma then - I don't know if any older siblings might have been left behind in Virginia. In fact, I don't really know when they left Virginia - they might have lived somewhere else in between there and the move to Oklahoma.
I would appreciate any information that you can provide from your records, or suggestions on further research I might pursue regarding these Lee County ancestors.
