John Douglas, Sr. was born October 04, 1764 in North Carolina, and died November 09, 1839, burial in New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi

He married Nancy Walden Denman, daughter of William Walden. (Does this mean she was married previously to a Denman, seeing her father shown to be a Walden)

2. John Douglas, Jr., born c1787 (1850 census), or c1798 in South Carolina (1860 census)  and his wife was probably named Sarah.  (from researchers, perhaps the Sarah who appears to be in the Isaac Newton household of the 1850 census)

A Sarah Douglas, age 63 is listed just above John, shown as a member of the Isaac Newton family.  Is she John's wife?

Sarah Douglas married John Lambert in 1840   (If this is the same Sarah as in the 1860 census, she would have been 5 at the time of their marriage)

4. Ransom Douglass was born August 09, 1805 in Franklin Co Mississippi, and died May 23, 1883 (LDS) or June 05, 1889, (Rootsweb) in Copiah Co Mississippi, burial in New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi 

He married Anna / Annise Smith about 1834.  The daughter of Eli Smith and Mary 'Polly' Maxwell, she was born May 18, 1822 in Lawrence Co Mississippi, and died January 14, 1887 in Lawrence Co Mississippi.  (This family extracted from LDS and Rootsweb, with census records to verify)

4. Elisha P. Douglass was born June 09, 1814, and died September 01, 1900, burial in Shiloh Baptist Cemetery, Lawrence Co Mississippi

He married 1) Nancy Davis September 25, 1837, daughter of Zaborn Davis     (so who is Mary in the 1850 and 1860 census?)
He married 2) Adaline Louise /Laura Collins February 03, 1879   (one record shows that she had previously been married to William Conn)

Elisha P. Douglass, Jr., born c1838 in Mississippi.    E.P. is enumerated at home with his parents in July 1860, then in September, he is shown as a student, age 22, enumerated with the W.B. Brewer family in Lawrence Co Mississippi.
He married E.L. (I was not able to find any record of her full name)
I find them in 1870 Lawrence Co Mississippi, with a daughter, H.E. Douglass, age 4 mo, and a boy, J.A. Johnson, age 8.
I could not locate them in 1880
I find in 1900 Lincoln Co Mississippi, a widow, Elizabeth, born November 1840, age 59, borned 6 children, 4 living, Eugene, born April 1881, age 19 is in the home, and an E.P., born October 1878, age 21 is living a few doors away with wife, May,  I feel these are probably E.P.'s family 

Sicily Ann Douglass, born March 30, 1845 or 1849 in Copiah Co Mississippi, and died April 05, 1899 in Copiah Co Mississippi, burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Lincoln Co Mississippi.
She married Nichols Cicero Barlow on May 10, 1871, Lawrence Co Mississippi. The son of Henry Buck Barlow and Miranda Hayman, he was born December 25, 1845 in Copiah Co Mississippi, and died May 08, 1925 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co Mississippi, burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Lincoln Co Mississippi.

21. William C. Douglass, perhaps a grandson, was born July 1853.

Rebecca Elizabeth 'Betsy' Douglass, born c1843    I have been told that she, too, is a daughter of Elisha and Nancy, though she is not in any census that I can tell.
She married Albert Gallatin Mahaffey.  The son of John T. Mahaffey and Mary Lowe, he was born March 28, 1854.

Martha Edaline Douglass, born October 12, 1884 in Lawrence Co Mississippi, and died February 1959, in Jonesboro, Jackson Parish Louisiana, burial in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, Jonesboro, Jackson Parish Louisiana
She married Dallas Mahaffey Barlow on December 24, 1901 in Lawerence Co Mississippi. The son of Christopher Columbus Barlow and Mary Jane Mahaffey, he was born July 16, 1876 in Curry Place, Utica, Hinds Co Mississippi, and died May 07, 1964 in Jackson Parish Louisiana, burial in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, Jonesboro, Winn Parish Louisiana.

6. Martha A. Douglass, daughter of John Douglass, Jr., was born December 03, 1809 in Georgia, and died September 08, 1887

She married 1) James M. Stanfil July 22, 1828.  The son of Isaac Stanfil and Miss Gordon, he was born March 18, 1808 in Tennessee, and died April 30, 1854 in McComb, Pike Co Mississippi.

Martha married 2) John Felder

I can't help but think that E.C. Tatum is a daughter of Martha and James Stanfil, but can't figure out which one

She married William Jasper Barlow January 27, 1853 in Copiah Co Mississippi

8. Martha A. Douglass, daughter of Ransom Douglass and Annise Smith, was born March 17, 1840, and died July 10, 1916, burial in Segrest Cemetery, Brandywine, Claiborne Co Mississippi

She married David Templeton Segrest on February 19, 1858, The son of Jacob Segrest and Sarah Trevilion, he was born September 10, 1833, and died August 18, 1912, burial in Shelton, Claiborne Co Mississippi.   He had been married previously to Martha Crews or Davis.

Sarah / Sallie E. Segrest, born c1865, and died 1942, burial in Rehobah Cemetery, Barlow, Copiah Co Mississippi

9. George W. Douglass, son of Ransom Douglass and Annise Smith, was born January 30, 1841 in Copiah Co Mississippi, and died August 04, 1904 in Wesson, Copiah Co Mississippi.

He married Sarah Jane Allred on April 13, 1862 in Copiah Co Mississippi.  She was born June 01, 1844 in Copiah Co Mississippi, and died May 19, 1901 in Wesson, Copiah Co Mississippi.

23. Martha Elizabeth 'Mattie' Douglass, born April 13, 1864, and died February 28, 1928 in McComb, Pike Co Mississippi.

Thomas Daniel Segrest.  I did not locate him in 1900.  In 1910 Jefferson Co Mississippi, Thomas D., age 37, and wife, Betty, age 28, have been married 5 years, and have no children.  In 1920 Jefferson Co Mississippi, Thomas D., age 47, lives with his wife, Bettie, age 40, no children.

I did not locate them after 1900, but found an Albert B. Douglas, born July 1875 in Texas, both parents born in Mississippi, living in Navarro Co Texas, who may be his son.  Several other Douglas in Navarro also.

13. Samuel Jasper Douglass, son of Ransom Douglass and Annise Smith, was born c1849-50, and died after 1920.

He married Rachel Ann Varnado on August 17, 1864 in Copiah Co Mississippi.  The daughter of David Varnado and Catherine Hartley, she was born c1849, and died after 1920.

John Clem Douglass / twin, born January 1869.   Clem is in the 1900 Copiah Co Mississippi census, with wife, of 1 year, Annie, no children, his age 31, born January 1869.  In 1910 McComb, Pike Co Mississippi, Clem, age 40, and Annie, age 30, married 8 years, his second wife, and had no children.  Several boarders in the home.   I did not find them in the 1920 census. 

14. Richard Calvin Douglass, son of Ransom Douglass and Annise Smith, was born December 27, 1851, and died December 20, 1928 in Big Springs, Howard Co Texas, burial in Dermott City Cemetery, Dermott, Chicot Co Arkansas.

He married Martha Ann Varnado. The daughter of Howell Newton Varnado and Assenth Elizabeth Davis, she was born November 06, 1852, and died May 22, 1920, burial in Dermott City Cemetery, Dermott, Chicot Co Arkansas.

Mary Ida / Ida May Douglass, born May 12, 1872, and died January 11, 1951
She married Andrew Jackson Short, Jr. The son of Andrew Jackson Short Sr, and Mary Jane Kelly, he was born January 29, 1865, and died May 12, 1899.
Children are: Lina M. and Fannie Gertrude Short

28. John Calvin Douglass, born September 16, 1875, and died October 1969.

Walter Ransom Douglass, born May 12, 1890.  In 1920 Chicot Co Arkansas, Walter, age 29, is living with wife, Cornelia, age 31, no children, and a house full of lodgers.

15. Isaac N. Douglass, son of Ransom Douglass and Annise Smith, was born May 1861, and died 1934 in Copiah Co Mississippi

I.N. Douglass married Lida Chiles on June 15, 1882 in Copiah Co Mississippi.   She probably died before 1889, at which time, I.N. Douglass married Ada B. Chiles, March 21, 1889 in Copiah Co Mississippi

In 1920, Isaac is in Bolivar Co Mississippi, living with his daughter, Lucille and her husband, Robert M. Mallette. Shown to be married, his age 55, but Ada is not enumerated in the home, nor was I able to locate any of the other children, except Isaac P.

Lucille Douglass, born October 1883.  She married Robert M. Mallette, and in 1920 Boyle, Bolivar Co Mississippi, he age 55, and she, age 36, had 2 children, Robert D., age 7, andf Del M., age 5.  Her father was also in the household. 

Isaac P. Douglass, born September 1886.  In the 1920 census of Hazelhurst, Copiah Co Mississippi, his age is 32, his wife, ____Omega is 35, and he has a 2 year old daughter, Cristine Douglass.

16. Norvel R. Douglass, son of Elisha P. Douglass and Nancy Davis, was born c1850

He married Nannie L.   I could only find them in the 1910 census.

18. John Alexander Douglass, son of Elisha P. Douglass and Adeline Collins, was born January 15, 1880.

He married Maude V. - maiden name unknown.  I could not locate them in 1910

19. Matilda Jane Stanfil, daughter of Martha Douglass and James M. Stanfil, was born November 11, 1836, and died July 25, 1887.  (I cannot find her in 1880)

She married 1) John Newton Barlow January 27, 1853 in Hazlehurst, Copiah Co Mississippi, a brother to William Jasper Barlow, above. John N. and William Jasper Barlow married Matilda and Mary Stanfill in a double wedding 27 January 1853. Matilda and John had no children, as he died in 1854, soon after their marriage.

She married 2) George L. Lester Decell August 05, 1855 in Copiah Co Mississippi.  The son of George Jasper Decell and Rebecca C. East, he was born June 13, 1832, (1900 census says December 1831), and died 1909.  He had previously been married to Louisa Matilda Barlow, daughter of John Barlow and Mary 'Polly' Millsaps.

After Matilda's death, George married 3) Ellen O. Mason on November 20, 1894 in Copiah Co Mississippi.   

Matilda was admitted as a member of the DAR because she registered herself as the descendant of James Barlow, a Revolutionary Soldier....and true, he was, but Matilda shows him as married to Polly Millsaps...and lists the children of Polly and John Barlow as those of James and Polly .... this information is incorrect, Mrs. Decell was mistaken, as we have not been able to make a family connection to the afore mentioned James Barlow ....and what's more, James was deceased before most of the children of Polly Millsaps and John Barlow were born.

Melissa E. Decell, born January 1857, and died February 03, 1933.
She married Bartlett Smith on June 16, 1880. The son of Bartlett Smith and Mary Minerva Davis, he was born May 10, 1877 in Lincoln Co Mississippi.

Mary Callie Stanfil, born November 1866.  In 1900 Pike Co Mississippi, Callie is in her 2nd marriage, this one to William Hodges, age 35, married 1 year, she has borned 2 children, both living, her age 33.   Children are Lee and Lillie.

21. John David Segrest, son of Martha A. Douglass and David Templeton Segrest, was born December 11, 1867, and died October 04, 1912, burial in Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Claiborne Co Mississippi

He married Nettie Clarcy Bridger  on December 14, 1885 in Mississippi.     The daughter of  John Dixon Bridger Jr and Mariah Nesmith, she was born September 1869

In 1880, John, age 18, was living in the home of Orela B. Rives in Brandywine, Claiborne Co Mississippi.

Bridger David Segrest, born August 30, 1886, and died November 20, 1970
He married Anna Lucia 'Lucy' Clark    They raised and later adopted at the age of 18, Cornelia Bridger (Segrest), who was the biological daughter of Cornelius Nesmith Bridger and Lollie Mae Young.  Cornelius was a brother of Nettie Clarcy Bridger.

22. Robert Adoniram Segrest, son of Martha A. Douglass and David Templeton Segrest, was born July 31, 1880, and died October 31, 1931 in Port Gibson, Claiborne Co Mississippi

He married Susie / Ibbye Scott on October 26, 1904.    She was born about 1883, and died October 31, 1971.

In 1900, Robert A., age 19, born July 1880, was enrolled in University of Mississippi in Lafayette Co Mississippi

He married Margaret Garcia.  She was born March 06, 1921, andd ied November 22, 1973.

23. Martha Elizabeth 'Mattie' Douglass, daughter of George W. Douglass and Sarah Jane Allred, was born April 13, 1864, and died February 28, 1928 in McComb, Pike Co Mississippi, burial in Hollywood Cemetery, Pike Co Mississippi.

She married John Quitman Middleton on December 24, 1878 in Copiah Co Mississippi.  (Official marriage records show 1878, but it appears they did not marry until 1880, from census records -- which also makes me wonder where Martha was in 1880)    He was born August 1859, and died after 1920.

Sarah Jane Middleton, born July 1885, and died September 1938, burial in Hollywood Cemetery, Pike Co Mississippi.
She married Robert Major Jones, Sr. on September 10, 1907 in Pike Co Mississippi.  He died before 1910, and they had one son, Robert Major Jones, Jr.

27. Letha Lenora Douglass, daughter of Richard Calvin Douglass and Martha Ann Varnado, was born April 27, 1874, and died November 26, 1908, burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.  

She married William Wilson Furr on December 23, 1892.  The son of Christian Lafayette Furr and Amelia Melvina Smith, he was born August 08, 1871, and died October 23, 1935, burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.

Thomas Leroy Furr, born April 24, 1898, and died April 17, 1966 in Veterans Hosptal, Jackson Mississippi.     He married Lorine McFatter on September 08, 1921
