  Mr. D.P. Mahaffey, 96, of Florien,  died in a Shreveport hospital, 
  on Monday,  December 12, at  8:55 p.m., following an extended
  illness.

  Survivors include his 2 sons, W.J. Mahaffey of  Florien, and C.D.
  Mahaffey  of  Converse;  three daughters,  Mrs. Estelle Mains of 
  Florien,  Mrs. Delphine Mixon  of  Shreveport, and  Mrs. Ella  V.
  Salter of Bossier City; a sister,  Mrs. Liza Chance of  Hornbeck;
  28   grandchildren;  51  great  grandchildren;  and  4  great-great
  grandchildren.

  Funeral  services were  held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church on
  Wednesday, December 14, at 2 p.m.  The Rev Avon Cavanaugh
  officiated.    Burial was  in  the  Ebenezer Cemetery,  under  the 
  direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.

  and Edith Marie Maines of  Leesville; one sister, Delphine Mixon

  Ms.  Mahaffey,  who  succumbed  to  cancer  April  24, 2001, is
  preceded in death by  her spouse Bill,  and their eldest son Billy.

  Survivors include 5 daughters, Ruth Nyberg of DeRidder, Natalie
  Doyle of Singer, Evelyn Prewitt of Florien, Alwin Craig of Florien, 
  and Mary Ochiltree of  Toledo Bend;  two sons, Lonnie Mahaffey 
  of Wiggins, Mississippi, and  Robert Mahaffey of Chauvin, along
  with 23 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

  Services were officiated by Bro Kenneth Leach of Beulah Baptist
  Church, and Bro. Wilton Anthony of Siloam Baptist Church, with
  a loving farewell rendered on behalf of the grandchildren by Scott
  Prewitt of DeRidder.

  In  accordance with  her final wishes,  Ms. Mahaffey's  body had
  been  transported  to  LSU  Medical  Center  for  research,  with
  remains to be returned for interment at Ebenezer Baptist Church
  Cemetery at a later date.
