I.D. Hilton Succumbs at 87
Isaac Daniel Hilton died at his home in Logansport on Monday at 3:20 p.m. after a long illness of several months. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Bethel Methodist Church with the Rev. H.T. Isgitt of Converse and the Rev. L.C. Scott, pastor of the Bethel Church officiating.
Interment was in Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home of Mansfield.
The body lay in state at the Caraway Funderal Chapel in Logansport until service time. Pallbearers were: Roy Creech, Jimmy Wheless, Lamar WIlliams, Leon Hilton, Coy Hassell and Odis Edwin Grantham.
Mr.
Hilton, a native of Mississippi had lived most of his life in this
area, except for several years in Shreveport, where he was a member
of the police force. In his long active life, he had
been a sawmill worker, a
farmer and an employee of Gulf Oil. His parents
were pioneer settlers in the Bethel Community and co-founders
of the Bethel Methodist Church. Mr. Hilton was the oldest
member of the Bethel Church, which
had been his church for seventy years.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Lela Westmoreland Hilton of Logansport. Two sons, M.A. Hilton of Galveston, Texas and T.E. Hilton of La Canada California, and one sister, Mrs. D.P. Grantham of Logansport. Four step-daughters, Mrs. Frank Covone, Mrs. Ray Brozovic and Mrs. Reba Ricketson, all of Chicago and Mrs. J.E. Lane of Sour Lake, Texas; two step-sons, Ted Westmoreland of Beaumont, Texas, and Norris Westmore- land of Lucedale, Mississippi; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives in Shelby County, DeSoto and Sabine parishes.
