Susan Barlow married Joseph Viedte Frye in Fayette Co Kentucky probably around 1798. She could have come from Scott or Bourbon Co Kentucky since the land owned by the Fryes was close to these areas which were carved from Fayette County.

Two Barlow families were listed on the early tax commissioner's reports as was William Frye, the father of Joseph.  At that time the Barlow's lived in Fayette Co but by 1790 they were listed in other counties.

The marriage records of Susan and Joseph Viedte Frye were lost in a Fayette Co courthouse fire.  As far as I know, she and Joseph remained in Fayette Co where he died in 1812.  In the Fayette Co. 1790 Tax list there was a Thomas Barlow and a James Barlow...in 1789...as near as I can tell from the original records,William Frye was visited by the tax commissioner on November 13, and Henry Barlow was visited on November 04. in Fayette County.   That is not very close, but there were Barlow families living close to the  Fryes, and it is a good possibility that Susan came from one of them....but I have not been able to find her.

I am supposing  that  Margaret "Peggy" Barlow Devore was her sister......John Devore was a witness to Joseph's will.

Margaret and John were married in Fayette Co Kentucky on January 06, 1803. Margaret did genealogists a great favor by giving middle names to all of her 13 children .. all born between 1804 and 1822:

Letitia Blackburn Devore
Uriah Johnson Devore
Samuel Price Devore
James Harvey Devore
Eliza Smith Devore
Susannah Frye Devore
Martin Luther Devore
Charity Ann Devore
Enoch Barlow Devore
John F. Devore
Aaron Barlow Devore
Margaret Devore
Elizabeth Devore

These names would indicate that she and Susan originated with the Barlows in Culpeper Co.  Margaret was born in 1781..... I have tried using naming patterns to identify Susan's possible origins.  She and Joseph named their daughters    Matilda, Eliza, Margaret  & Lucretia ..some of those names appear in the early southeastern Virginia Barlows. I have also followed the male name," Milton" which appears over and over in the Barlow, Frye and Harris ... families through at least four generations.  The name "Milton" might have originated with Milton Barlow born about 1763 .....as I recall....in Virginia. So you see...I have some major problems with Susan. Other researchers have been satisfied that she is a Barlow, but they don't know why.  I have thought about the North Carolina connection since some Barlows did leave Kentucky... I think that Thomas Barlow was one of them...but Susan does not fit in his family as far as records show. One researcher has given Susan a birthdate--09 March 1775 and a death date 03 September 1836.    Thanks

The following is what I know about Francis H. Barlow, my ggrandfather: He was born in Bourbon Co Kentucky, married Jeanette Gordon "Jenny" born April 29, 1866 in Elgin, Scotland.  I don`t know where or when they were married, but the family was in Jackson Co Missouri by 1894 when my grandmother, Margaret was born, Sept 25, 1894 (Jeanette died May 24, 1942 in Independence Missouri).

They had three other children, Francis (m) born 1900, Gordon born 1903, and Ethel.

For some reason I haven`t found additional information on Francis H.   He is not buried with his wife.

Kentucky marriage records show that James M. Barlow married Elizabeth Barlow, daughter of Thomas Barlow of Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky June 24, 1835. I show her name as Susanna, the daughter of Billy Barlow and the groom was James Madison Barlow,  the date was the same.

The real problem is what happened to this union between 1835 and 1848.  He left for Utah in 1848 and she is not mentioned as a spouse in any of the records after 1848.    If she is mentioned, Susannah is a third wife.  No other details about her is mentioned.  I don't know whether this is wife #1 or not.

Did the union produce children?  If so who, where and when?

Did she die, either from natural causes, incurable disease, or childbirth?    Where and when? Did they split the sheets before he became a Mormon or was it because he chose the Mormon faith?

I could ask dozens more questions, but I think you get the drift.

This is a major hole in my research, I have no clue as to their residence.   Thanks

The family of Christopher Barlow and Anna Barbara Moyer: I have a daughter Elizabeth Barlow married 11 January 1796 Washington Co Kentucky,  Robert Brumfield. He was the son of James Brumfield and Joanna Berry.  She married second a Spencer.

Robert Brumfield's brother, William Brumfield married Nancy "Ann" Lincoln. Ann Lincoln was the half sister to Josiah Lincoln who married Katherine Barlow, also a daughter of Christopher and Anna Barlow.

Can anyone identify the Michael Barlow who married 26 December 1789 Washington Co Kentucky,  Rebecca Pyburn.  She was probably a sister to Mary Pyburn who married James Brumfield.  James was the brother to the above Robert and William.    -Imo Greenwood shows Michael to be the son of Adam Barlow and Mary Elizabeth "Maria" Smith.-

James Brumfield and Mary Pyburn had a son, James Brumfield who married Mary Frances Barlow  29 November 1820 in Washington Co Kentucky.  Could they have been cousins and she the daughter of Michael Barlow and Rebecca Pyburn.

Any help would be appreciated.  Both the Brumfield line and Daniel Barlow family are my family lines.

I have collected every Barlow I can find and some I can't find in order to someday put this tree together.  What I can't find is my ggggrandfather Leason T. Barlow, a somewhat prominent man who is buried possibly without a headstone in the Lexington Kentucky cemetery ... somehow I have also heard that he is not there; it is some other LT Barlow.... don't ya love it. I have actually been working on this family tree for about 20-22 years on and off at times. When I was younger and the older members were still alive they would not tell me certain very important information that now finding out has helped solve at least a few of the puzzle pieces.

I have information from my grandmother that Henry W. was born in Virginia and that his people were from Devonshire, England. Since her grandfather Robert -Henry's son- lived with her all his life I believe this to be accurate. The records I looked up at the local Family History Center say he was born in Bourbon Kentucky 1801 which would tend to hook him up with the "Parlur" Barlows. Does anyone recognize him from this scanty description?   He married Ann Watt in northern Alabama in 1834.

I am a descendant of Christopher Parlur/Barlow via his son Adam's line -Adam's son Enoch. Barlow Family 1717-1984 by Jewell Colliver of Cave City, Kentucky, whose wife was a Barlow and descendant via Adam's son Ambrose, and from the a note that also quotes from The Barlow Story from 1717 by Mary Margaret Lettleton Wolf. Henry Barlow was born to Jacob Barlow and Mary Fleshman in about 1758 in Culpepper, Virginia.  This particular part of the Barlow family appears to have gone to Rockingham Co Virginia.   Jacob and Mary also had three other sons, Lewis -born 1755, Christopher -1757, and John -1770. Henry -1758  married Jane Marshall on November 5, 1782, in Rockingham County.   She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Marshall and died around 1815....her will was proved on December 12, 1815 in Washington County, Kentucky.  Henry died in 1809; will on December 11, in Washington County.

Henry and Jane had children:

James - born September 28, 1783, Jacob - February 26.1785...died in 1862 in Johnson Co Indiana, John W.  - November 11, 1786, Elizabeth - October 22, 1788, Sarah  - October 30, Jesse - January 01 1792, Henry  - November 1794, Julius Milford - August 24, 1796, Joel - November 23, 1798, Nancy - March 07, 1801, Margaret "Peggy" - February 1803, James  - February 10, 1814.

The trail takes the various family members to Washington and Barren counties in Kentucky, to Indiana and to Illinois.

Barlow - Harbison connection I have an Ann Barlow who married Moses Harbison in 1789 in Culpeper Co Virginia. Between 1810 and 1812 she -as a widow- moved her family to Barren Co Kentucky. Would you have any information re Ann's parents?  I know that on the 1810 Barren Co Kentucky census an Ambrose Barlow is listed so he must be a relative. In 1820, there was a Joshua and a Robert T. Barlow in Barren Co Kentucky. Thank you for any help you may give me.

I am interested in a Sarah BARLOW who married Thomas SIMMONS in -probably- Halifax Co Virginia in 1825.  Thomas SIMMONS was the eldest son of Benjamin SIMMONS and Martha 'Hood' SIMMONS. Evidently Thomas received 73.5 acres from the US Government 21 March 1828. He was in Bartholomew Co Indiana so I assume the land was in Bartholomew Co.  Don't know the reason for the land grant. Perhaps Thomas received it in lieu of his father, Benjamin, who may have fought in the War of 1812.  Benjamin died 20 September 1825 in Kentucky.  Probably Pleasant Run, Hardin Community, Washington Co Kentucky. I know nothing about Sarah before she married Thomas.  Sarah died 25 March 1846 in Bartholomew Co Indiana.   She and Thomas travelled from Virginia through Kentucky -Washington Co-  where their first child, Martha was born. --Martha was Thomas's mothers' name.  2nd child, Priscilla;   3rd Mary Ellen; 4th Benjaman Franklin --Thomas's fathers' name was Benjamin-;  5th Missouri /Melissa; 6th, John Wesley; 7th Thomas -middle name Henry?-

I would appreciate any information about Sarah BARLOW prior to her marriage to Thomas SIMMONS.

Note from Susan:  I find it interesting that a Nancy Barlow married Thomas Simmons on August 25, 1824 in Washington Co Kentucky.  Could Sarah and Nancy be the same person?

Walter Clyde Barlow.... with family ties to Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, and Kentucky..... My granddad's name was Walter Clyde Barlow. He drifted into northeast Missouri about 1919. He was called Billy, he says because when he was little he was "called Little Billy because tagged along after Big Billy," so we assumed his father was William. When my oldest sister was named Julia, he said that was his mother's name. He said he had people "around Peoria" Illinois. His kids knew he had been in jail when they were little, after years of searching my mother got record from IOWA!!! where he spent 3 years in prison (long family story about how he was framed by his wife's father and brother to break up the marriage) and that has some information he reported to them at the time (about 1928, I believe) He was born January 1884, Sedalia, Missouri, his mother born in Indiana, died about 1920, father born Kentucky, died about 1900. Someone sent me census information for the family of Joshua and Julia Barlow, youngest child is Walter C. born 1887 Missouri, older son William, Joshua born Kentucky, died after 1900, Julia born Indiana, died 1928 (however, granddad left the family about 1919 and had no further contact with them, so to him she may have "died" then). Joshua and Julia lived in Peoria area most of married life. I strongly suspect these are my family. I've hunted a little bit and found some on the children, marriage, moves, etc., and Walter is never mentioned after 1900 census, as if he separated from the family, as my granddad did. My dad and his sisters can't recall him ever mentioning any names of family members, but they were small when family broke up (one aunt not even born yet), and later didn't have much to do with him as adults, except my dad took him in for while before Walter died, but dad was working and Mom couldn't get much out of him, just what I mentioned. He had dark complexion, and dark, kinky hair, and nose became more much more prominent with age, same for all the kids (we call it "that Barlow nose" as it's in our generation also)

I am looking for information on: Benjamin Franklin BARLOW b. 1828 KY married Elizabeth WALKER. His parents are John BARLOW and Nancy BEALL. His siblings are Martin, Kiziah, Sam, Elizabeth, Joshua, James & Martha. According to Benjamin's daughter, Benjamin and family settled in Cynthiana, Harrison, Kentucky. I don't know if this is where Benjamin's parents & siblings were. I found a query in the Barlow of Barlow newsletters indicating that they could have been in Nicholas County or present day Robertson County, Kentucky.  In 1849, Benjamin and family moved to Fulton County, Illinois. They then settled in Pike County, Illinois about 1860 on the boundary between Pike & Brown County, Illinois.

Benjamin's children were:

Tabitha Ellen BARLOW b. 26 Dec 1849 d. 14 Jan 1938 married Darius William INGALLS in Pike Co Illinois

Mary Francis BARLOW     Andrew BARLOW     Mat BARLOW

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
