IVAN M. BARLOW

Ivan M. Barlow, 78, of 946 W. North St. died at 5 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 1992, at his residence.

Born May 25, 1913, in Galva to Forrest Samuel and Nellie Payne Barlow, he married Margaret A. "Peg" Clark on Nov. 27, 1939, in Rock Island. She survives.  Also surviving are one son, Richard L. of Galesburg; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Bachman of Lake Bracken, rural Galesburg, and Mrs. Wayne (Barbara E.) Dennis of East Peoria; three brothers, Richard P. of Galesburg, Milford of Maquon and Howard of Scottsdale, Arizona; one sister, Ella Mae Dillon of Galva; nine grandchildren;and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

He worked for 25 years asa well driller and later for 15 years as an apartment manager in Arlington Heights before retiring in 1982. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Private family graveside services will be held Thursday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, the Rev. Roy Roberts officiating. Visitation willbe from7 to 8:30 p.m.Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Galesburg.   Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

WILLIAM "BILL" ILES

William "Bill" Iles, 81, of Park Rapids, Minnesota, formerly of Peoria, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1993, at his home.  Born May 25, 1912, in Appleton to William and Geneva Iles, he married Ada Mae Barlow on June 15, 1935.  She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Claralene) Whiteside of Peoria and Mrs. Jack (Wilma) Stobaugh of Farmington; two sons, Bill of Texas and Bob of Park Rapids; one brother, Bert Iles of Toulon; one sister, Vivian Wallis of Galesburg; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. One infant son, one brother and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

He was an Army veteran. He was a pressman at the Galesburg Register-Mail from 1940 to 1948 and later at the Peoria Journal Star until 1961.

He and his wife operated Birch Harbor Resort in Park Rapids until 1983.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at  Jones-Behrens Funeral Home in Park Rapids, where visitation will be from  4 to 8 p.m. Friday.  Burial will be in Lake Emma Cemetery in Park Rapids.

Memorials may be made to the Hemophilia Foundation of Illinois.

WILMA FRAME TAYLOR

Wilma Frame Taylor, 79, of Castro Valley, Calif., formerly of Elmwood, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1993, at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley.

She was born Sept. 5, 1913, in El Paso, Ill., to J. Dale and Bertha Barlow Frame.

Surviving are one brother, Bud Frame of Elmwood; two sisters, Ruth Christian of Des Moines, Iowa, and Myrna Schwerm Dasmann of Castro Valley; four nieces and three nephews.  She was a secretary for Broady's Manufacturing Co. in Castro Valley for 30 years, retiring in 1980.She was a member of Elmwood Presbyterian Church where memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday.  The Rev. Gary McBrian will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Cremation was accorded and burial of ashes will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Patterson Funeral Home in Elmwood is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, B.Y.E. Ambulance or her church.

CARL H. FLECK II

Carl H. Fleck II, 74, of Springfield died at 7:45 a.m. Friday at his residence.  He was born July 19, 1919, in Springfield, the son of Carl and Nora Ratz Fleck.

He married Loretta A. Harbauer in 1946 in Springfield.  Two grandchildren preceded him in death. Mr. Fleck was a diesel mechanic at Fiatallis prior to retiring.  He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He also attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sherman and was a member of the Living Vine Prayer Group. Mr. Fleck was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta A. of Springfield; seven sons, Carl H. III and John D., both of Springfield, William J. of Buffalo, Paul A. of York, Pennsylvania, Charles R. of Rushville, Martin G. of Beardstown and Gerald T. of Kingland, Georgia; five daughters, Mrs. George "Jeanne" Barlow of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Carol Outain of Springfield, Mrs. Charles "Mary" Palmer of Ipava, Mrs. Herb "Eileen" Blickenstaff Jr. of Bader and Mrs. Greg "Gilda" Koenig of Linn Creek, Missouri; 23 grandchildren; a great-grandson; three brothers, Julius of Quincy and James and Joseph, both of Springfield; six sisters, Mrs. Sam "Rose Marie" Pope, Mrs. Frank "Theresa" Hammitt and Mrs. Robert "Betty" Terry, all of Springfield, Mrs. Albert "Frances" Halverstadt of Sherman, Mrs. Harold "Florence" Weyhmeyer of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Mrs. James "Mary" Becker of St. Louis, Missouri; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Concelebrated funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sherman, with burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Ann Marie Melton, infant daughter of Timothy Melton and Geraldine Barlow, both of Greenview, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Hospital.  She was born Wednesday in Springfield.

In addition to parents, surviving are grandparents, Kenneth Altig of Sweetwater and Sharon Altig of Greenview, and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce "Caron" Melton of Petersburg; and a brother, Daniel Barlow of Greenview.

Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at  Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview, withthe Reverend Steve Hardin officiating.  Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FRANCIS J. "BUD" CUMMINGS

Francis J. "Bud" Cummings, 70, of Springfield died at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Hospital. He was born February 17, 1924, in Springfield, the son of Alexander and Ellen Clusker Cummings. He married Audrey R. Shean in 1947.  Preceding him in death were two brothers, William and Anthony Cummings; and a sister, Mary Barlow.

Mr. Cummings had been a firefighter for 14 years with the Springfield Fire Department.  He retired after 20 years as a miner with Peabody Coal Co. He was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and its Over 55 Club, DAV Hall Hagler Post 15 and American Legion Post 32.  He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife,  Audrey of Springfield; a daughter, Cathleen P.Cummings of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a son, Robert D. Cummings of Chicago; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Rachkus of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m.Friday at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with the Reverend Michael Mullink officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.   Staab Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Amsey D. Booker, 68, of Kincaid died at 6:36 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Hospital.

WANITA J. DURBIN

Wanita J. Durbin, 63, of Taylorville died at 5:35 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Hospital.    She was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Athens, the daughter of Jerry and Margaret Geriets Williams.

She married James Durbin in 1968 in Taylorville.  Preceding her in death were a daughter, Diane Opolka in 1962, a son, Michael Opolka in 1990, and a sister, Geraldine Barlow.

Mrs. Durbin was a lifelong resident of Taylorville and employed as a bartender.   She was a member of the Moose Lodge 1516 in Taylorville.

Surviving are her husband, James; two sons, Bruce Opolka of Lensburg and Scott Opolka of Sparta; two daughters, Linda DeWeese and Tammy Scott, both of Taylorville; five grandchildren; a twin brother, Wayne Williams of Springfield; four sisters, Bernice Chamness of Santa Ana, Calif., Henrietta Allen of Amarillo, Texas, Lorene Paine of Morrisonville; and Anna Marie Bozarth of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shafer Funeral Home in Taylorville, the Reverend Kenneth Bergstedt officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.

GERTRUDE M. MUELLER

Gertrude M. Mueller, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Urbana, died at 6:38 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Hospital.  She was born June 5, 1907, in Springfield, the daughter of John S. and Catherine Schmitz Flesch. She married William M. Mueller in 1942 in South Bend, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974; four brothers, Charles, Edward, Stephen and Lawrence Flesch; two nephews; two nieces; and sister, Antoinette.

Mrs. Mueller was a homemaker and amember of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Cathedral Altar and Rosary Society.

Surviving are several nieces including Mrs. Charles "Margaret" Mordacq, Mrs. Joseph "Helen" Kolis and Mrs. John "Rita" Barlow, all of Springfield, and Mrs. Dwaine "Rosemary" Voudrie of Pana; a nephew; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

JANE AXEL

Jane Axel, 76, of Jacksonville, formerly of Springfield, died Saturday at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.  She was born July 2, 1919, in Durham, Missouri, the daughter of Harvey H. and Helen Barlow Axel.

Miss Axel was a registered nurse.  She graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. Her nursing career included many years of private duty nursing in Chicago. She was director of Nursing at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb and St. Mary'sHospital in Quincy.  She was faculty member of Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in Quincy and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. She had retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in 1981. She was a harter  member of the Parkway Christian Church in  Springfield, a member of Abraham Lincoln Chapter - Order o fthe Eastern Star in Springfield.  She was past president of Springfield Association Life Underwriters.

Survivors: a brother, Harvey Axel of Quincy; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty"Axel of Jacksonville; and several cousins.

Services: 10:30a.m. Tuesday, Bisch and Son Funeral Home, the Reverend Nancy Stump officiating. Burial: Mausoleum, South Side Cemetery, Clayton.

DONALD E. STINE

Donald E. Stine, 79, of Springfield died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born October 18, 1916, in Owen County, Indiana, the son of Howard and Reperta Cunnduf Stine.  He married Helen F. McGeath in 1938; she preceded him in death in 1985.

Mr. Stine was a lifelong resident of Springfield.   He worked as a mechanic and was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.

Survivors: two sons,  Ronald F. and Michael W. Stine, both of Springfield; a daughter, Peggy Stine Allen of Herrick; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Vern Stine of Springfield; four sisters, Betty Barlow, Delores Stine, Maxine Mohler and Mary Ethel Speary, all of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Blanche Ferne Shryock, 66, of Springfield died Sunday at her residence. She was born July 7, 1930, in East Prairie, Mo., the daughter of Lloyd and Frances Tompkins Bright.

She married Dennis W. Shryock in 1948.  A Springfield resident since 1947, she worked for the State Library as a data input operator. She was amember of Southern View Chapel and a graduate of Rosiclare High School in Rosiclare.

HERBERT R. BARLOW

Herbert R. Barlow, 70, of Springfield died Thursday at St. John's Hospital.

He was born December 10, 1926, in Springfield, the son of Thomas and Sally Jackson Barlow.  He married Betty J. Stine in 1957.

Mr. Barlow, a lifelong resident of Springfield, retired from Pillsbury where he was a millwright for 36 years.   He also had been employed part  time as a service representative for Burpee Seed Company.  He was a member of St. AgnesChurch and Holy NameSociety, had honorary status in the Knights of Columbus 4179, member of Samaritans of St. John's Hospital, American Federation of Grain Millers AFL Local 24, and was a track official at Jacksonville Speedway.

Survivors: wife, Betty J. Barlow; two daughters, Jeanine L. Barlow of Aurora, Colo,and Jolene A. Barlow of Golden, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. John "Dorothy" Millburn of Springfield; two brothers, Richard Barlow of Springfield and Paul Barlow of Lake City, Florida.; an aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grace H. Emerick, 86, of Springfield died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at her residence.

She was born March 21, 1912, in Cabell County, West Virginia, the daughter of Fred and Rilla Barlow Lockhart.    She married Frank Emerick in 1933.

Mrs. Emerick was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 14 in Parkersburg, W.V, and Laurel United Methodist Church.

Survivors: husband, Frank; a daughter, Janet Burley of Springfield; two grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; a sister, Vernice Reeves of Burnt Hills, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service for Wayne Lee Clark, 56, most recently of Chicago, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, at Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn.

Mr. Clark was director of IMC at Bloomingdale's DuJardin Elementary School and videographer for First Light Production in Burr Ridge.  He was former AV director of Naperville North High School, and a member of Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club and the Professional Car Society.

He was the beloved husband of Marlene (nee Fuhrman); dear father of Jennifer (Michael) Drew of Lombard; loving grandfather of Cassidy Jane and Samuel Vincent Drew; cherished brother of Carol (Arthur) Barlow of Munster, Ind; devoted son of the late Raymond and Lucille Clark; fond nephew of many aunts and uncles; and special uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Fred F. Barlow, 63, of Chicago, formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at LaGrange Community Hospital.  He was born April 21, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Fredrick F. and Mary Barlow Sr.

He married Patricia Moss.

Mr. Barlow retired as a machinist for Electro Motive Co.

Survivors: wife, Patricia; two sons, William and Thomas Barlow; a daughter, Teresa Barlow; three sisters, Barbara (husband, Charles) Bland, and Catherine and MaryBarlow; two brothers, George (wife, Judee) and Alex Barlow; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter H. Ostman, 96, formerly of Midland Park, N.J. and for more than 65 years a resident of Ridgewood, N.J., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, in Bethlehem, Pa.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the last of five children born to Henry Barlow and Louise (nee Ernst) Ostman, he moved to Ridgewood as an infant.  While growing up in Ridgewood, Walter and his older brother operated an amateur radio station, 2-OM, and were awarded the Herbert Hoover Cup for best amateur radio station in 1922.

In his younger years, he was a Little League baseball coach in Ridgewood and assistant scoutmaster, Pack 8, Ridgewood United Methodist Church.

For many years Walter was the owner of Ho-Ho-Kus Television.   Later in life he was a crossing guard for nine years for the Travell School in Ridgewood, before a stroke ended his career in 1985.  He was formally remembered by the parents and students of the Travell Home-School Association and Ridgewood Police for his unselfish dedication to the children.  Walter knew virtually every birthday of the children he crossed, and celebrated these days by giving out candy.  Over many years, his longtime friends and customers were often the recipients of beautiful and fragrant peony flowers and /or bountiful Kentucky Wonder string beans, tomatoes, swiss chard or zucchini grown in his garden which was always adorned by snapdragons, sweetpeas and other colorful flowers.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for his cigars, warmth, generosity of heart, and quiet, faithful love.

Walter was married 51 years to the late Grace Ostman (nee Conklin), until her death in 1993.  He is survived by his daughter, Susan L. (Bill) Koning of Batavia; sons, Curtis A. (Peg) Ostman of Tulsa, Okla., the Rev. W. Sanford (Marilee) Ostman of Bethlehem and David C. (El) Ostman of Glen Rock, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Private arrangements were made by Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  Interment was in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J.  Please make any memorial gifts to the charity of your choice.

A memorial funeral service for John L. Anderson, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the United Protestant Church, corner of Whitney Street and Park Avenue, Grayslake.  Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, he passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Condell Medical Center, Liberty-ville. Interment will be private.

Mr. Anderson had been a resident of Grayslake for 12 years and was formerly of Mundelein for 30 years.    He was a member of the United Protestant Church in Grayslake and was a volunteer driver for the Meals on Wheels program as well as for taking cancer patients to their medical appointments. He was also an avid gardener. A veteran, John had served in the Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Anderson (nee Fraser), whom he married April 06, 1946; children, Carole V. (Donald Guilliams) Anderson, Stephen P. (Mary) Anderson and Douglas J. (Sally) Anderson; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Stephen, Jacob and Emily; sisters, Evelyn (Ed) Darrow, Virginia (Al) Balsam and Marion (Arthur) Barlow; brother, Donald (Ellen) Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lamont Anderson, and sister, Doris Hagerty.

Friends and family may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. Memorial donations may be made to the United Protestant Church or to the American Cancer Society. For information, (847) 223-8122.

Angline Faucon Barlow of Springfield celebrated her 92nd birthday with a family dinner at her home. 

She was born March 9, 1908. She married John Barlow in 1928.  He is now deceased.  Mrs. Barlow is a homemaker. She  is the mother of 6 children, Betty Green, Doris Snyder, Julia Hall, Jack Barlow, Mary Rose Robinson and Josie Butcher, all of Springfield. There are 31 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Angeline Faucon Barlow, 92, of Springfield died Friday, April 14, 2000, in her home.

She was born March 09, 1908, in Auburn, the daughter of Julius and Valentine Bouvia Faucon.

She married John Barlow in 1928; he preceded her in death in 1974.

Mrs. Barlow, a Springfield resident for most of her life, was a homemaker.

Survivors: 5 daughters, Betty(husband, John) Green,   Doris (husband, Clarence) Snyder, Julia (husband, Albert) Hall, Mary Rose (husband, Raymond) Robinson and Josie (husband, Augie) Butcher, all of Springfield; a son, John E. "Jack" Barlow of  Pleasant Plains; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John "Jack" Faucon of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Staab Funeral Home, the Very Rev. Thomas Holinga, VG, officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
