MEMORIALS |
The church has been the recipient of many memorials and donations through the years, to name a few, the table in the foyer is in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson (Lillie Mae) Barlow, the communion table in memory of Mrs. Annie Bishop Thompson, the pulpit chairs in memory of Deacon David Ashley, the lighted stained glass window in the Baptistery in memory of Helen Douglass Thompson and Herbert Bufkin, the pulpit podium and many pews were installed in memory of long gone members and families. Shirley Givens and Ernest Simmons, Jr. made a nice donation in the memory of Deacon Vernon Simmons. The Bishop-Bufkin Reunion that gathers at the church annually has provided us with many improvements. The handsome planter box sign was erected, they also gave the monetary donation to have a well bored, plus many other projects through the years. The Fellowship Hall has been dedicated to honor Harold (Jackie) Davis for his talents in building and finishing the hall with the help of the men of the church. The brick arch over the entrance to the cemetery was dedicated to the memory of Helen Douglass Thompson, for her faithful service as Secretary-Treasurer of the Antioch Memorial Cemetery fund from 1977- 1995. The future of this church will stand on the decisions that the church members make to glorify the Lord in serving him in all ways. |
FIRST WEDDINGS |
In the early days weddings were performed in the brides home with the festivity and a bountiful dinner the next day in the home of the groom, which was known as "infare". Times changed and now most weddings are performed at churches. The first wedding to be performed was in the summer of 1891 when Miss Theodosis Robinson was married to Mr. Benjamin James. Miss Robinson was the daughter of Mr. George and Celia Ann Bufkin Robinson. The first formal wedding to be at Antioch was on July 21, 1958, at 7:30 p.m. when Miss Betty Rose Hennington was married to Mr. Ralph Beach. |
