He married Ann Carolyn Gibson June 28, 1834 in Claiborne Co Mississippi. The daughter of Robert Gibson and Ann Caroline Baker, she was born c1817 in Missouri or South Carolina, and died July 07, 1892 in Brandywine, Claiborne Co Mississippi.      I could not locate Ann in 1860 or 1870.

Information from the book   'A Brief History and Lineage Charts of the Goza Family in America; 1637-1980' by Joe A. Goza, published 1983. Mr. Goza is now deceased.

Ann Carolyn Gibson name comes from the obituary found by Marlene Wilkinson, author of the Westrope book

Sarah Jane Goza, born c1838 in Mississippi, and died in 1916, burial in Serepta Methodist Cemetery Claiborne Co Mississippi.
She married Thomas L. Rush July 26, 1855 in Claiborne Co Mississippi.  His dates of birth and death are not known, though he too is buried in Serepta Methodist Church Cemetery in Claiborne Co Mississippi.

5.  John Gibson 'Uncle Gip' Goza, born May 16, 1840, and died February 04, 1887.

Christopher Columbus Goza, born c1842.    He married Carrie Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Vickers on July 20, 1870 in Claiborne Co Mississippi.     He and Lizzie were the parents of four children, 3 known:   Mattie, Christopher P., and Charles B. Goza

Served as Regimental Color Sergeant in the Van Dorn Guards, Co B 38th Regiment. The Guards fought at Corinth, Iuka and Vicksburg. After the war, he purchased Woodlawn Plantation on the Willow Springs Rd. north of Port Gibson. The charming plantation house of two and a half stories was still standing, though in bad repair in 1976.   Woodlawn was sold in 1912.    Reference: Mississippi-Louisiana Border Country - Baton Rouge: Claitors, 1970   pages 211-212 under Headly

Laura E. Goza, born c1844 in Mississippi. She apparently died young, as her children are in her mothers home in 1880.
She married Samuel P. Sorrells on December 14, 1859 in Claiborne Co Mississippi.
Known children from 1880 census:  M.E. (daughter), S.P. (son), Ellen V., Albert S., Ann, and Isabella Sorrells.
I could not find them in an 1870 census to further identify the children.

5.  John Gibson 'Uncle Gip' Goza, son of Hiram Washington Goza and Ann Carolyn Gibson, was born May 16, 1840, and died February 04, 1887.

He married Mary Eliza Austin on August 1866 in Claiborne Co Mississippi.   She was born April 1852.

According to Katy McCaleb Headly, Claiborne Co Mississippi, 1976:  02 Jul 1863, wounded in action, Van Dorn's Guard, at Vicksburg - served in both the Port Gibson Rifles and the Van Dorn Guards during the Civil War
I could not find them in an 1870 census

I did not locate Mary in a 1910 census, but believe I found her in 1920, in the home with her widowed daughter, whose name is illegible.  Benjamin also in the home, but the age doesn't work.  You make the decision.

6.  Joseph Baker Goza, son of Hiram Washington Goza and Ann Carolyn Gibson, was born October 24, 1845, and died April 14, 1892 in Barlow, Copiah Co Mississippi.

He married Mary Ellen Lord January 03, 1867. Mary was born in 1850 and died in 1943, burial in Rehoboth Methodist Cemetery, Barlow Copiah Co Mississippi
They had 11 children, 9 named here.         Mary Ellen Lord married second to Mr. Martin, no children were born to that marriage.

In 1920, I find a Mary E. Martin, age 68 in the State Insane Asylum, Hinds Co Mississippi that is probably her. Remember, in those days, it did not mean a person was 'crazy' to be in there. They may have dementia, or any of several other illnesses, for which the public did not accept them.

Benjamin S. Goza, son of Joseph Baker Goza and Mary Ellen Lord, was born August 03, 1887, and died March 1963, in Copiah Co Mississippi.
He married Mary Ina / Iva Barlow after 1920.  The daughter of Samuel Henry Barlow and Sarah Louella Pitts, she was born July 14, 1907, and December 31, 1978.   Samuel is the son of William Jasper Barlow and Mary A. Elizabeth Stanfil.   Ben and Mary are both buried in Bethesda Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.
They had no children.

He married 1) Emmaline Margaret Bufkin January 14, 1867.  The daughter of Harmon Bufkin and Elizabeth Barlow, she was born December 12, 1849 in Copiah Mississippi, and died September 07, 1887 in Copiah Co Mississippi, burial in Antioch Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.

Kathryn Watkins writes in 1974:  'Grandpa was a very small man who had three loves --- Uncle Hiram, the Methodist Church, and fishing.  In middle age, he sold his flourishing Copiah Co farm and moved to Mexia, Texas. Because his son Hiram was not happy there, he came back to Mississippi and opened a drug store in Brookhaven.   In 1908, he removed to Magnolia, where he formed BF Goza and Son, a mercantile firm, with his son Hiram.'

She married Reuben Barker Jones, Jr. about 1866, a veteran of the Civil War. He was born September 14, 1842, the son of Reuben Jones and Ann Strother, and died in June 1927, burial in Serepta Methodist Cemetery, Claiborne Co Mississippi.     I could not find them in an 1870 census.   

25.  Ellen Andella Jones, born August 10, 1872, and died January 17, 1944, burial in Vickland Cemetery, Sharkey Co Mississippi

11.  Hiram Washington Goza, son of John Gipson Goza and Mary Eliza Austin, was born October 27, 1876, and died November 28, 1968 in Union Church, Jefferson Co Mississippi, burial in McBride Cemetery, Jefferson Co Mississippi.

He married 1. Ida Rollins on July 03, 1900.  She was the daughter of John R. and Mildred Rollins.                I could not find Hiram in 1900. 

He married 2) Sally Ruth Berry, c1904.    The daughter of John Berry and Sarah Carraway, she was born February 98, 1885, and died April 29, 1952.

He married 3) Ella Jones after 1952.

13.  Clarence Benton Goza, son of John Gibson Goza and Mary Eliza Austin, was born August 14, 1881.

He married Minnie, in 1901. She died before 1920.

In 1920, Clarence, age 38, a widower, is in Memphis, Shelby Co Tennessee, along with his daughter, Ethel, age 17, boarders in the home of Harry J. and Florence Catlett.

14.  Henry Virgil Goza, son of John Gibson Goza and Mary Eliza Austin, was born December 11, 1887.

He married Claudine Abbott    She was born October 26, 1892, and died December 15, 1969.

15.  Hiram Baker Goza, son of Joseph Baker Goza and Mary Ellen Lord, was born November 13, 1869, and died August 08, 1941.

He married 1) Laura Janet Daniels on December 28, 1890 in Claiborne Co Mississippi.  She was born October 1872, and died before 1914.

He married Hattie Lillian Barlow, c 1905.  The daughter of John Newton 'Tucker' Barlow and Alice Clorina Goodson, she was born February 24, 1889 in Jefferson Co Mississippi, and died May 10, 1968 in Copiah Co Mississippi.   John was the son of William Jasper Barlow and Mary A. Elizabeth Stanfil

In 1910, Sidney was 27, married 6 years, living in the home of Burnie Tomas in Lincoln Co Mississippi.    I was unable to locate Hattie in any census.

17.  Frances Marion6 Goza, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Goza and Emeline Bufkin, was born November 22, 1869 in Copiah Co Mississippi, and died March 31, 1933 in Magnolia, Pike Co Mississippi.  

She married 1) Joseph Casey Campbell c1890.   He died in February 1896 in Fayette, Jefferson Co Mississippi
I could not find Frances or her children under the name Campbell or Bufkin in any census after 1900 when she was a widow in her fathers home.

Herman P. Furr died at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at the family residence, 2260 North College Street. He would have been thirty-five years old November. He had been ill for the last two years, suffering from lung trouble, and for the last nine weeks had been confined to his bed. Mr. Furr was born in Claibourne County, Miss., Nov. 2, 1890. He had resided in Decatur for the last thirteen years. He and Miss Dora Adams of Decatur were married Dec. 28, 1910.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Thelma, Odella and Johann Furr. He also leaves his parents , Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Furr of Hollandale, and four sisters, Miss Ethel Furr and Mrs. Bonnie Conn of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Eunice Jones of Crichton, La., and Mrs. Iva Bates of Hollandale, Miss. He was the oldest of nine children. Before his illness he was in charge of the laundry department at the Decatur and Macon County hospital. He was a member of the Second United Brethren Church. The body was removed to the Brintlinger & Sons undertaking establishment and prepared for burial.

ARCOLA - Hugh Gordon Furr, 87, retired service station owner / operator, died of heart failure Monday at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home with burial in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. Mr. Furr, the husband of Gladys K. Furr, also leaves two daughters, Myrtis Mosley of Greenville and Teresa Greer of Hollandale, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
