Marriage Book C-80, by Justice of Inf. Court, John Fullwood
Eliza died between
1840 and 1845.
Sheriff Ira Stanley left in October 1826, a service
copy of a lawsuit [Francis Ross vs. Thomas Green] at the residence of
Thomas Barlow. According to James
Barlow's Bible Thomas Green married Catharine Barlow, probably
a daughter of John and Jane 'Anderson' Barlow.

3 males under five - probably Merrett, George and John
2 males 10-14 - probably Charles and Charlas, sons of John Barlow
2 males 20-29 were probably Thomas [Sr.] and his half-nephew, Thomas Barlow,
which may account for the below mention of Thomas Barlow Sr.
1 female 5-9 - probably Narcissa/Narcissus
1 female 20-29 - undoubtedly Eliza 'Caldwell' Barlow.
Thomas Barlow Sr., Administrator
of the Estate of Stephen Folsom, deceased, sold on March 16, 1831 Laurens
Co land at the Duplin, Georgia Courthouse to the highest bidder, Kinchen
Phillips; witnessed by James Barlow, JP.
Laurens Co DR J-76 Thomas' involvement with the Folsom
family is not understood, but the court awarded him an extra 2.5%, in
addition to 5%, for his extra trouble with uncollectible notes, etc.
Inf. Court Minutes 1822-33, p 262
Mary Barlow,
mother of Thomas, was probably not a Folsom - for reasons following:
Genealogy of the Folsom Family, pp 189, 321, FHL 1,036,669
item 14: Stephen Folsom born October 10, 1781 in Newmarket New Hampshire,
and died January 15, 1829 in Laurens Co Georgia, son of Benjamin Folsom
born c1751 Newmarket, New Hampshire, and died February 21, 1790 Newburyport,
Massachusetts, and Mary Baker, married Sarah, daughter of Oliver
and Lydia Hale. They removed c1819 to near Duplin, Georgia, where he
was a planter and merchant. His sister Mary -1780-1831- married in
1802 Durham, New Hampshire Ballard Pinkham who died in 1854.
Thomas Barlow,
about to move out of Georgia, was ordered in December 1832 by the
Laurens County Court to show cause why he should not be discharged from
his guardianship of John Barlow's orphans; the action apparently brought
by Anderson H. Barlow, a John Barlow heir.

Thomas Barlow of the state of Alabama, bought November
08, 1860, land in Tyler Co Texas. He and his wife Talonfa were residents
of Lowndes Co Alabama, at the time December 22, 1860 of his land sale
in Caddo Parish Louisiana. Tyler Co Deed Record H-169 and
Caddo Parish Deed Book N-80.
Thomas Barlow
must have been a wealthy man to have purchased so much land [LA & TX] for
his children while he remained in Lowndes Co Alabama. It is not known if he
died in Alabama or Texas, but Merritt S. Barlow filed December 21, 1866, in
Tyler Co Texas, probate case number twelve as the administrator of Thomas Barlow,
deceased, and sold February 09, 1867, estate property of Thomas Barlow at his
Tyler Co house.
I was unable to locate Talfonfa / Ann in the 1870 census.
Children of Thomas Barlow and Eliza Caldwell were apparently: |

This census also located, ten families distant from
M.S. Barlow, the family of Charles Barlow, born c1822 Georgia and the
family of S.D. [Samuel David] Caldwell, cousin to Merrett Barlow, located
four families distant from M.S. Barlow.
Merrett Barlow may have been
in Tyler Co Texas, by the time his father, Thomas Barlow, purchased
on November 08, 1860 land there, a wide property that stretched from
the Neches River on the east, to Beech Creek on the west. This
1,469 acre purchase, for $4,474, from the Andrew F. Smyth headright
- November 24, 1841, Patent No. 590, excluded three acres sold to one
James F. Walker off of the South West corner and four acres sold to one
Jesse F. Walker where he now lives including his houses & Spring.
Tyler Co Deed Record H-169
This three acre parcel adjoined
the northwest corner of the 320 acre James F. Walker Survey. James
F. Walker's daughter, Frances Ella, later married Merrett's son, B.B.
'Tang' Barlow.
Merrett Barlow had definitely relocated to Tyler County
when he enlisted January 14, 1863, for three months, as a Texas State
Trooper in Co. E, 2nd Brigade, at Concord, Texas. He was a private
under Captain A.A. Aden, Stationed at Camp Gentry, Concord, Texas. Geo.
W. Van Vleck, B.G., inspector and mustering off. R & F 68. Merrett
was detailed for artillery at Sabine Pass September 17, 1863 in Captain
John Wheat's Company, 1 Reg't Inf., Texas State Troops and gave on January
29, 1864, his age as 37.
M.S. Barlow sold on February 09, 1867, at his
Tyler Co house, as administrator on the estate of Thomas Barlow, property
for cash totaling $200.40. Tyler Co. Probate Records

**Who is Goolsby? >> Found in marriage records: Jennie Barlow married Dock / Dack Goolsbee on 09 January 1880 in Tyler Co Texas)
Thus, it appears that Sallie is the daughter of Merrit and Nancy, seeing
that her mothers birth was in Alabama, while the other children's mother
was born in Mississippi.
Apparently, Merritt and Nancy C. separated or divorced by 1900, because
on June 13, Nancy is living with her widowed son-in-law, Marlin Crow,
stating she was widowed, while Merritt is living with son Thomas H.
on June 14, stating he was widowed!

Nancy states that she had borned 4 children, 1 living. Since
John R. Barlow states that Sallie died after 1923, I assume she is the
living daughter. I do not know whether Mr. Crow's wife was a step-daughter
of Merritt, or if perhaps Nancy and Merrit had another daughter besides
Sallie whom he married. I suppose that Mr. Crow's wife may
even have been one of Merrit's daughters, and a step daughter of Nancy,
although all have been accounted for in this record, except Lizzie.
Children of Merrett S. Barlow and Sarah Ann Denson were
probably:
Mary Elizabeth 'Chick' Barlow, born February
26, 1856 Louisiana and died April 27, 1932, possibly in Kirbyville, Texas
Mary Eliza Barlow married Joseph Lee Lazenby, b 23 Oct 1848 in AL and d 5 Sept 1938 in Kirbyville, Jasper Co, TX.
Their children were:
Sarah Frances (Fannie) b. 10 July 1875 in Tyler Co. TX Fannie married James Hignett on 1 Sept 1907. She died in April 1961 in Jasper Co, TX.
Ella Cleona b. 1 March 1877 in Tyler Co, TX Ella married John A. Lewis on 13 March 1907. She died on 19 June 1947 in Jasper Co, TX.
Lottie Lazenby b. 23 Sept 1880 in Tyler Co, TX Lottie married Dr. U. B. Ogden on 10 Jan 1900. She died on 26 Nov 1936 in Victoria, TX.
Charles Spurgeon b. 20 Nov 1883 in Tyler Co, TX Charles married Fannie Ogden (a brother to U.B.) on 3 Oct 1909. He died in 1972 in Jasper Co, Tx. For years, he was the only dentist in Kirbyville, Tx.
Jesse Benjamin b. 15 Sept 1887 in Tyler Co, TX Jesse Benjamin married Artie West on 15 May 1920. He died on 14 Oct 1972. Jesse Benjamin had two children: Cecil Lee Lazenby b. 8 August 1922 Mary Wyndell Lazenby b. 3 May 1925 . She died 11 Feb 2001 Mary Wyndell married Jack Holmes on 27 April 1945. They had three children. Dinah Lee Holmes, Velma Jack Holmes, Patricia Ann Holmes
Mable Lazenby b. 1 Oct 1892 in Tyler Co, TX Mabel Lazenby never married. She died on 19 Sept 1976 in Texas. For years, she was a hairdresser in Houston, Tx.
Thomas Bunyan Barlow, born August 30, 1857 Louisiana and died
October 06, 1863, burial in Town Bluff Cemetery, Tyler Co Texas.
Jasper Barlow, born c1858 Louisiana and died before 1870
Benjamin Beauregard 'Tang' Barlow, born February
08, 1861 Louisiana or Texas and died April 06, 1930 in Tyler Co Texas, burial
in Town Bluff Cemetery, Tyler Co Texas
Benjamin is listed in the census of 1930, enumerated a few weeks after his death, so this death date doesn't seem to work for him. Another Tyler Texas death record shows a Ben Barlow dying March 18, 1945 that is more likely him. SEH Ordering a copy of the death certificate should clear this up.
He married Frances Ella "Frankie" Walker, October
29, 1890 Tyler Co Texas. Frankie was the
daughter of James Franklin Walker and Nancy Howard, born July 20, 1864 and
died May 06, 1953, in Spurger Texas, burial in Town Bluff Cemetery, Tyler Co
Texas.

Narcissa/Narcissus P. Barlow3
born c 1826, died July 13, 1890, Caddo Parish Louisiana
She married John R.R. Harrison,
MD on July 03, 1845,
Lowndes Co Alabama MR 1-475 The son of Willoughby and Elizabeth
'Rieve Harrison, he was born March 26, 1824 in Fairfield District South
Carolina.
Biographical and Historical
Memoirs of Northwest Louisiana, 1890
Dr. John R. R. Harrison is one of the oldest
settlers of Caddo Parish, Louisiana, having been a resident of
this place since 1846. He
was born in Fairfield District, South Carolina, March 26, 1824,
his parents Willoughby and Elizabeth 'Rieve' Harrison, being also
born there, the former dying in Lowndes Co, Alabama, when the subject
of this sketch was four years of age.
He had been a soldier in the War of 1812 and had moved from South
Carolina to Alabama shortly after his marriage. His father, Willoughby
Harrison, was a South Carolinian, and was a Revolutionary soldier,
taking part in many battles. In the State of Alabama, Dr. John
R.R. Harrison grew to manhood, but since 1846, as above stated,
he has been a resident of Caddo Parish.
He was a student of medicine under Dr. John Hall, in Alabama, and
with some additional study after coming to Louisiana, he, in
1854, graduated from the University of New Orleans, and has since
practiced in Caddo Parish, nearly half a century, his practice extending
over a very large area. He has made a special study of the eye,
and during his practice has effected some miraculous cures, a number
of his patients being pronounced incurable by New Orleans specialists
and the physicians of Shreveport. He has been a very successful
financier, and has become the owner of 3,940 acres of fine land,
all in Ward 2, and has 600 acres under cultivation.
He was married July 04, 1845, to Miss Narcissus Barlow, whose father,
Thomas Barlow, was a Georgian, moving afterward to Alabama. She
was born in Georgia, but was reared in Alabama, and died July 13,
1890, having been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church from
girlhood. She became the mother of one son, who died during
the war, when sixteen years of age.
Dr. Harrison is a member of, and has been deacon in the Missionary
Baptist Church, and socially is a Royal Arch Mason, which order he
joined in Alabama, prior to coming to Louisiana. He is a member
of the Farmers' Alliance, and is a Democrat, politically.
During the late war he was detailed to practice medicine in this
parish. |

Record Natchitoches Parish, October 01, 1852 Land
Record Natchitoches Parish, September 15, 1854
Children of George and Mary, probably all born in Natchitoches
Parish Louisiana, are:
Mary Amelia
Barlow, born November
07, 1831 and died 19 April 19, 1908 in Tilden, Texas (source: Tom
Donalson)
She married John Teal.
C.H. Teal, Grant Parish, Louisiana (son
of Mary and John)
Among the enterprising business houses of this town,
whose operations are worthy of record in a work of this
kind, is that of Mr. C.H. Teal, who is classed among
the first class merchants of Colfax. He was born in Natchitoches
Parish, Louisiana, in 1851, and his parents, John and
Amelia Barlow Teal, were natives of Louisiana.
Their paternal ancestors emigrated to Louisiana from
Tennessee at an early day, probably about 1828, and located
in Natchitoches Parish. The paternal grandfather located
there about the same time and owned the Tessier place
in 1850 as it now stands. He followed planting up to
1860, when he sold out and engaged in merchandising which
he carried on until his death.
John Teal, father of our subject, emigrated to Texas
in 1855, selling his plantation and slaves, and moved
to Refugio County, Texas, where he bought wild land.
He has since been engaged in the stock business, and
still resides there, being considered one of the big
stock men of the Lone Star State.
To his marriage have been born nine children, eight
of whom are living at the present time. The first death
that occurred in the Teal family was in 1885, when John
H., son of C.H. Teal, received his final summons.
The family then numbered over forty persons.
C.H. Teal, the eldest of the nine children born to his
parents, was principally reared in Texas, and educated
in the common schools of that State.
The portion of the State they were then living in was
for the most part prairie land, and neighbors were few
and far between. In 1875, C. H. Teal located in Grant
Parish, engaged in planting, & also established a
stock depot on Lillie Bend plantation, which he carried
on in connection with planting until 1880. He then moved
to Colfax and became sheriff of Grant Parish, under the
new constitution, holding the position for four years.
At that time there was some feeling among the parishes
forming that district, as to which parish was entitled
to the nomination. Mr. Teal consented to be put up by
(his) Grant Parish in the contest, all delegates having
withdrawn from the convention, and each parish run its
own favorite son.
He was then put up for the Senate, but was defeated
by thirty six votes.
He has been in the mercantile business since 1880 and
has an extensive and lucrative trade. He is also the
owner of 350 acres of alluvial land on Red River, adjacent
to the town of Colfax, and has 1,000 acres of fine piney.
He is now engaged in stock farming and has a fine pasture.
He started the hay enterprise in Grant Parish, which
he finds very lucrative. In fact Mr. Teal is one of the
leading men of this section of the State, and is identified
with all its public enterprises.
He was married in 1875 to Miss Cora McLaCour, by whom
he has two daughters:
Mary and Louise
C.H. Teal is a member of the Masonic fraternity, having
joined that organization in Rockport Tx

and John A. Barlow, deputy clerk. In

deputy, who has been in the clerk's office as deputy

Simmons was chosen president, and he with F. Jennings,

I was unable to locate him in an 1870 census.
Or is this him? Virginia believes it is.
Mr. John Barlow 1827 - 1862
The Alabama Baptist 20 November 1862
Many a heart has been made sad, and many of the noble sons
of the South have passed from time to eternity since the commencement
of the present war; but few purer or better men have died than
the subject of this brief notice, Mr. John BARLOW, son of Deacon
Thomas Barlow, of Lowndes county, Ala.
He was born December 3rd, 1827, and died at Charlottsville,
Virginia, July 17th, 1862. In early youth he embraced religion
and became a member of the Baptist Church, and ever adorned
the profession he had made - prompt to all the duties of the
Church; quiet and unobtrusive in his manners, he was esteemed
most by those who knew him best.
In 1859 he moved to Texas, and at the call of his country
he entered the army, 1st Texas Regiment, Hoods Brigade, and
while performing the duties of a soldier he fell a victim to
disease, away from father, brother and sisters, with no Kindred
to cheer in his last moments. But those whom he best loved
on earth, though they lament his loss, are cheered by the confident
belief that the Redeemer was near, to sustain him in his last
moments and conduct him safely through the dark vally and shadow
of death.
May a kind Providence watch over the entire family thus bereaved
that ultimately it may be a family saved in Heaven, no wanderer
lost.

The daughter will be either Norcis / Narcissus, or Zena. The son
is Willoughby, I believe the T is for Thomas. Also, enumerated
in 1910, a few doors from Richard's widow, Lucy, I find Charles W. and
sister Mary E. living with her husband, William, but I cannot read the
last name. Census
