Nathaniel Green2 Barlow (John1), son of John Barlow and Lydia Bryant, was born July 06, 1813, probably in Mississippi, and probably died before 1870 in Mississippi.  He was the son of John Barlow and Lydia Bryant, and the twin to George Washington Barlow who married Flora Byrd, who is possibly a a sister or cousin to Nathaniel's wife, Mary.  Information passed down through the years, has stated that Nathaniel Barlow was buried on the Luther Barlow place, but that a more recent owner took all the headstones up and put them in a ditch, covered them with dirt, plowed over the graves, and planted pasture.   (Note from Susan:  I believe at the time of Nat's death, it would have been the George Barlow place, as Luther was not born until 1889)

Nathaniel married Mary Byrd about 1831-32.  The daughter of George and Susan Byrd of South Carolina, (Memoirs of Mississippi) she was born May 02, 1815, probably in South Carolina, and died October 11, 1909 in Hopewell, Copiah Co Mississippi, burial in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.    Several genealogies show that Eden Byrd and Ann Lee are the parents of Mary Byrd.  I have not found any proof one way or the other, but I theorize that Flora Ann Byrd, wife of Nathaniel's twin brother, George Washington Barlow, is a sister, or at least a cousin of Mary's.  A nephew, Norval Barlow married Elizabeth Byrd, who is also thought to be a sister or cousin of Mary's.

3.  John L. Barlow born November 01, 1837 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died October 14, 1905

Margaret Barlow born 1841, and died before 1891, death information from Memoirs of Mississippi, which lists the living children of Nathaniel and Mary, at the time of its writing, which was 1891. 
According to information left by Ralph Emerson Barlow, she married Gus Watkins.   I thought I had located them in Hopewell, Copiah Co Mississippi in 1880, William A. Watkins, age 42, married to Margaret, age 40, and a son, Benjamin, age 19, living only a few doors from Frances M. Barlow.   However, in checking Family Search, and Rootsweb World Connect, I find that William Augustus 'Gus' Watkins married Margaret Conn c1859, and had children Benjamin A. and Nannie A. Watkins; Nannie married 7. France M. Barlow.  Margaret Barlow was the same age as Margaret Conn, and I now believe Ralph was in error in his findings.   I have not seen proof that William's wife was Margaret Conn, other than in various gedcoms, with gave no documentation, but I assume this is family knowledge.  Gus and Margaret are also both living next to Frances and Nannie Barlow in the 1880 and 1900 census records. In 1910, they live with Nannie, and they are listed as her father and mother.  In 1920, Margaret, a widow is living with her grandson, Cecil Barlow.  Does anyone know the parents of Margaret Conn?

Lydia Barlow born 1843 and died before 1891, death information from Memoirs of Mississippi, which lists the living children of Nathaniel and Mary, at the time of its writing, which was 1891.
She married Will Bell, and had at least one probable child:  20.  Mary / Mollie E. Bell.    I could not locate Will or Lydia in any census records.  Mollie will be traced as a child of Lydia and Will, and you will understand better why I believe her to be their child.   If I am correct that Mary / Molly E. Bell is their child, I believe Lydia may have died prior to 1870, at which time, the child, at age 4 is living with Lydia's brother, George W. Barlow.

Mary Jane Barlow born 1845 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died before 1891, death information from Memoirs of Mississippi, which lists the living children of Nathaniel and Mary, at the time of its writing, which was 1891.
She married a Berry, according to the 1880 census, where she is age 35, living with her brother, George Barlow.  I have traced lots of Berry's, but have not run across this one.  If anyone can help with this family, I would really be interested.  He probably died prior to 1880, and they probably had no children.

2.  Susan Elizabeth3 Barlow was born July 08, 1833, and died April 29, 1904. 

She married Thomas Calvin or Caswell Gatlin June 30, 1853 in Rankin Co Mississippi. (We have a huge conflict with this family, see notes below)  The son of Thomas Gatlin, he was born May 08, 1824 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died April 26, 1903.    Both are buried in Haley Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.

Sources for Susan Elizabeth Barlow:  While I have learned not to trust everything that is written in a book, Memoirs of Mississippi, dated 1891, written by Goodspeed, has a biographical memoir of George Washington Barlow, son of Nathaniel Green Barlow.  In it the person reciting the account states that Susan, daughter of Nathaniel Green Barlow married Thomas C. Gatlin.  Since Susan was still alive at the time of the writing, I would have to think that one of George' family gave the information, and would know it to be correct.
David Rutledge, an attorney in Birmingham Alabama, in a letter dated 1993, says that his grandmother, Harriet Sandifer, daughter of Emeline Gatlin Sandifer told him that her gr-grandmother was Susan Barlow who married Thomas C. Gatlin.   He also said that he had found the official marriage record of Susan Barlow and Thomas Gatlin in Rankin Co Mississippi, but what I find in the familysearch.org is only a record submitted by a researcher. If anyone has a copy of the original record, please let me know. Further, he states that in Susan's obituary of 1904, it shows her mother, Mary Barlow, to still be living, at the age of 84.  I have not seen this obituary, but would love too.
The 1900 census shows for Thomas and Susan shows her mother to be born in NC and her father in MS, which is correct according to NG's census of 1850, however, according to the 1850 census for John and Elizabeth Garraway, they were borth born in SC.
The Barlow's and Gatlin's are both living in Rankin Co, while the Garraway's live in Perry Co.    However, N.G. lived in Perry Co as a child, I believe.

While our records show Thomas and Susan to be buried in the Haley Cemetery of Rankin Co, nobody that I know of has been able to locate that cemetery.  Susan Garraway's family shows their burial in the Barron-Gatlin Cemetery in Whites, Rankin Co Mississippi, where Thomas' brother, Major Gatlin is also buried in an fenced area, but the stone for Thomas and Susan had been broken to pieces by the cows walking on it, thus the family had a memorial stone placed in Clear Branch Cemetery of Rankin Co with Thomas Confederate service on it. 

Ages on the census do not help, as both Susan's were close enough in age to be confused with one another.  Susan Garraway, daughter of John Garraway and Elizabeth, was born c1830, she is shown as Elizabeth in her father's household, age 20 in Perry Co Mississippi's 1850 census.  It seems that none of Thomas and Susan's children are named for either the Garraway or Barlow family, so we can't use naming practices as even preponderance of the evidence.  We need an old Family Bible to perhaps answer this question. 

3.  John L. Barlow was born November 01, 1837 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died October 14, 1905.

He married Emeline Sophronia (Mary E. / Emily) Berry August 03, 1865 in Rankin Co Mississippi.   The daughter of Prior Talley Berry and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Myers, she was born December 09, 1845 and died January 31, 1925.    Both are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.

Louisa / Lue Elizabeth 'Vicey' Barlow, January 1867 ( 1900 census) or March 08, 1871, (family records) and died 1953.
She married William Leovidous Burkett.

Anse Barlow born June 1886, (1888 in 1900 census) and died August 14, 1951, burial Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.  He did not marry.

4.  Rachel C.3 Barlow was born October 04, 1839 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died February 04, 1931.  She married Hezekiah 'Sole' Moran.   Sole was born June 05, 1836 in Ireland, and died May 16, 1887.  Both are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.  Seeing that Rachel was not with her parents in the 1860 census, I assumed she was married at that time.  However, I was unable to locate Hezekiah or Rachel in any 1860 or 1870 census.   Again, I was unable to locate Rachel in 1900-1920.

In 1900, she lives with son, Frances M. Moran   I did not locate her in 1910 or 20.

5.  George Washington3 'Wash' Barlow was born July 04, 1848 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died June 08, 1930

He married Sarah E. 'Sallie' Murray in 1867.  The daughter of Jefferson and Margaret Murray, she was born November 09, 1850, and died September 11, 1917.  Both are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi

Biographical and Historical Memories of Mississippi

George Washington Barlow, a planter, whose post office address is Crystal Springs, Copiah County, Mississippi, was born in Rankin County, in 1848, a son of (Nathaniel) Green and Mary Barlow.

His father, who was a native of Mississippi, was a life-long planter, and married Mary Byrd, a daughter of George and Susan Byrd, who were both born in South Carolina, but removed at an early date to Mississippi.

While living in Simpson County, (Nathaniel) Green Barlow served on the police board.   He bought land in Copiah County, and took up his residence there in 1866.   These worthy people had nine children, the following of whom are living, six in all:   Susan, wife of Thomas Gatlin, of Rankin County; John, of Simpson County; Rachel, wife of Hezekiah Moran, of Copiah County (deceased); Wiley Green, Copiah County, and Francis of the same county.

At the age of nineteen years Mr. Barlow began life for himself on the plantation on which he now resides.

During the Civil War he was for ten months in the Confederate Service, but took part in no general engagements.

He is a member of the Farmers' Alliance and one of the model farmers of the state, having taken premiums as the best farmer in the county. It is no uncommon thing for him to produce fifty bushels of corn per acre on land which a few years ago did not produce more than fifteen bushels per acre.

In 1867 he married Sarah Murray, a daughter of Jefferson and Margaret Murray, of Simpson County, who has borne him four children: Maggie, wife of William Burt, of Copiah County; Hattie who lives at home; Dora, wife of John Slay, of Copiah County, and Luther, who lives at home also.

Mr. and Mrs. Barlow are members of the Baptist Church.

Mr. Barlow is short and heavy set, with closely cut beard and dark hair and eyes. He is a whole-souled and genial man, and is well known to the best citizens of this and adjoining counties.

His plantation is one of the most productive and best appointed in this part of the state.

Hezekiah must be the son of John Wesley Barlow, grandson of George Washington Barlow and Flora Byrd.   I am not sure about Jane Berry. She cannot be George' daughter, thus she must be Mary's daughter.

Whoever gave the census taker the information must have been confused, as these girls have been married quite some time, and are not living in the home. Also, the number of born and living children is incorrect when compared to the 1900 census

22.  Hattie Barlow, born December 23, 1872, and died October 14, 1965 in McComb, Pike Co Mississippi, burial in Hollywood Cemetery, Pike Co Mississippi

Luther J. Barlow born November 1884, and died 1935.
He married Pearlie P. Sandifer November 16, 1903 in Copiah Co Mississippi.  She was born in 1883, and died in 1960.  Both are buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.  Can anyone identify her parents?   They apparently had no children

6.  Wiley Green3 Barlow (Nathaniel 2, John1) was born November 13, 1850 in Rankin Co Mississippi and died June 22, 1905 in Copiah Co Mississippi

He married Elizabeth Ann 'Aunt Betty' Sandifer October 09, 1873 in Copiah Co Mississippi.  The daughter of James Sandifer and Carolyn Young, she was born November 30, 1854, and died April 16, 1920.   Both are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi.

24.  Alice4 Barlow, born June 22, 1875 in Hopewell, Copiah Co Mississippi, and died December 08, 1943 in Meridian, Lauderdale Co Mississippi

He married Nannie / Nanna A. Watkins September 17, 1876 in Copiah Co Mississippi. The daughter of William Augustus 'Gus' Watkins and Margaret Conn, she was born April 29, 1860, and died February 16, 1912.    Both are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co Mississippi

Irma Inez Barlow, born January 28, 1893, death date unknown.
She married her 2nd cousin, Vernon A. Moran, between 1910-1920.  The son of Henry Moran and Madora Alice 'Dora' Slay.  (Henry, the son of #4 Rachel Barlow and Hezekiah Moran), he was born November 16, 1885, and died November 18, 1927, burial in Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, Copiah Co Mississippi.  They had no children.      (1920 census of Copiah Co Mississippi)

Alton Barlow, born May 08, 1901, and died May 06, 1946, burial in Lakewood Memorial Park, Jackson, Hinds Co Mississippi
He married Lois Montgomery.
In 1920, Alton, age 18, is living with his brother, Cecil
