PLEASE NOTE    While transcribing these records, I found so many errors, I considered not even posting them, but in the end, decided to use it anyway.    Apparently, even though these records were compiled over 100 years ago ... much of the information comes from early family genealogies, and there are a lot of discrepancies.    You will note that Ailey / Ellie Barlow is consistently married to Laban ... whose dates of birth and death remain the same, as well as the names of their known children, their dates of birth and death, but the surname is changed, being Ferrell, Dunn, Hathaway, Peel, Steptoe, and finally Womack. Deletha Ann Barlow's husband is always William, Sr., .. the son's name Samuel B., death date and place remains the same ... but the surname changes from Cooper, Johnson, Murphy, Speight and finally Valentine.    (In parenthesis, I have added the correct information where known)

Barlow, A.K., (Arthur Knight Barlow) born before 1837 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina.
He married Alvira P. Reed / Read (Elvira) on May 14, 1851 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina

Barlow, A.K., (Arthur Knight Barlow) born before 1820 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina, and died after 1858, probably in Hinds Co Mississippi, to where he moved in 1848.
He married Winifred (Atkinson) in 1831, Edgecombe Co North Carolina. She was born in 1812, and died August 16, 1850.
They had 3 sons, the last one born in Mississippi in July 1850.     One son was named Thadeus. (Thaddeus Batts Barlow)

Barlow, Ailey was born July 08, 1820 in Nash Co North Carolina, and died March 08, 1896 in Wake Co North Carolina (Hepzibah Baptist Church records)
She married Laban Ferrell in Nash Co North Carolina.       Children included Frank and Verdella

Barlow, Arthur K., born before 1837 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina.   He served as a Colonel in the North Carolina Militia, before moving to Mississippi, where he married Alvirah P. Reed (Elvira) in Hinds Co. (He moved to Mississippi in 1848, before the Civil War)

Barlow, D., (David) a very wealthy planter, was born 1812 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina, and died after 1860.
He married Penninah in 1836, Edgecombe Co North Carolina, her birth occurring in 1817.
Known children were: Anna, Louisa, Della, Julius, Lucy, Alice, William and Thadeus Barlow

Barlow, David III, a planter, died 1812, Edgecombe Co North Carolina, leaving minor children, Arthur and David Barlow as wards of Frederick Phillips.    He was the son of David, Jr. and Sarah Barlow

Barlow, David Jr., a planter, son of David Barlow, Sr. and Nancy Proctor, died November 29, 1789 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina.
He married Sarah / Sallie.     Known children include: Lewis, David, Benjamin, Sarah, and Rebecca Barlow

Barlow, Edwin W., born 1835 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina, and died after 1865 in Chesterfield, Edgecombe Co North Carolina, the son of Hines and Mary Barlow.
A soldier in Co I, 30th Inf., Reg., NC, he married in 1857, spouse name unknown.

Barlow, Hilliard, born 1836 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina, and died in the spring of 1845 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina, the son of Stephen Barlow, Sr. and Sallie Berry.
He married Cornelia Hammer in Edgecombe Co North Carolina     Known children: Harlan James, Nathan, Elizabeth and Mary Barlow.    He served in Co A, 47th Inf Reg, NC.

Barlow, Isaac, son of James Barlow, born 1844 in Wilson Co North Carolina, and died August 15, 1862 at Camp Wilson, North Carolina. He served in Co E, 7th Inf, Reg, NC.

Barlow, Lewis, died February 07, 1821 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina, the son of David Barlow, Jr.   He had 2 illegitimate children, William and Louisa, but recognized by him.
He owned land in Livingston Co Kentucky.   (Was enumerated in 1810 and 1820 in Livingstone Co Kentucky)

Barlow, Thadeus B., born 1835 in Edgecombe Co North Carolina to A.K. and Winifred Barlow, and died October 11, 1858 in Hinds Co North Carolina...(Mississippi?), survived by father.

One on Drew Bryan for $125 with interest from 01 January 1821, and one on William Parker and Wilee Bunn for $3600 - and to receive the amount of a judgement which the said Benjamin Barlow, deceased obtained against Jacob and Alexander Sessums for $225; also a note against William Parker for $393.54.

Livingston Co Kentucky 23 January 1821

Dear Sir,

I gain take my pen in hand to inform you we are not in so good health at this time as usual owing to the great colds that are so prevalent in this country, but thanks be to God it is no worse.

Hoping this letter will find you and all yours in good health.

Sir, I now shall enclose in this letter the power of attorney and in the power of attorney, Arthur Knights receipt.

Sir, when you receive this letter, (you know whether the notes contained in Arthur Knights receipt has been collected or not) And if the money is collected, or if it can be collected between this and the spring, and Mr. David Barnes should come to this country, you are requested to send it to me by him.

Sir ... I wish you to know of Mr. William Parker when the money can be had for the note that I have in my hands, and also of Mr. Drewry Bryan when he can have the money ready the note I have against him.

Sir ... I wish you to write to me as soon as you receive this, and let me know concerning the matter. I shall wait until I receive a letter from you before I send on the notes.

I wish you to inform me of the health of your family and family connections as also of my family connections and the neighbors in general.

Sir ... the estate of Benjamin Barlow, deceased, is in very distressing circumstances for the money that is due the estate. The estate is in debt five or six hundred dollars, and unless money can be had, one or more of the Negroes must be sold, and I wish to make every exertion in my power to prevent it, and I desire you would do everything in your power for me.

James Alsobrook and family are in common health at this time. Newsome Barnes and family are enjoying reasonable health, and James Barnes and family also, but the people in general are very much plagued with a disease something like enfluenza though many deaths as yet.
