We believe that the second Thomas is the father of Benjamin, and that the first may be the Thomas shown in this genealogy. Found in Gallatin Co Records: Nov.23, 1818 Court consisting of John Marshall, John G. Daimwood and Andrew Wilkins allowed Thomas Barlow 64, on has having produced legal evidence that he had killed two grown wolves after act passed in 1816. The age 64, would put Thomas birth at about 1744. In 1820, Thomas Barlow, 1830, Benjamin and Jesse, 1840, John, Jesse, James and Benjamin. Jan has determined that Thomas and Benjamin are those listed in the 1810 census of Orange Co NC, however, so has Vicki Roach in her families lineage of Thomas Barlow and Lucinda Hargis. Other than the Benjamin found in Orange Co NC, the rest of those Barlow's following the years, seem to line up quite nicely with Vicki's genealogy. There is a possibility of a relationship between these two families, but to determine which Thomas Barlow is indeed listed in Orange NC, more documentation will be needed.

According to Cora Smith Suermann, 1982: Seven brothers sailed from England together and were among the early settlers of South Carolina. Some of the family served in the Revolutionary War, were in the Ozark hills, admired the area, and hoped to return there. After the war several of the family were on their way to the Ozarks but as they arrived in Bowlesville [Illinois] near the Saline River, many were too sick to carry on, thus they made camp, come to like the area, and decided to stay. These were some of the earliest settlers of that area.

1.	THOMAS1 BARLOW died sometime before 06 March 1837, in Gallatin Co Illinois. The name of Thomas wife is unknown, she is apparently deceased at the time of his death, as she is not mentioned in his article of agreement. If other estate papers exist, they have not yet been found.

The first record that that holds proof that Thomas is the father of the following children comes from an article of agreement, found by Jan McCabe Hall in Gallatin Co Illinois. Transcription as follows:
Articles of Agreement made and entered into the 4th day of March 1837 Between Benjamin Barlow, Jane Barlow, Mary Kuykendall, & Joyce Barlow, heirs of law of Thomas Barlow, deceased. Witnesses that they severally? agree to each other that they will furnish John Barlow and Ann Barlow younger brother and sister to reside on and cultivate and have the use of the farm on which their father died being the SW 1/2? of Section five, Township Ten South Range Nine East, free of rent untill the youngest one becomes of age she being fourteen years of age on the 6th day of February last. Witnesses our hand and each the date above written.

ii.	JANE BARLOW. She probably did not marry, she was listed as age 45, in the 1850 census of Gallatin Co Illinois
iii.	MARY BARLOW, born c1810. She married and ROBERT KUYKENDALL on 30 October 1832 in Gallatin Co Illinois. They divorced in 1835. One daughter, MARIAH.
3 iv.	JOYCE BARLOW, born c1816
v.	JOHN BARLOW, died 16 or 17 December 1845 in Gallatin Co Illinois. This death date is taken from the doctor bill submitted to the estate of John Barlow, showing his attendance between 24 November - 16 December 1845 "in his last illness" A bill dated 17 December 1845, although partially illegible, I believe to be for something to do with the burial of John Barlow, paid by Benjamin Barlow on 02 April 1846. Another bill dated only December 1845, is for making the coffin of John Barlow He married ELIZABETH FRAZIER on 21 August 1845 in Gallatin Co Illinois (Vol M Bk 1 pg 272) She is most likely a sister to Matthew Frazier who married Joyce Barlow. Note from Susan: A source of confusion has been the estate papers of John Barlow, showing the same heirs as Thomas Barlow, with the exception of "The widow, Elizabeth Barlow" After thoroughly studying these papers, I have determined that John is the son of Thomas Barlow, as mentioned in the original article of agreement, and Elizabeth his wife. Finding that John had married to Elizabeth Frazier on 21 August 1845, Gallatin Co Illinois, and died in December of that same year, not having any heirs of his own, his estate was being divided between his wife, and his siblings. The estate probate papers list: Benjamin Barlow, administrator .... The widow, Elizabeth Barlow, Jane Barlow, Mary Kuykendall, Joyce Frazier, Ann Barlow and Benjamin Barlow, heirs at law of John Barlow, deceased. He married SARAH ANN BARLOW on 28 April 1836 in Gallatin Co Illinois, by S. Seaton, Justice of the Peace. The daughter of BENJAMIN BARLOW and SARAH ANN, she was born 21 August 1817 in Tennessee. Benjamin and Sarah are buried in Cubelo Cemetery, Bowlesville Township, Gallatin Co Illinois, death dates unknown

Children of JOYCE BARLOW and JOHN MARTIN are: Based on the date of marriage, I will assume Martha, William, Thomas, Susan and John are from a previous marriage of John. Thomas G. Martin and wife, Martha are also living next door to Samuel Brinkley in 1880. (In 1870, I believe the Thomas Martin, age 23 living with Alfred Barlow is the same) Henry Martin, probably the same as William H., age 26, is living with Benjamin and Sarah Barlow in 1870 -- I just realized that this is probably the same William Henry Harrison Martin who married Sarah Minerva Barlow, and then Almar Harris in 1884.
iv.	GEORGE W.3 MARTIN
v.	ALFRED B. MARTIN, perhaps the same as AARON STOUT In 1880 Gallatin Co Illinois, he is age 20, and married to NANCY J., age 15. They live next door to Samuel Brinkley.

5.	MARY E.3 BARLOW (BENJAMIN2, THOMAS1) was born c1843 in Bowlesville Twp., Gallatin Co Illinois. She married BENJAMIN FRANKLIN 'FRANK' HARRIS 10 September 1861 in Gallatin Co Illinois. (Bk A pg 158) I was unable to locate them in an 1870 census. They may both be deceased by 1880, at which time their children are living in her parents home.

Barbara did not have children, but was 6 months pregnant at the time of her death.

ii.	CORA E. FISHER, born April 1895 in Union Co Kentucky. She is married and widowed by 1920, at which time she is living in her parents home with children, LOUIS and MANDY. I believe the surname is DAVIS, but am not positive. I assume they are both her children, but they have different birthplaces of parents, and there is a 14 year difference in their ages. Kentucky birth records shows a Cora Fisher to have had a child, Amandy E. Davis on 01 June 1918 in Union Co Kentucky. No fathers name shown
iii.	FRANK A. FISHER, born April 1899 in Union Co Kentucky. He married IDA MAE and had at least one child: SAMUEL F. FISHER

THOMAS HARVEY4 BARLOW, (THOMAS3, BENJAMIN2, THOMAS1), was born 11 April 1867 in Gallatin Co Illinois, and died 28 January 1949 in Gallatin Co Illinois He married CATHERINE 'KATE' SPITZNER 25 July 1889 in Bowlesville Twp., Gallatin Co Illinois. The daughter of FREDERIC SPITZNER and SUAANA STILLBOWER, she was born 15 September 1869 in Cisney, Indiana, and died 07 August 1951 in Equality, Gallatin Co Illinois. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Equality, Gallatin Co Illinois

She was born c1882 in Shawneetown, Gallatin Co Illinois He married 2) BESSIE RANDALL 21 November 1923 in the residence of Frank Randall, married by George Kanady, J.P., witnessed by Aid Randall and Etta Brisau. Bessie. The daughter of FRANK RANDALL and EFFIE ENDICOTT, she was born c1901 in Missouri.
