After studying this family carefully thru census records, I believe that Mary was listed as E. Allen in the 1850 Marion Co Mississippi. Apparently she died before1855, when on January 23, Thomas Allen married Mary S. ____ Edmondson in Marion Co Mississippi. She had previously been married to T.J. Edmundson.

| 142 i. | John T. Allen5, born c1849. In the 1880 District 2, Carleys, Marion Co Mississippi census from Family Search Organization, he is listed as J.T. Allen, he appears to be living alone, his age 31, a farmer, and is still single. A marriage record in Marion Co Mississippi shows a John T. Allen marrying Lizzie Wiley on February 12, 1889. John's age was 40, which would be the correct age for this John. However, in the 1910 Marion Co Mississippi, census record, his age is shown as 60, he is a widower, and in his home is a 25 year old daughter, Dixie. That would leave to question whether Dixie is his child, or a step-child, since the marriage only took place 21 years before; if Lizzie was indeed his wife; or if he had been married previous to Dixie. A copy of the 1900 census might answer some of these questions. |
