Services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, in the Fellowship Baptist Church near Converse, with the Revs. Dan Jones, H. M. Prothro, and George L. Glass officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home. Survivors include four brothers; J.F. Burkett of Pollack, E.W. Burkett, and J.J. Burkett, both of Converse, and N.L. Burkett of Bossier City.

Shirley Beech Lynch writes: Apparently Jerry and Rachel Ann did not talk to each other for many years. According to a daughter of Uncle Otis, Ina Faye 'Bufkin' Fant, Rachel Ann would fix Jerry a plate as he sat down at the head of the table. Then she would sit down next to him and they would eat in complete silence. The night he passed away, he asked Rachel to come in to see him, he wanted to tell her something. She refused. Their sons said they should have 'dragged' her in there. Rachel was not very healthy and always had something wrong with her. When her father and mother, Hiram and Martha Ann decided to get a divorce, it was not a hard decision for Hiram to leave Rachel with her mother. Since she was sickly, he did not want the bother of taking care of her.

Seeing that many of this Bufkin family married into the Grantham family, I feel sure there will also be a relationship between the Granthams and the Martha Hosey. Perhaps more light will be shed as we begin working on the Grantham family lineage.

Grandma raised chickens and sold the eggs. She always bought her chicken feed in pretty colored sacks. She used to give me three sacks alike to make a dress every once in a while. She took her egg money and put it in the top of a chiffarobe, which she locked and took the key with her everywhere in her apron pocket. She had her apron pocket pinned with a safety pin to keep from loosing the key.
She always kept a lemon cake baked for Sunday dinner. She kept the cake in the refrigerator and this chilled cake was so good. Mother would not allow us to take but one small piece so I never felt that I had enough of this delicious cake!
She hid her key to the house under a flower pot on the porch then left a note for Grandpa telling himwhere the key was. We never quit teasing her about this.

Times were so hard for Isaac, he took out an insurance policy on a trunk full of blocks as he was taking a trip on a train, hoping the trunk would get lost in transit. When the trunk did not get lost, he set the train station on fire to collect the insurance money. He spent seven years in prison.

According to stories by Ina Faye Bufkin Fant, daughter of Otis, related to us by Shirley Beech Lynch:
Otis died at George County Hospital following a long illness. He was a resident of Glen Oaks Nursing Home, and was retired from the Mississippi Highway Department. A member of Agricola Baptist Church, a mason, a member of the George County Election Commission. He served on the George County Board of Supervisors from 1959 to 1967.
Otis fell and injured his spine as he was going to the bathroom in the dark. He was completely paralyzed for seven years before he went into the rest home. His brother, Isaac came to visit and asked him if he had accepted Christ as his savior, and he replied that he had not. Isaac went to the church and had the minister and other members of the church come frequently to visit Otis. He finally decided he was ready to accept Christ, but he wanted to baptized. The minister pondered over what to do until he decided to wrap him in a wet sheet, pour more water on the sheet and baptized him that way. Otis was completely satisfied that he had accepted Christ.
