Mary Berry  and  William Gardner
**
Mary Elizabeth Berry 3  (John2, John1)   daughter of John Berry and Elizabeth Polk was born about 1795 in South Carolina,
and died before 1860, probably in Marion Co Mississippi
*
       She married  William Charles Gardner
The son of William C. Gardner and Mary 'Polly' Crosby, he was born c1792 in South Carolina, and died February 03, 1873 in
       Marion Co Mississippi
*
William C.  and  Mary E. Gardner  settled  near  Bassfield,  Covington County Mississippi  (now Jefferson  Davis  Co)   and  raised  a  large  family.
William  and  Mary  Gardner were for many years associated with  EbenezerBaptist Church  in Covington Co Mississippi,  a church in which Edith Berry, Mary's mother had been a founding member.
According to Ebenezer Baptist Church records of Covington Co, William was
dead by  September 1872,  when the membership list for the year was made.
I  do know of  times when  tombstones are  made  years after  the  death of a
loved ones, and dates are mistaken; this may be one of those times.

I have no idea who the Berry children might be, but wonder if they might be some of the children
of German and Susannah Bailes Berry, whom I was unable to locate in any 1850 census.

I am not  sure who Henry is, he is surely not  William and Mary's  son,  he would have been  born
c1845,  and is  not listed in  either the 1850 or 1860 census - perhaps he is a grandson.   Nor do I
know who the Bolan family might be.

The  Edmundson  children in the 1860 census  are  children of  T.J. and M.S. Edmundson, who live next door to William
Gardner & Thomas Allen in the 1850 census.  He was age 35,  and a school teacher, M.S. was age 17.   Their only child
at  that  time  was M. Edmundson,  female, age 11 months.    I wonder if there is a relationship to this family  ..  or were they just neighbors.

4. William Wilkin Gardner, Jr.   born April 08, 1829 in Marion Co Mississippi, and died July 12, 1895 in Simpson Co Ms
He married  1.)  Mary Ann Gardner, in 1869, Simpson Co Mississippi.  His first cousin, the daughter of German Howard Gardner & Emily 'Milly' Walker, she was born 1845 in Simpson Co Mississippi, and died March 14, 1888 in Simpson Co Mississippi.

He married 2.)  Sarah Catherine Randall, daughter of Jack Randall.  She was born February 1862 in Mississippi

Wilkin served first in the Westville Guards of the 16th Mississippi Regiment, organized September 18, 1860.    The West- ville Guards were the only Simpson County soldiers who fought at Gettysburg.  Since Wilkin was then in Co H, 27th Regt from Feb-June 1862,  it is  unlikely he  fought at  Gettysburg, however.    He was then  in  Co H,  6th  MS  Regiment, CSA, Private; discharged at Vicksburg in 1865.  The changes of regiments probably were  because he had a leg broken twice during war and  was  sent  home to  recuperate  each time.  (The information about the leg was found by  Sally Patterson while doing research in the Simpson County Courthouse.)
