September 1999 Information only, the submitter prefers not to be identified
Alma Lydia Read, descended from William Read of Batcombe England and Weymouth, Massachusetts who arrived in this
country with the Reverend Joseph Hull's Company in 1635. She was born on 29 July, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois and died on 10
September, 1982 in Cairo, Georgia.
She married first James Theodore "Ted" Hall on 24 March, 1934 in Gurnee, Illinois.
She married second, E.C. BARLOW on 12 April, 1969 in Cairo, Georgia. E.C. was born on 07 February, 1905 and died in
February, 1987 in Cairo, Georgia. I don't have any other hard data.
I know that E.C. had 3-4 sons by his first wife. One was a Methodist preacher in Blackshear, Georgia, as well as a
clown. Both organizations should have a record.
One son was a lawyer, another son was a dentist. I think there was one more, but I can't remember for sure. I'm pretty sure they were all born and raised in Cairo.
E.C. owned, I think; a Shell gasoline station in Cairo, when they were married. A copy of the Cairo high school yearbook for the early 1950's should have one or more of the Barlows in it. |

Does anyone have any information on Mary "Mollie" Barlow who married William Chapman? William and Mollie lived in Fulton Co Georgia.
Known children include twins: William and Mary Frances Chapman who were born in 1915.
Mollie died in 1959 and I have been told at the time of her death she was living with her daughter, Mary Frances Chapman
Smith.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. |

I am interested in Ilsey/Isley Barlow...aka Tadder..who was married to Silas Bullock in Georgia abt 1810, and later removed to
Covington Co Mississippi. It seems everyone has hit the same wall with Isley and Silas.
The only additional information I have is the oral tradition passed down by my grandmother, Virginia Mathis Hooks; she said
that Isley's parents were full blood Choctaw. John Barlow, born in North Carolina, and Sarah, born in Virginia. If they were
born in NC and VA, I don't believe that they would be Choctaw. Even if you take into account the extent of land that Virginia
claimed in those years, they would be more likely Cherokee than Choctaw assuming that they were indeed Indian.
As for Silas I have no parent's identified and have only the birthdate and place of birth from the census records. However, the
census records do seem to conflict with other extant records as to place of birth. 1850 say Mississippi other records (and
grandmother) indicate North Carolina. All in all, a fine puzzle to unravel. |

A book called "Cotton to Kaolin: A History of Washington County, Georgia 1784-1989" is published by the Washington Co Georgia Historical Society and can still be bought by contacting them. The address is: The Washington County Museum 129 Jones St. Sandersville, Georgia 31082
This book contains information on all the children of William & Edith and goes down several generations. A copy can
be found in the Washington Memorial Library's Genealogy Department in Macon, Georgia. Most of these children settled in Bleckley, Pulaski, & Dodge Counties in Middle Georgia. The information I am sending is mainly on my line from these books.
Many people in these Middle Georgia counties can trace their family lines back to William and Edith.
James Barlow is of Irish descendancy based on family knowledge that has been handed down over the generations. My maternal grandmother has talked of her gr-gr-grandmother, Lucinda "Lucy" Barlow Brantley, who's grandfather, James, was Irish. Apparently Lucy had talked often of it to her children and it has been passed on to us over the years. There is no doubt in my mind that this family is of Irish origins, but I have no idea where they came from in Ireland. More research will need to be done in these areas. |
