Can anyone share any information on John B. Barlow and Leannah
Key?
I have seen information showing them married on
July 08, 1890 Panola Co Mississippi (from numerous web-sites including
LDS) however; the name that is listed for that date is James Wilkie
Barlow and Jeanie Keys, 2 years prior to their daughter Martha
being born.
I have Martha's death certificate and her youngest son is still
alive however has no further information. Martha's parents are
listed as John B. Barlow and Leannah Key.
I am positive Leannah died in 1911, Memphis Tennessee and I have
her, John B, and daughter Martha on a 1910c.
I am trying to connect Leannah with Mary Ann Duncan. On the burial
permit for Potters Field, Memphis Tennessee, it lists her mothers
maiden name with the initials of "D K" (possibly Duncan/Key
or a first name initial and last name initial?)
If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it. I have
been searching for such a long time for these two illusive members
of my family.
Note from Susan: I don't know where the
marriage record for James Wilkie Barlow and Jeanette Keys comes
from, but I have 2 James Wilkie Barlow's in my family, however both were born later than yours would be. I have a John Wilkie Barlow who married Jennie V. Hutchins in 1923. Strange coincidence!

I am very much interesting in getting in touch
with you about the Barlow family. My major genealogy interest is
in McKenzie, Monroe, Buie, McPherson, and McFatter. Just recently
we discovered a letter, written in 1833, from Malcolm Buie back
to Robeson Co North Carolina relatives. In this letter he mentions
a Margaret (Monroe) who apparently visited Barlows in Alabama.
She stayed 12 months with them and while there visited with a Hector
McKenzie and family. She was fetched home by A. McKenzie's son,
John. All these folks were from Robeson Co NC and all came "west" around
the same time (1810-1812/14) The McKenzies settled in Greene/Perry
Co Mississippi and there are Barlows there also.
In the letter he also mentioned that "one of Barlows sons
is a Methodist Preacher, his name is Daniel, I think" Also
he says, "one of his daughters married a Methodist preacher
living in the Choctaw."
Do you have any idea if these Barlows are related (in any way)
to any of the families listed above? I would be happy to send you
a copy if you would like to see it. Apparently, if not related,
they knew each other very well.
John Barlow and a Brient Barlow are listed in
the early tax roll and 1816 territorial census of Greene Co Mississippi
(same place the McKenzies and Monroes are at that time)

Travis Wilson 14 September 2002
My name is Saraphia Travis Wilson. My father is John Dean Travis and is the
son of Quinnie Barlow Travis (married Hardy Travis). I visited the "Descendants
of Nichols Cicero Barlow" only to find some very incorrect information.
Quinnie Barlow Travis (my grandmother) is NOT
DEAD. She did not die after 1993, she lives right next door to
me and although she now suffers from Altzheimers Disease she is
still very much alive. Additionally, her children are John Dean
Travis (who married Norma Jean LeBeouf), George Travis (who married
Sonja McCranney), Eugene Travis (who married Linda Bergeron and
then later Estelita) and Billy Travis (who married Louise). John
Travis had two daughters the eldest being Sandra Travis Allen and
the youngest is me! George Travis has two sons the oldest is Jeffrey
Travis and the youngest is Timothy Travis. Eugene has three children
and two step children (Gregory Travis, Angel Travis, Brad Travis
and Sheranda Travis and Reuben Travis) and finally Billy had three
children Jeremy Travis, Adina Travis and Jonathan Travis. Billy
and Louise lost there oldest son Jeremy in a boating accident on
the lake at Angola, were they both worked and lived for years.
Adina was married to Ronnie Porche and did loose a beautiful little
girl named Amber. Adina is now re-married.

Ida Mae Belk (1907 - 1970) married an (Unknown) Barlow. She
is buried alone in Carson Ridge Cemetery just east of Ethel, Attala
Co Mississippi. Does anyone know her husband, if they had children,
where he is buried, etc.
Answer recieved in April 2010 from gladiasked@yahoo.com: Someone was asking about Ida Mae Belk and her husband, last name Barlow. Ida Mae was my paternal grandmother. Her husband's name was Elmo Barlow. They lived most of their lives together in Monroe, La. I do not know when Elmo died or where is is buried. Ida Mae was married to my grandfather, Louie Belk.
They divorced in the late 40's or early 50's. Her maiden surname was Woods.
A loose chancery document has been found in Southampton Co Virginia
that identifies Drury /Drewry Parker and Mildred Clanton's daughter,
Susan/Susannah/ Sukey as the wife of John Barlow. I know nothing
about Susannah Parker Barlow except that she moved to Georgia.
She was born between 1769 and 1789

Sarah Barlow was born about 1765 and died May 28, 1858, her maiden
name is not known. She married John Barlow, it is not known when
he was born, but he died about 1840. No info on them other than
Sarah was Indian and was born in Virginia and she may be buried
in Bullock Cemetery, Covington Co Mississippi. One child
that I know of, Isley Barlow; born 19 February 1795 and died
15 February 1847. He married Silas Bulloch about 1810.
Sarah and John were my gr4 grandparents. I have some information
if needed about the life of Sarah in her last years.

I am interested in Ilsey /Isley Barlow...aka Tadder.. who was married
to Silas Bullock in Georgia abt 1810, and later removed to Covington
County Mississippi. It seems everyone has hit the same wall with
Isley and Silas.
The only additional information I have is the oral tradition passed
down by my grandmother, Virginia Mathis Hooks; she said that Isley's
parents were full blood Choctaw.
John Barlow, born in North Carolina, and Sarah, born in Virginia.
If they were born in NC and VA, I don't believe that they would be
Choctaw. Even if you take into account the extent of land that Virginia
claimed in those years, they would be more likely Cherokee than Choctaw
assuming that they were indeed Indian.
As for Silas, I have no parent's identified and have only the birthdate
and place of birth from the census records. However, the census records
do seem to conflict with other extant records as to place of birth.
1850 says Mississippi, other records -and grandmother- indicate North
Carolina.
Note from Susan:
Is the Isley ..aka.. Tadder Barlow mentioned the same as "Suki" listed
in census records of 1850 Covington Co Mississippi? This
record shows a Sarah Barlow, aged 85, born in Virginia to live
in the household, and my assumption would be that she is the mother
of Suki ..or perhaps of Silas.. she having been married to both
a Bullock and late a Barlow.
Another thing I noted is that the step children of Silas in the
household have Pittman as a surname; this would indicate to me that
Suki had previously been married to a Pittman.
I do find an Ava Barlow married to a John Pittman in Georgia, 1837,
but that family has been traced thru 1860 in Georgia, and then to
Arkansas.

I am looking for Lemuel G. Barlow. He would have been born around
1840 in Mississippi and moved to New Mexico before it became a state.
He married Mary Smith, whom it is believed to have been born May
30, 1849 in San Marcos, Texas. Lemuel and Mary were in Lincoln Co
New Mexico during the days of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett and the "Lincoln
County War."
Lemuel left New Mexico to go search for gold in Colorado in 1879.
Mary was pregnant at that time, and Lemuel may or may not have known
that. Mary filed for divorce in Lincoln County and married Walker
Whitfield Paul. A son was born on January 29, 1880, and was named
William Walker Paul. Birth records were not kept at that time,
so we have had to rely on family records, and census.
My research has proven that W.W. Paul, Jr. was in fact a Barlow,
though he carried the Paul name. I'm not sure if he was born
in New Mexico or Texas, as the next records we find on Mary and W.W.
Paul show them to be living in Weatherford, Texas.
Might anyone know who the parents of Lemuel are? Or where in Mississippi
he was born?

My great-grandmother was Susanna Magee, daughter
of John Magee and Martha Barlow. I'd had trouble finding her
lineage. He was the son of Tobias Magee, and they married in 1828.
Note from Susan:
I feel sure
Martha Barlow will be one of my family. Many of my Barlows intermarried
with Magees and their families .. and many of them went to Louisiana.

I need help finding a full record of the following:
Copiah Co Orphans Court December - 1825
Fanny Keef is appointed Guardian of the orphan children of Thomas
Barlow: Sarah and Louise Barlow.
Passports issued by Governors of Georgia ...thru Creek Nations
to Mississippi Territory....
Two passports are known to be my family, but the following passport
has not been proven.
November 13, 1811:
That a passport be prepared for the following persons to travel
through the Indian Nations to the Western Country, viz -for
a bunch of Brown's- and one for Messrs. Thomas Franklin and THOMAS
BARLOW, the former with his mother, four brothers and five
sisters, all from Richmond Co South Carolina
We think this may be a son of John and Lydia, but we are not sure,
as we do not have any other records indicating Thomas as a son....but
the passports prepared for John and Bryant earlier never showed
them to have brought the rest of the family ... so we think this
may be them......
It has also been said that this may be the Thomas Barlow who lived
in Lousiana and was killed in the War of 1812.
Can anyone verify this Thomas Barlow's lineage?

I’m looking for information on Ruth Pace, John Joseph Pace
Barlow-White Cloud -we think he was born before Ruth married Billy
White Cloud- and Billie Ruth Barlow-White Cloud. Billie Ruth lived
at the Ashley Hotel, in Manhattan, New York City, married to William
Moncrief in the 1950’s. The family lost track of her there.
Rumor has it, she was gunned down in a gang battle between 1958-1965.
I have no proof of this today.
Her maiden name is BARLOW-WHITE CLOUD. She married
Horace Blackstock of Mobile, Alabama in 1942, living in the Dr. Parish
Bed and Meal House in Midland, Alabama, then left him in 1944 to
go to New York.
She married William Moncrief, who was older then her. She changed
her name to "Gail" Blackstock or Moncrief. She was an entertainer,
singing in Nightclub’s in New York during this time.
She is originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where she was born
on February 23, 1925. Her mother was Ruth Pace married to Dr. Billy
B. Barlow-White Cloud, an Indian Medicine Man.
Ruth Pace Barlow died in 1932 in Philadelphia, Mississippi on the
Choctaw Reservation.
Billie Ruth and her 1/2 brother, John Joseph "Jack" Barlow
were placed in the St. Mary Orphanage in Nashville Tennessee from
1936 - 1941.
I have been unable to trace her whereabouts. They had a cousin by
the name of Mary Verlee Dunn, who lived across the street from them
in Hattiesburg, as children, but I can’t find anything on her
either.
If anyone out there knows how I can do this, or knows anything about
this, please e-mail me or call (717) 843-3081. Your help is greatly
appreciated.
Note from Susan:

I found in Alabama Death Index: B. Barlow Whitecloud
died 03 Oct 1953 Franklin Co Alabama # 41- 20182
Seeing that families
tended to intermarry with brothers and sisters of neighboring families,
it could be used as a clue to finding more about Suki & to find
out if indeed she was a Barlow prior to marriage, if a record can
be found.
I would consider also finding where the Bullock family were living
in 1860. Sarah Barlow has surely passed on by the time of the 1860
census, so she would not be found in census indexes while searching
for Barlow, therefore, I have no record of Silas and Suki after the
1850 census.
I surely would be interested in hearing any outcome of searches
done on this family though, as I have always wondered if they might
have some ties to my Barlows in Mississippi, thus giving me clues
of our roots prior to Mississippi.

I am researching my Youngblood ancestry and have come to a dead
end at THOMAS BARLOW YOUNGBLOOD (b 13 Feb 1808 in Mississippi,
d 21 Mar 1860). He married ELIZABETH HAMMONS. Thinking that Barlow
might be a family name, I started searching in that direction.
I came across an unnamed daughter of THOMAS BARLOW (b 1761, d
1813) of Isle of Wight, Virginia. She married JAMES YOUNGBLOOD
of Edgefield, Georgia. Does anyone have any information on this?
Could they be the parents of THOMAS BARLOW YOUNGBLOOD?
