The following document has very light patches on the microfilm and won’t print well. We printed a copy and then filled in from the microfilm itself. The top part of the pages lists parcels of land that belonged to John.

Know ye, that we, having full faith in your prudence and competency, have appointed you Commissioners, and by these presence do authorize you, at such time and place as you may appoint, to call before you and examine A.J. Ray and Dr. M.G. Haggman, as Witnesses in a case pending in our Probate Court of Lowndes County, wherein Solomon Adams is plantiff in application to sell land and Charles Adams, John Adams, and James are defendants.

On oath to be, by you administered upon Interrogatories annexed to this Commission, to take and certify the Deposition of the Witness, and return the same to our said Court, with all convenient speed, under your hand and seal.

Witness: James W. ___________Judge of said Court, at Office this 13th day of November A.D. eighteen hundred and sixty-six.

To the Honorable Judge of Probate of said County-

The undersigned would respectfully show that he has been (duly) appointed Administrator, de _______, with the will ____of John Adams, late of this county deceased.-- would further show, that said decedent executed his last will and testament, which has been admitted to probate and record, in your Honorable Court. The 12th item of said will provides that after the death of Polly Adams, the widow and relict of said testator and the payment of all his just debts, that balance of his property both real and personal shall be sold for division among all his lawful heirs.

Further show that Mrs. Polly Adams has departed this life -- and therefore under the provisions of his will, he desires to sell said property for division among all the heirs and legatees of said estate. The real and personal property as follows ...... the lawn and plantation on which said decedent resides in his lifetime, designated as follows:

The S1/2 of sec 31.-the W 1/2 of of NE 1/10 31.
The W 1/2 of NW 1/4 and SE 1/2 of NW 1/2 (rest of description hard to read) and the following named slaves
--viz

Molly, Moise, (these are of little or no value) Lewis, Sally, Alnim(?), Little Lewis, Andeman, Lane, Harriett, Louisa, Jinsy, Randal, Aggy, and Allen--together with the perishable property.

The names of the heirs:

Solomon Adams, deceased, and his children names not known, Lavinia Adams, wife died of Jacob Adams, Stephen Adams, Vincent Adams deceased, his children, Sarah Hawkins deceased, wife of William Hawkins, Henry Adams, Rebecca Jones, wife of James Jones, Eliza Ann Norris, wife of Nelson B. Norris, Repsy Ann Simmons deceased, wife of A.M. Simmons, and Martha Ann Walker, wife of J.J. Walker.

The undersigned would therefore pray for an order to see all of said property for division as ____ and as in duty bound will _____.
