David Berry and Rebecca Vines

David Berry  2  (John1)   was born between 1770 - 1775 in South Carolina, and died 1833 in Rankin Co Mississippi.

*
      He  married  Rebecca Vines

I am unsure as to where Rebecca was living in 1840, but in l850, Rebecca is  living with her daughter, Mary, and husband,
Daniel D.  Webb   in Rankin Co Mississippi.  There were surely other children we know nothing about, that she was living with.

*
In 1820, David and Rebecca were enumerated in  Covington Co Mississippi
They  lived  in Simpson Co  from about 1822-1828.   They then removed to Rankin Co, where David died about 1831 or
1833.   He  and Rebecca are said to  be  the first  to be buried in the  Sutton-Berry  family graveyard.   The cemetery  is
about 2 miles  off the  highway in  the woods  between  Florence   and Brandon.    There are no stones on their graves
but the dates were supplied from  printed records of their  families ..... this information was submitted by Miss Mary J.
  Berry in 1946
Rankin County Historical Society book has the children of

Messages  from the internet message boards,  give  reference to a  David Berry,  being an Indian interpreter,  but I do
not know if  this is  our David  or not.   The  family  mentioned  by Janet,  does  not  appear to  be ours,  though another
researcher  disputes this.  Does anyone have a proven connection to this David?

  Janet White
Does anyone have any information on the David Berry  who served as Indian  interpreter in Mississippi Territory.   Or
the David  or John  Berry who  lived  in  Washington Co Alabama, then Texas,  (where I believe John died)  and  back
to Alabama? I believe one of the boys married a Mizell. Supposedly  they were born in Pascagoula, Mississippi.  This
is all heresay and rumor from older family members.  The first David would have been in Mississippi Territory around
the 1790's. The others would have been born about 1825 or so.

David  Berry  and John Berry are  brothers and  both are the children of William Berry, Sr. and Henrietta.   David Berry
came to Adams Co Mississippi in 1802 from North Carolina.  He removed to Wilkinson Co, Mississippi in 1816.  John
Berry  was with  other  brothers were  William  Berry,  Presley  Berry,  Anderson Berry and Garrett Berry.   All came to
Wilkinson Co Mississippi in 1804 from Warren Co Georgia.  John Berry removed to Jefferson Co Mississippi.

Another researcher makes the following claim:
The David Berry, interperter to the  Indians is a brother to John Berry and GERMAN Berry.    THEIR FATHER IS A JOHN
Berry.   John Berry and German Berry descendants refer to them as the Simpson Co Mississippi set even though they
  are wide spread.
*
Known children of David Berry and Rebecca Vines are:
2 i. German Berry3   born 1806 in South Carolina, and died October 17, 1882 in Freestone Co? Texas
3 ii. Thompson Vines Berry   born January 05, 1808, and  died April 12, 1854 in Rankin Co Mississippi.
4 iii. Sarah Berry  born June 09, 1811, and died 1837 in Rankin Co Mississippi.
 5 v. Mary Berry  born 1817
*
 2. German Berry  3  (David2, John1)    was born c1806 in South Carolina, and died October 17, 1882 in Rankin Co Mississippi,
burial in the Berry-Sutton Cemetery, near Florence, Rankin Co Mississippi

           He married  Colon "Mary" Boggan
The daughter of Joseph Boggan and Sarah 'Sally' Carraway, she was born May 23, 1814 in North Carolina, and died
July 24, 1849  in Rankin Co Mississippi, burial in the Berry-Sutton Cemetery, near Florence, Rankin Co Mississippi

Mary  Boggan's sister Louisa C. Boggan, married Major Benjamin J.F. Sutton;  the family cemetery  is named for him
as well as for the Berry family.

In  the 1860  Rankin Co census,  an  Elizabeth Berry, age 44,  is living in the home with Joseph  and  Sally Boggan as
well as several McCaskill children, and a John Jinkins, age 78.

If  anyone should be interested  in the  Caraway family, I have a small  amount of  data that I extracted  from Simpson
Co records and from records of the Archibald Caraway family graveyard.

1880, German is living in Freestone Co Texas, where his  will was written and published.

I am told that German next married  Elizabeth "Betsy" Boggan, a sister of Mary's, who had prior been married to a
McCaskill.    She was born 1817, and died 19 July 19,  1882.
*
I found Elizabeth McCaskill, age 34 with her McCaskill children in the 1850 census of Rankin Co living with
her parents, Joseph and Sally  Boggan, and  also, Louisa Berry,  age 3, whom I believe to  be a  daughter of
Mary and German.    I cannot locate German anywhere in the U.S. on  the  1850 census, nor any of his other
  children.                                                         Census Image

In  1860,  I find German living with  his  children, and Elizabeth, now a Berry, is still living with her parents,
her age is 44, and most of  her McCaskill children are also still there, as  well as  a 7 year old, Susan,  also
shown to be a  McCaskill  in the census, but  I assume that  was a census  taker  error.
