Homecoming at Antioch Baptist Church

Each year the first Sunday of August is set for a gathering of those who are left to come home for a great fellowship and visiting. It is a great day for the spirit throughout the day is wonderful. The time when hurt could and does come into our hearts for those who are missing is erased by the smile of the faces who come and are so happy to be with those who were able to come again.
The collection on this special day goes into a "Cemetery Fund" and enables those who do not come regularly to have a part in keeping the cemetery in good condition.

Many, many unmarked graces and graves known only to the families lie in the gates of Antioch Cemetery. Some are marked by iron stakes and some with sand stones with no inscriptions.

The cemetery was started long ago when a caravan of carnival people passed through the country and sickness struck. They camped in this area and one of the travelers died. Big san rocks were used to build up around the grave about three feet. There is an inscription on a stone inside these rocks, but is so old, it is unreadable. It surely is a conversation piece.

It may be said of these as was said by a noted ancient Hebrew sage: "Their bodies are buried in peace, but their names lives in all generations."
"The past has its store of joys we remember

--- The future is ours undefiled ---

Let us carry our weight with courage of men,

But proceed with the trust of a child"
