EDWIN L. BARLOW DIES;  OLD GOSHEN RESIDENT   1915

Edwin L. Barlow, aged 78, for many years a resident of Goshen, died Wednesday night at 10:45 at his
home 508 South Sixth Street, after an illness of six days.   Death was caused by lobar pneumonia, super-
induced by chronic bronchitus.  His death came very quietly.

Edwin Luther Barlow was born near Albion, N. Y., May 20, 1836 and died Jan. 13, 1915.  His father
was a physician, but he lost both parents early in childhood.    He came to  Indiana in 1858, and  took up
his residence in Leesburg, where he was married to Catherine Hattel in 1866.  Mr.   Barlow came from a
military family.   His great grandfather  served in the  Revolutionary War,  his grandfather  in the War of
1812,  and his father  in the Mexican War,  while he  himself attained the  rank of  lieutenant in the Civil
War, where he served for four years, most of the time in the 74th Indiana regiment.

Mr.  Barlow was a  past chancellor in the  Knights of  Pithias,  and a member of  the  Grand  Army of the
Republic.   During his active life in the uniform rank of the Knights of Pithias he served as captain of the
local company and was adjutant of the regiment.

He has been a faithful member of the  First  Methodist church  for many  years.   He was a  man of  alert
intellect, which remained clear to the last.

He was a constant reader and was remarkably well informed in  many lines, and was devoted to his family
and his simple duties.   His home is filled with handsome  pieces of his handiwork, made during the many
years of his employmnent at the Lewis-Neville Co.    Mr. Barlow's gentle manners won him many friends
and he will be much missed.

The wife of the deceased died in 1901, and one son also died in infancy.

His only near remaining  relatives are  two daughters,  Mrs. Helen B. England & Miss Luella Barlow,
and one brother residing in Petersburg, Michigan.

The funeral will be held Saturday.  Further arrangements will be announced later.
