Howard E. Durost,  79, of  1950  South U.S. Route 1,  Vero Beach, Fla.,  formerly of  9 Tatman St., died yesterday in the home of his daughter here after an illness.

He leaves  his wife of  52 years,  Doris E. (Galusha) Durost; a son,  Ronald E. Durost of Worcester;  two daughters, Debra E. Morrissey of Newton and Sandra E. Gunderman of Worcester; four brothers,  Carl E.  and Roland Durost, both of Hooksett  N.H., Harvey E.  and  Albert G.  Durost, both of Manchester, N.H.; a sister, Lillian Philibert of Manchester N.H.;  seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

He  was  born in  Manchester, N.H.,son of Winslow and Evelyn (Barlow) Durost, and  lived there most of his life before moving to Florida in 1988.

Mr. Durost was a mason at Worcester State Hospital for 34 years, retiring in 1976.  He then worked for several years at  Holy Cross College.   He also was a self-employed mason.   Mr. Durost was a member of the Retired State, County & Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts.

Funeral  services  will  be  held at 11 a.m.  tomorrow in  Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St. Burial  will be  in  Eastwood Cemetery,  Lancaster.   Calling hours at the funeral home are 10 to 11 a.m. tomorrow.

In  lieu of  flowers,  memorial  contributions may be made to the  Visiting  Nurse Association of Central Massachusetts, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, 01608.

Walter L.  Milne,  78,  formerly of  Louisville,  died Monday in  Arlington, Texas.   He  was  a  native  of
Brooklyn,  N. Y.,  a  retired  Army major,  a veteran of  World War II and  the  Korean  War,  a  former employee of  the Internal Revenue Service and a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Survivors:  his wife,  the former  Anne Cochran;  a son,  Robert L.  Milne  of  Brooklyn;  two  daughters, Winn  Mete  of  Nahant,  Massachusetts,  and  Adelia   Deeley;  a stepson,  Drew Barlow of  Edmond, Oklahoma.;  three stepdaughters,   Jan  Barlow of Atlanta,  Joan Barlow of  Payson, Arizona, and Beverly Barlow of  Vero Beach, Florida.; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Arlington.  Cremation to follow.

Y. CROLIUS, CHURCH VOLUNTEER

A memorial service is set for 6 p.m. today for Yvonne Crolius, 60, of Plantation.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Crolius moved to South Florida almost 40 years ago.   She was active in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Plantation for the  past 27 years and often helped take care of elderly church members, making sure they had a way to get to and from services.

She  was  the wife of  George S. Crolius,  public information officer for the Broward Sheriff's Office.   In addition to her husband,  Mrs. Crolius is  survived by  two sons, Joseph A., of  Tamarac, and  John D., of Fort  Lauderdale;  a daughter,  Patrica R. Litt,  of  Pittsford,  N.Y.;  three  brothers, Tommy  Jordan, of Memphis, Tenn., Don Jordan, of  Fordyce, Ark., and David Jordan, of Memphis, Tenn.; and two sisters, Sue Mendillo, of Tamarac, and Mary Barlow, of Memphis, Tenn.

Today's  memorial service will be at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 11351 W. Broward Blvd. in  Plantation.  Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Care of Broward County Inc.

SMITH,  Dawn Palatiello,  64  a  resident  of  Trumbull,  Ct,  died  Wednesday, March 13, 1996 in her home.

Mrs. Smith was born in  Waterbury, CT and resided  in the  Bridgeport area,  later moving to FL  where she lived for 25 years before returning to Trumbull four years ago. She was a free lance staff writer work- ing for Hometown Publications which owns the Trumbull Times.

Mrs.  Smith  is  survived  by  one son,  James  M.  Neary;  one  daughter, Robin Neary both of Pompano Beach, FL;  her mother, Alice Barlow  Palatiello of  Trumbull;  one  brother,  Robert Palatiello  of Stratford;  and two nieces, Brenda Labinski and June Palatiello both of Stratford.

Friends  may attend the funeral on  Friday at 9:00 AM in St. Theresa Church, Trumball with a Mass of Christian burial, interment in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull.

DuCHATEAU   - Stephen J.,  57, of  Batavia, OH,  formerly of  North  Miami Beach,  FL passed away August 31, 1996.  The sorrow of his sudden passing is shared by all. 

He is survived by Sandra  DuChateau, his wife and  partner  of twelve years;  his two daughters,  Danielle DuChateau of Hollywood, FL  and Anisak Chitwood of Cincinnati,  OH; his son,  Jerald A. Hile  also of Cincinnati;  his   sister,  Carol  L. Watters;  his  brother-in-law,  William M.  Watters;  a  niece,  Lynn A. Watters;   a - nephew,  Stephen  W.  Watters,  all  of  Cooper  City, FL;  his mother-in-law,  Fannie T. Barlow of Cincinnati, OH; and three grandchildren.

"Stephen was not just family but our best friend".

Daytona Beach Florida:  Irving B. Tower, 88,  of 1113 Clearwater  Road died  yesterday in the Clyatts Nursing Home  after a short illness.

His wife,  Eleanor H. (Little)  Tower,  died in  1984.  He leaves two sons, Raymond B. Tower of Lunen- burg and  David M. Tower of Rindge;  his longtime companion, Carmella Ortlip of Daytona Beach; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was born in Lunenburg, son of  Harry and  Louise (Barlow) Tower.  He  attended  Lunenburg schools.

Mr.  Tower  owned  Tower Tire  Service  in  Fitchburg and  retired  in  1970.    He was a member of the Charles  W. Moore  Lodge of  Masons in  Fitchburg  and  the  Shriners  for 50 years.   He  was  an  avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed fishing.  He was a New Hampshire  licensed  fishing  guide on  Lake Suna- pee  in  New  Hampshire  during the  '50s and  summered  on  Lake Sunapee  during  the '60s and Lake Winnipesaukee during the '70s and '80s.

The  funeral  service  is  private and  at  the  convenience  of  the  family.   There  are  no  calling  hours.

Elgin,  Illinois;  brother:  Neeley  Dillon  of Leesburg,  Florida;  5  grandchildren and 3  great grandchildren.

He came here in  1974 from his native Indianapolis.   He worked as a quality  control manager for a tool and die company.

He was  an Army Air Corps veteran.   He was Methodist  and a  member of  Elks Lodge  1719,  Tarpon Springs,  Scottish  Rite Valley of Tampa, Egypt  Shrine  Temple, Tampa,  Pleasant Lodge 134  F&AM, Acton, Ind., and OES.

Survivors include his  wife,  Leonor May;  a  stepdaughter, Mona Kehrer, Clearwater;  three  stepsons, Carl  Medford  Barlow Jr.,  Tarpon Springs, Davis Ralph BarlowPembroke Pines,  and Derek Craig Barlow, Tampa;  seven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and a niece.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y.,  she  came here  12 years ago from Port Washington,  N.Y.,  and  was  a homemaker and member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter,  Margaret Brynda, Shoreham, N.Y.; a son, James, Spring Hill; and six grandchildren.

Freda B. Barlow, 72, Bradenton, died Feb. 9, 1999.

Born Feb. 28, 1926, in Natchez, Miss., she came to Sarasota 37 years ago from Alliance, Ohio, and later moved to Bradenton.  She owned and operated an employment agency.

Survivors   include  two  daughters,  Constance Blair of  Gainesville and  Patrice Poto  of  Raleigh, N.C.;  two  sons, Michael Blair of Plant City and Peter Poto of Sarasota; a sister, Florence Rimer of Bradenton; and  three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday,  with  the  service  following,  at  Hawkins Funeral  Home.   Burial will be private.

She was a Protestant and worked as a secretary for an insurance company.

Survivors  include  a  sister,  Hazel Ford,  Largo;  two nieces, Jean Barlow, Largo,  and  Linda  White, Talladega, Ala; and a great-niece, Kelly Carter, Largo.

Elva B. Barlow, 86, Bradenton, died March 26, 1999.

She was  born  Aug. 3, 1912, in  Royal Oak, Mich., and came to  Manatee County 10 years ago from  New Port Richey.   She was a homemaker and a member of  Church of The Annunciation,  and was a volunteer at Blake Medical Center.

Survivors  include a daughter, Jeanne  Colwell of Bradenton;  one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

He was a resident of this area since 1960 coming here from Kentucky.

He was a retired electrical engineer.   He was Baptist.  He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Suwanna; a son, Dale, Denver; a daughter, Marna Jean Sutton, Rochester, Minn.;  two brothers, Walt, and Willie, Scottsdale, Ariz.;  a sister, Lorraine Nesvig, Scottsdale; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
