< I can't help but think the census taker got off a line with the England and Wales record, but then, I have always told Columbus was a joker.  I don't think those records reflect true origins.

I was unable to locate Jane in the 1900 census.  She may have either remarried or be deceased

Johnny Shelby Barlow, Jr., 92, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at his home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Barlow was born in Utica in 1912, a fifth generation Mississippian. He graduated from Utica High School and attended Hinds Junior College before entering the Army. He served as a Captain and Company Commander during World War II, chiefly in the South Pacific Theater, including Guadalcanal and Hawaii. After the war, Mr. Barlow served as a Hinds County deputy sheriff, and later became the founder of Barlow's Boats and Motors, which operated in Jackson for over two decades, and was a founding shareholder of Safe Harbor Marina. He became a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason in 1951 and was a Master Mason of Capitol Lodge 600 in Jackson. He affectionately became known to his younger neighbors as the "Mayor" of Turtle Creek, where he held court in his driveway almost daily. In 2002, Mr. Barlow was honored for his accomplishments by an official proclamation of then-governor Musgrove.
Mr. Barlow was married to the late Julia Lilley Barlow.
He is survived by his children, Zandra Nowell, Twila Vantrease, Johnny S. Barlow, III, and Chuck D. Barlow; sister, Virginia Estes; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1300 West Capitol St., Jackson, MS 39203.

Fred and Jubie were first cousins, both grandchildren of C.C. (Lum) Barlow.   Fred carried mail in the Utica area, first by horse, then later by car.
Mrs. Louvinia Scott Barlow of Route 3, Utica, Miss., better known as Jubie to most, celebrated her 93rd birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Barlow, Jackson, Mississippi. As loved ones arrived, I saw love and joy, heard much laughter, memories of the past, not forgotten, was shared with one another. Also tears were shed as cards were read expressing the love they had for Ms. Jubie. I myself experienced much joy in my heart and I want to thank each of you for sharing and making this day a very special one for Ms. Jubie. God Bless You.

Those attending were daughters Vera McBride of Utica, Inez Gardner, Pensacola, Florida, son Clayton Barlow, Jackson, Miss. Grandchildren Terrisa McBride, David and Myra Barlow. This is only a portion of a note found in a notebook kept by Clarence Barlow, apparently written in memory of his wife,  Rebecca.

Her writing. God Bless her. She was one amongst many. The purest and truest in ten thousand. True to God and man was sanctified and filled with Holy Ghost in spring of 1920 near Floral City, Fla. Sister D.B. Lewis assisted her. Her experience grew Brighter untill Jesus called her Home.

She was to frail for this world. He will rise at the first trumpet sound. God grant that I may meet her there.

Clarence Barlow Rites November 26 
Funeral services for Clarence (Todd) Barlow, 89, were held at 3:00 pm Saturday, Nov. 26 from the Glenwood Chapel in Utica, with Rev. Ray Wilson and the Rev. Travis Pugh officiating. Burial was in the Utica Cemetery with Glenwood Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Barlow died late Thursday afternoon at Hinds General Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Orlando, Fla., and was reared in the Lickskillet community west of Utica. He was a former resident of New Orleans, Natchez, and for the last five years, he had lived in Jackson. He was a retired employee of Illinois Central Railroad and was a member of the Magnolia Nazarene Church.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Stevens Barlow of Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. Vada Nell Johnson of Pearl; a son, J.V. Barlow of Utica; a brother, W.A. Barlow of Natchez; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles O. Bryan, Archie Evans, Buddy Scott, Clayton Barlow, A.C. Scott, and W.I. McManus.

VIOLET BARLOW, born June 27, 1910 in Sontag Mississippi, and died February 15, 1919 in Pineola Florida. 
A bear scared her on the way home from school is what she said, but apparently the illness was deeper. She died from spinal meningitis.  She had become sick in September, the doctor didn't make his rounds in Lucedale until Oct 2, 1913.  She would not eat,  her grandmother, told her that the cat couldn't eat, that she would have to chew his meat for him.  That is the only nourishment she got.  When she died, her body had drawn backwards.  Her father massaged her til  her body became straightened after she had died.   Violet's school teacher was Vada Allen, for whom Vada Nell was named.  Burial: Greenwood Cemetery

Farmers are unique people, and history tells us that it's hard to get them down.

This is true today in Mississippi, where the cattleman has had to deal with lower prices and surpluses on one hand, and skyrocketing production costs on the other.

To cope with the depressed condition of their industry, many farmers have had to mix technology and innovation with diversification.

A good example of the small family farmer who has rearranged his operation to best suit the times is J.V. Barlow of Utica.

Barlow farms 154 acres of land and maintains a herd of over 100 Black Angus. When the price of feed shot up and the cattle market dropped, Barlow, rather than abandon his cattle operation, set about to improve the quality of his herd. He reclaimed a useless old gravel pit, filled it in and planted a pasture.

To supplement the income he hasn't made in cattle under the current situation, Barlow has done selective cutting of his timber, and in cleared areas, he has planted Bahia grass.

The Barlow's also produce wheat, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes, and maintain a garden for family vegetables.

Two lakes on the Barlow place have been opened to the public for fee fishing.

The management of Barlow's Angus herd has also become more important and steps have been taken toward culling unproductive cows. Barlow obtained a registered Black Angus bull of superior stock through the bull lease program sponsored by his bank, and the positive effects have already been seen. Heavier, higher quality calves are being produced. The higher quality calf brings more money at the sale and costs the same to produce as calf of poor quality.
