Lewis Barlow was one of the best known of the old Long Wharf boatbuilders in Newport and had a shop located on March Street at the corner of Second Street for a number of years. he taught his sons the art of shipbuilding and that trade washandled down for many years from father to son, with the location of several Barlow Boatshops on Long Wharf, (1807-1808). Lewis Barlow was a part owner with his father and brothers of the ship, "Lively", sailing out of Newport.

Pioneer Newport Boat Builder Dies.

NEWPORT, R.I., Jan. 14. --    Moses Barlow, one of Newport's pioneer boat builders, and also one of its oldest citizens, died last evening, at the residence of one of his sons here.  He was 94 years old.
