GEORGE BROWN HILTON4, (Thomas Norvell3, William2, Mr.1) son of Thomas Norvell Hilton and Sarah Garraway, was born March 04, 1848 in Mississippi, and died September 01, 1928 in Mississippi.

He married MARY ELLEN 'ELLA' BARLOW, c1871, daughter of Narvle Barlow and Elisabeth Byrd.  She was born November 03, 1845 and died June 22, 1917.  Both are buried in Rexford Methodist Church Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi

In the death of GEORGE B. HILTON, the Methodist Church at Star, Miss., lost a good and useful member and Rankin County a most highly esteemed citizen. Brother Hilton was born March 4, 1848, and died Aug. 31, 1938. He was 80 years, 5 months and 37 days old. This long life was almost all lived in Rankin County. He joined the methodist church when young, and was a regular contributor to her progress. On my last visit to him he expressed his interest in the church to Brother Applewhite and myself. During the war between the States he served in the Confederate army. He took pride in this and was always present at the soldier reunions if at all possible. Brother Hilton was married to Miss English. She and her only child died in a few years. On Sept. 7, 1871, he was married to Mrs. Ellen Bell, who was, before her marriage, Miss Barlow. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom still live. Mrs. C.E. Welch and Mrs. C.B. Steen married Baptist ministers; Mrs. M.H. Jones is the wife of our own beloved M.R. Jones, of the Mississippi Conference. Mmes. Geo. Kelley, H.L. Miller, Tom Morgan, and W.D. Wallace are the other daughters; T.M. Hilton, an only son, lives in Texas. A large crowd assembled in Rexford church, Sunday, Sept. 1, in expression of love and appreciation of this quiet and useful life.
After a service conducted by his pastor and others, his brother Masons bore his body from the church and planted it in the cemetery near by, to await the resurrection. There is no wrath to the righteous; what seems so In transition(?): for "death is swallowed up in victory."

Chaplain Col. Joseph W, Jones, U.S. Army Retired, age 85, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004. He was born in Raleigh MS on September 23, 1918 to Rev. Matthew Russell Jones and Evie Lena Hilton Jones. He graduated high school at Leaksville, MS in 1936 and began his college education at Whitworth in Brookhaven, MS before being drafted to the U.S. Army. After WWII, he transferred to Southern Methodist University in Dallas and received his B.A. Degree. He completed his B.D. Degree at Perkins School of Theology in 1950. During his long and distinguished military career, Col. Jones received the Silver Star, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart with Cluster and the Good Conduct Medal. He also received the Honor Medal First Class from the Republic of Vietnam. He retired from active military service on March 31, 1975 and from Mississippi Annual Conference in May 1975. He was presented the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America for work with the scouting program in the Transatlantic Council BSA. One of his last assignments before retiring was Post Chaplain at Fort Sam Houston from 1973-1975. He enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting and wood carving. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Agnes M. Jones; sons, Joseph Michael Jones and his wife, Babs, Franklin R. Jones and his wife Jane; grandchildren, Michael Jones, Jennelle Thomas and Craig Thomas. The visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Windcrest United Methodist Church, 8101 Midcrown with Rev. Greg Hackett officiating. The Interment with Military Honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. The family requests no flowers be sent, but that friends make memorial contributions to Windcrest United Methodist Church, 8101 Midcrown, San Antonio, TX 78239, To leave a message for the family, please log on to www.mem.com. Mrs. Hilton was a native of the Mt. Olive area and moved to Dallas, Texas in the late 50's where she settled. She married William Hilton on October 1, 1955. She enjoyed traveling, music, and most of all spending time with her grandson.
She is survived by her devoted husband, William Hilton of Richardson, TX; two sons, Mark Hilton of Shady Shores, TX and Mike Hilton of Garland, TX; one grandson, Luke Hilton of Shady Shores, TX; two brothers, Harold Brown of Mt. Olive and Fred Brown of Richland; one sister, Sue Bogan of Mendenhall.

Wilma Alliston Steen, 91, formerly of Florence, died June 3 at her residence.
Funeral services were held June 6 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, with burial in Smith Cemetery at Hickory Ridge.
Mrs. Steen was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her hobbies included quilting and tending flowers in her yard. She loved children and enjoyed having them visit her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M. Steen.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Brown and husband Floyd of Purvis; sons, James Steen and wife Patsy of Richland, Melvin Steen and wife Lucille of Florence and Alton Steen and wife Faye of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
