Based completely on location, I have concluded that the John Barlow found in Sumter Co Georgia in the 1840 census is the husband of Elizabeth. I was unable to locate him after this 1840 census. Also note that 2 Phillips families live in close proximity. I also believe these will be a part of the Isle of Wight Virginia families, but I am unable to determine who might be his father.

On March 05, 1863, Wilson Hues Barlow enlisted in the Confederate Army, GA 51rst Infantry, Co G, at Newton, Baker Co Georgia. Discharged at the end of the war while in a hospital in Macon Georgia. |

Is this the same Wilson H. Barlow we are researching? I did find this Mary A. Barlow, age 55, born July 1844 in South Carolina in the home of Charles S. and Emma Alexander, where she is shown as a widow. 1900, Orlando City, Orange Co Florida We know that our Wilson is not deceased, but it is not unusual for a couple who has separated to say they are widowed in these census records. |
I could not locate Wilson in a 1900 census. |
Wilson states in his pension application of 1907 that he is the father of one son and three daughters, all of whom were living at that time. It appears that Wilson is alone, no property, he lives "amongst" his children and has no means of support. Apparently either John or M.M. Barlow is deceased at the time of the filing. |

Alfred was an immigration officer / Chinese inspector. He worked in Massachusetts, all over Arizona, New Mexico, El Paso, Texas, and all along the Mexican border. Transferred to Florida, New Orleans, and New York.
Eldora lived in San Luis Obispo, California during his later transfers, with four of the children. The fifth child, Alfred, my father was sent to Massachusetts to live with relatives in Westboro, I believe. Alfred Sr was finally transferred to San Francisco to be near his family, where he died. |
