Amanda Morgan Barlow
Amanda Morgan was born on April 27, 1852 at Swan Village, Woodsetton, Sedgley Parish, Staffordshire, England.  She was the seventh child of David Morgan and Hannah Turner.  The earliest remembrance of her home in England, was of a comfortable, thatched roof cottage.

Amanda Morgan and Joseph Smith Barlow were married on November 30, 1867 at  Cedar Fort, Utah County, Utah by James Rhodebach.  She was fifteen years old and Joseph was nineteen.  Both very young to be taking on the responsibilities of married life.

Their first son, Joseph Smith, was born on January 27, 1870.   A daughter, Alice Ann, was born on September 24, 1872, the third child Mary Emily, was born on February 08, 1875.

Amanda's husband, Joseph died on August 28, 1876 of appendicitis, leaving her homeless and destitute and with a large store bill to pay.   Jesse, the  fourth  child was born  on  January 11, 1877,  almost five months after his father's death.

On October 15, 1887,  Amanda Morgan Barlow and Valison Tanner, were married by Benjamin F. Cook, Justice of the Peace.

Four children were born to this second marriage, Thomas Lester, born on May 08, 1888.   He died on May 11, 1888.   David Ralph, born on  April 25, 1889, Valison born on June 12, 1891, and  Olive  born on November 23, 1896.

Amanda died on January 24, 1931.

Mary Barlow Tanner
Mary Emily Barlow, was born on February 08, 1875 at Fairfield, Utah County, Utah being the third child of Joseph Smith Barlow Sr. and Amanda Morgan.

Allen Newman Tanner was thirty-two years of age when he was married to Mary Emily Barlow on June 20, 1894.   They lived in Grouse Creek in the old three-roomed log house for several years, then they built the big red brick house which now stands.  There were nine children born to this couple.   Amanda was born on January 20, 1896,  Allen Raymond on  February 11, 1898;  Joseph  Thomas born on  January 13, 1900 and died on February 23, 1900; another son, Leslie born on June 9, 1901 and died at the age of almost twenty-three years on April 25, 1924.   Then there were the twins, Herbert and Delbert, born on October 05, 1904.

Alice Ann Barlow Hart
Alice Ann Barlow Hart was born on September 24, 1872 in Lehi, Utah County, Utah to Amanda Morgan and Joseph Smith Barlow Sr.   Her childhood days were spent in Fairfield, Utah County, Utah.

On November 29, 1892  Alice was married to Delbert John Conger (known as Delbert F. Hart).   The first two years of their married life Delbert worked for Samuel Kimball and Henry Hales as a cowboy and general ranch hand.   While living at the Hales place, their first child, Myrtle Alice was born on March 31, 1895.   On June 18, 1903 their second child, Martha Amanda, was born.

Alice had a heart problem and passed away on November 02, 1941.

Joseph Smith Barlow Jr.
Joseph Smith Barlow Jr. was born on January 27, 1870 at Fairfield, Utah to  Joseph Smith Barlow and Amanda Morgan.

Joseph was married on January 03, 1900 to Elizabeth C. Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple. She came to Grouse Creek from Brigham City as a school teacher.   Their first child, Mildred,  was born on October 26, 1900 and Alice was born on March 23, 1902.

Joseph was called on a mission to England  and  left on December 12, 1902 and returned on January 15, 1905. The family spent the three years in Brigham City with Elizabeths parents.

After returning from his mission he lived again in the brick home he had built, with his family.  On June 05, 1906 a son,  Elmer was born.   He  died on May 26, 1907.    Another son, Shirley, was born on January 24,  1908.  A daughter, Ruth was born on October 29, 1909  and another daughter, Ida was born on September 29, 1911.   Wayne, was born on November 27, 1915.

On September 09, 1925,  Joseph suffered a heart attack and passed away.

Stake and Ward Officer:  Barlow, Joseph Smith, second counselor in the presidency of the Raft River Stake, Cassia Co., Idaho, from 1921 to 1925, was born January 27, 1870, in Fairfield, Utah County, Utah, a son of Joseph Smith Barlow and Amanda Morgan. He was baptized when nine years old, ordained a Seventy December 12, 1902, by Rulon S. Wells, filled a mission to Great Britain in 1903-1904, was ordained a High Priest July 18, 1915, by John A. Elison, and set apart as second counselor in the Raft River Stake presidency August 07, 1921, by Melvin J. Ballard.

Jesse Barlow
Jesse Barlow was born January 11, 1877 in a little one room adobe house in Fairfield, Utah County, Utah.   His father,  Joseph Smith Barlow had died just six months before at the age of twenty-eight years.   Jesse's father had been weakened by hardships encountered while crossing the plains in 1856 in the Martin Handcart Company.

Jessie's family moved to Grouse Creek in 1886.   The trip was a long and tiresome one.   They  started with two wagons on January 28 and it took them four days. In Bovine they got  stuck in the mud and  had to leave one wagon and returned for it the next June.

He liked Annie Paskett real well and married her in 1899 on the 8th day of November at the Salt Lake Temple.

Their first child, Emma was born on August 09, 1900.   Their first son, Roy Jesse was born on November 09, 1902.   Melvin was born on June 28, 1904 and died six hours later, a premature baby.   Joseph Lester was born on April 16, 1906.   Francis was born on November 07, 1908.   Adela was born on December 18, 1910 and Louise was born on February 04, 1913.   Sidney Raymond arrived on November 24, 1914 and lived but three months.   He died of pneumonia.   Inez LaVerne, the youngest, was born on January 27, 1916.

Jesse died on October 04, 1942 with cancer of the stomach.

Louise Barlow Ballingham
Louise Barlow Ballingham was born in Etna, Utah on February 04, 1913, a daughter of  Jesse and Annie Paskett Barlow.

Louise married George Edward Ballingham on May 29, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple.   She became the step-mother of Ronald and Olene and later had three children of her own, Rosalie, and twins, Wilber and Warren.

Louise died on July 04, 1984 at Sparks Family Hospital in Sparks, Nevada.

Allen Raymond Tanner
Ray was born on February 11, 1898 in Grouse Creek in a three-room log house.   Ray was the first son born to Allan Newman Tanner and Mary Emily Barlow.

Ray married Sarah Grace Wakefield, the second daughter of  Milas E. Wakefield and Annie Elizabeth Kimber. They lived in a house constructed from ties taken from the Transcontinental Railroad built in 1924.   They had 2 daughters,  Alta and Flora and 3 sons, Lewis, Wayne and Harvey.

Ray died on April 21, 1963 of pneumonia.

Emma Barlow Kimber
Emma Barlow Kimber was born August 09, 1900 to Jesse Barlow and Annie Paskett.

Emma's pleasant, smiling disposition and attractive youthful appearance, with fair complexion and reddish-blonde hair, won the affection of a young man named Thomas Edward (Ted) Kimber.   She waited and prayed for his safety while he served in the First World War.    After fighting in France, Belgium and Germany, he finally returned safely, and Emma was soon marriedto Ted on December 11, 1919 in the Salt Lake Temple.

A son, Kendall, was born on March --, 19-- and a daughter, Velma,  arrived a year and a half  later.   Another daughter, Donna, was born on March --, 19-- and Joyce, arrived March --, 19--, to  complete the family union.

Emma died February 07, 1967. 

Alice Barlow Kimber
Alice was born at Etna, Utah, on March 23, 1902.   Etna is five miles west of Grouse Creek.   She was the daughter of Joseph Smith Barlow Jr. and Elizabeth Christena (Christiana) Hansen.

On June 06, 1923 Alice married Alvin  Kimber in the Salt Lake City Temple.   They spent their honeymoon in Salt Lake City going to Liberty Park and Saltair Resort.   Their children were; son Rulon Dean born April --, 19--, daughter Maurine born March --, 19--, and daughter Elda Mae born January --, 19--.

Alice died on July 10, 1967

Martha Amanda Hart Kimber

Martha Amanda Hart Kimber was born at Ogden, Utah, on June 18, 1903.   She was the second of two children born to Delbert F. and Alice Ann Barlow Hart.

On  November 28, 1932  Martha married  Joseph Edwin Kimber (Ted) at Randolph, Utah.   They made their home in Grouse Creek.   Lee Hart Kimber, Martha's first child was born on May --, 19--.   JoAnn was born on August --, 19--.   Norman D. was born on November --, 19--.   Carolyn, was born in Brigham City on May --, 19--.   In November 19--,  Martha was blessed with a baby boy, Keith Edwin.

She died on July 27, 1969 at JoAnn's home after suffering with cancer for a year.

Herbert A. Tanner
Herb was born in Grouse Creek, Utah on October 05, 1904 at their family  home, a son of Allen Newman Tanner and Mary Emily Barlow.   He was fortunate in being a twin of Delbert E. Tanner, which made their lives more enjoyable.

When Herb was courting his future wife, he bought a horse and his father gave him one and he sold these two horses for eighty dollars to get married with.   He  married  Vera Kimber in the Salt Lake Temple on December 17, 1925.   Both of  their mothers went with them.   They returned from their short wedding trip to Grouse Creek to make their home.

Their children are:   Marjorie, Audrey, Herbert  Floyd,  Norma, Merle,  Shirley  (passed  away  at  age  twelve), Darrell K., Donald LaVarr, Eileen, Allen Gary, and Barbara Ann.

Herb died peacefully on September 17, 1987 in Brigham surrounded by family.

Delbert E. Tanner
Dell was born on October 05, 1904 to Allen Newman Tanner and Mary Emily Barlow, at Grouse Creek, Utah. He was born in a two-story brick home, one of a pair of twin boys.

Dell was married to Ella Betteridge on February 04, 1926, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Their children are:  Merlin B. Tanner, Keith Delbert, Gordon K., William Gene, Carole, and Douglas Kent.

Being born and raised on a ranch, Dell chose to continue ranching for his life s occupation.

Early in the morning of March 12, 1984, he passed away in his sleep with his loving wife, Ella, by his side. He was  seventy-nine years old and left behind his wife, two brothers and two sisters,  six children and their companions, thirty-eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a great many friends.

Joseph Lester Barlow
Joseph Lester Barlow was born on April 16, 1906, to Jesse and Annie Paskett Barlow, just two days before the great earthquake and fire in San Francisco.

He married Sarah Knotts Reed on June 17, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Their first child was Reed Nicholas follow by  Bruce Lavell and Steven Daniel.   In 1949, they built a home on the corner of 12th Avenue and J Street in Salt Lake.   It  is here that they raised their  family.   When age and health caught up with them,  they sold the home in May 1988 and moved to Pleasanton, California to be by two of their sons,  Reed and Steven.

Joseph Lester Barlow died on November 25, 1996 in San Jose, California.

Rhea Paskett Toyn
Rhea Emily Paskett was born on December 04, 1914 in  Grouse Creek, Utah to George and Amanda Tanner Paskett.

We spent the holidays when I was a child with my grandparents, Allen Newman Tanner and Mary Emily Barlow.

Rhea grew up knowing Archie Toyn all her life and on August 19, 1935,  they  were  married in the Logan Temple.   Archie's folks went with them.   They went to Brigham and stayed all night.   His parents had Effie's tonsils out, and then they went and were married.

Archie and Rhea became proud parents of two daughters, Marlene and Gail, and one son, Devon.  Heartache came early to them when their son passed away at the Kimber reunion dance.   He suddenly slid from the bench he was sitting on and in spite of anything that anyone tried he did not survive.   He  was only eleven years of age  at this time and no cause of death was found.

Rhea passed away at the home of her daughter, Gail, in  Roy, Utah on her birthday, December 04, 1992.

Kendall Kimber
Kendall Kimber was born on March 22, 1921 in the Kimber ranch house, twelve miles south of Grouse Creek. He was a premature baby and was kept alive on a pillow on the oven door.  His father is Thomas Edward Kimber and his mother is Emma Barlow Kimber.

When it was time for him to enter school,  he lived with his Grandma and Grandpa Barlow in Grouse Creek.

Kendall met his future wife, Eva Mae Gerber while in the Air Force.   They were married in the Salt Lake Temple November 18, 1943.

He was sent to the South Pacific in 1944 when Eva Mae was four months pregnant with their first child, Christena.   They  had two more children, Franklin Edward and Mary Louise.   Franklin lost his life in the irrigation ditch that ran past their home on May 13, 1949.   He was two and one-half years old.  They also had a daughter, Diana and a son Fred.   Their last daughter,  Kathryn Marie was born on March --, 19--.

Kendall died on September 13, 1991 in the Tremonton, Utah  hospital.    He is buried in the Snowville Cemetery, Snowville, Utah.   He has six children, twenty-two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Alta Grace Tanner Clucas
Alta Tanner was born on August 30, 1918 in Grouse Creek, Box Elder County, Utah.   She was the first child of Allen Raymond Tanner and Sarah Grace Wakefield Tanner.

Alta met and fell in love with William R.Clucas and married  him on July 02, 1949 in Evanston, Wyoming.  They spent a glorious honeymoon week in Yellowstone National Park before returning to Ogden.

Alta and Bill never had children of their own.

Alta died on April 26, 1996

Lewis Weldon Tanner
Lewis was born on June 25, 1927 the second son and  fourth child of Allen Raymond and Sarah Grace Wakefield Tanner in Grouse Creek, Utah.

Lewis was married to Evelyn, in 19--  and settled in Kaysville with her and her three children, Colleen, Kathleen, and David, whom he adopted.   Two boys were born to them;  Stephen Mark  in 19--  and  Paul Alan  in 19--.

Nature often made life exciting.   When Lewis was about four years old, and standing on the shelf of the cupboard while  his Mother was cooking breakfast, Alta came running in, all excited because "something was coming."   In a minute the house started to shake and threw him off  the cupboard.   It was the earthquake that put the crack in Grandpa's brick house.

Wayne R. Tanner
On a blustery Winter day seventy-one years ago, Wayne was delivered into this world.  The delivery was assisted  by two elderly midwives who took care of the health needs of the community.  The event took place on February 21, 1925 in  an isolated ranching community called Grouse Creek that  is located in the extreme northwest section of the state of Utah.

In 19--, Sharon Rose and Wayne were united in marriage at Standrod, Idaho.   Her father was a sheep man with no son so Sharon and I helped him for two years.

Wayne graduated in 1971 from the Graduate School of Social Work, and thier first and only child was born on September 29, 1971.   Her name is Melanie Grace.

Wayne suffered a heart attack and passed away on January 05, 1997. 

Merlin B. Tanner
Merlin B. Tanner was born on October --, 19-- at Grouse Creek, Utah,  the son of  Delbert and Ella Tanner.  He was born in his Grandfather Betteridge's home, which he now owns and lives in.   Merlin was delivered by his great-grand- mother, Mary Shaw Hadfield.   He was the first of six children.

After Merlin graduated from high school, he was drafted into the United  States  Army.   On January 11, 1945, he reported to Ft. Douglas, Utah,  where he was immediately placed on guard duty.

On October --, 19--,  Merlin was married to Kenna Rose Kunzler in the Logan  LDS Temple by Elder ElRay L. Christiansen for time and eternity.   Merlin and Kenna have five children, Blaine, Laraine, Jay, Brent and Terrie.
