| SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES 27 February 1937 Copy of Original Contributed by John F. Barlow REV. JOHN E. BARLOW Jesuit Educator Suffered Stroke in Philosophy Class CINCINNATI, Feb 26 - The REV. JOHN E. BARLOW, Professor of Philosophy at Xavier University, died at Good Samaritan Hospital here today after a short illness. He suffered a paralytic stroke while lecturing before a class in logic last Wednesday afternoon. His age was 66. Father Barlow was born in Detroit and had been a member of the Jesuit Order for forty-three years. He recieved the degree of Doctor of Philisophy at Fordham University. |

WALTER BARLOW DETROIT- May 14 - COLONEL WALTER BARLOW, for thirty years chief assistant corporation counsel of this city, died today of pneumonia in Henry Ford Hospital. He retired two years ago. His age was 86. Colonel Barlow was a sergeant in the Spanish-American War and served with the National Guard on the Mexican Border in 1916. He was a past commander of Detroit Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans. He leaves a widow, two sons and three daughters. |

HAZEL ELLEN BARLOW, 53, of 743 Steenard road, a resident here since 1910, died suddenly Sunday afternoon at Bronson hospital. Born Oct. 20, 1892, at Ft. Wayne, Ind., she was married Nov. 11, 1911, to EARL R. BARLOW, who survives. (see next) Mrs. BARLOW had been employed the last 20 years as an inspector at the Shakespeare Company. Survivors, other than her husband, are five brothers and two sisters, CHAUNCEY BARNES, CHESTER BARNES, WILLIAM BARNES, JOHN BARNES, BLAINE BARNES, MRS. ELSIE WEBSTER, all of Kalamazoo, MRS. PAULINE SEELEY, Oxford, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. |

Mr. Barlow was born March 07, 1887, in Fargo, N.D., the son of EDWIN and IDA [LEWIS] BARLOW and had been a resident here for 50 years. He had been employed as a machinist with the Fuller Mfg. and was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Fuller Mfg. Co. His wife HAZEL passed away in 1946. (see above) Mr. Barlow is survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, CHESTER BARNES, CHAUNCEY BARNES, JOHN BARNES, BLAINE BARNES, MRS. ELSIE WEBSTER and MRS. PAULINE SEELEY; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday at 1 o'clock at the Langeland Memorial Chapel, Pastor Louis W. Grother, of the Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel. |

LUCITA 'CITA' HAMM BARLOW of Grosse Pointe Farms, who dedicated her life to her family and caring for the critically ill at Cottage Hospital, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995, at Henry Ford Continuing Care Center, Roseville, of Alzheimer's disease. She was 72. Born in London, Mrs. Barlow met her husband, the late JOHN R. BARLOW, while they were serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. After immigrating to California from England, she later moved to Grosse Pointe Farms, where she has lived for the past 35 years. She worked for 10 years in the intensive care unit at Cottage Hospital, and served 20 years on the Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, including one term as president. She is survived by a daughter, JUDY COLLINS; a son, JOHN; a sister, MYRA ARMSTRONG; and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 20475 Sunningdale Parkway, Grosse Pointe Woods. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Cottage Hospice, 23000 Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, Mich. 48080. |

She was the wife of the late ERNEST BARLOW. Born in Cumberland, the daughter of the late CHARLES E. and MARY (MCNULTY) COLLINS, she was a lifelong Cumberland resident. She was a graduate of Bryant College. Mrs. Collins was the oldest member of the Arnold Mills United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the North Cumberland Grange. She leaves three daughters, MARION SHEPHERD of Cumberland, BARBARA CALLAHAN of Raynham, Mass., and PRISCILLA PATTON of Downers Grove, Ill.; two sons, ERNEST BARLOW of Cambridge, Md., and RALPH BARLOW of South Kingstown; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late MICHAEL HASTY. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, 690 Nate Whipple Highway. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. |

Mrs. Barlow was a seamstress, quilter, knitter, and former bowling lanes manager. She was predeceased by her father, JOHN S. BARLOW; daughter, ELIZABETH ADANI; sister, BETTY BARLOW BOISVENU; and grandson, MARK. Surviving are children, JEFFREY ADANI of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., KEITH (KIRSTEN) ADANI of Bridgman; mother, BERTHA L. She was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Detroit. Mrs. Barlow worked for more than 10 years as a masker for X-Cel Industries, Hazel Park. She was predeceased by her husband, ROBERT, on Aug. 29, 1984; and a son, ROBERT, in 1982. BARLOW (REESE) BETTIE CHRISTINE BARLOW (REESE), 84, a 50-year resident of Madison Heights, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. She was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Senath, Mo. Mrs. Barlow used to work as a secretary for Chrysler Corp. She was a wonderful artist who liked video poker, travel, country music and reading. She sold war bonds during World War II and loved to be with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her family says she was the best mom and homemaker; she was also a friend to everyone. Surviving are her husband, THOMAS W. BARLOW, whom she wed Aug. 8, 1946, in Napoleon, Ohio; children, JOAN (ROBERT) LYONS of Troy, JERI (WILLIAM) PAPPAS of Bloomfield Hills and JANNET (JOHN) MARSHALL of Ferndale; daughter-in-law, KATHLEEN BARLOW; sisters, HORTENCE (the late ORVILLE) BALLARD of Dearborn and EMAGENE (the late RAY) SULLINS of Detroit; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, JAMES, and a brother, LANDELL REECE of Detroit. Visitation, 3-8 p.m. today, Price Funeral Home, 3725 Rochester Road, Troy; in state, 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of funeral, noon, Calvary Baptist Church, 24520 N.
