SAMUEL DORSEY BYRD, illegitimate son of Elizabeth Byrd and Judge John Rumbly Enochs, was raised by Susan Byrd after Elizabeth married Narvel Barlow. Sam was born c1843 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died 1917 in Rankin Co, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Florence, Rankin Co Mississippi. (Rootsweb).  Note from Susan:  I have been to an abandoned 'Byrd Cemetery' in Rankin Co Cemetery, and have seen the grave of Samuel and Sarah there, but do not recall the dates. Is this the same as Clear Branch Cemetery?)   Sam's military service:  CSA 6th Infantry Co A, Ms Volunteers

Sam married SARAH BRINSON, on December 03, 1862 in Rankin Co Mississippi, she is the sister of Thomas Brinson who married Elizabeth and Narvel Barlow's daughter, Susan.  Sarah is the daughter of Adam Jones Brinson and Elizabeth Thames, born July 31, 1845 in Lawrence Co Mississippi, and died June 1900 in Rankin Co Mississippi, burial in Byrd-Mitchell Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi  (I believe this is the cemetery that I have seen where Sam also has a tombstone, Susan)

After Sarah's death, Samuel married and divorced 2) LOON / LULA CLINE, apparently a very short-lived marriage. In 1920, she is back at home with her parents, John and Tressie Cline, shown as 24 years old, and a widow.  Note from Patsy Burney:  Sam was married to a Loon Cline for a few months. They had no children. My mother says Loon was a little 'off ' ( forgive me).  She was the sister of his daughter-in-law, Mary Ella Cline and much younger than he!  Dont know what he was thinking.

He married 3) BEULAH DEAR, c1900.  The daughter of John Dear and his wife, Salley, she was born March 27, 1861 (March 1871 in 1900 census), and died October 22, 1955, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi

Obviously there are errors in this census, she is using Sam's initials, so should read, Mrs. S.D. Byrd, and her age is wrong, as well as the fact that she should be widowed

2. JOHN WILLIAM 'BILLY' BYRD, born 1865, (August 1860, 1900 census), and died 1948, both in Rankin Co Mississippi

4. DORSEY GREEN BYRD, born May 29, 1869, and died October 28, 1953, both in Rankin Co Mississippi

THOMAS S. BYRD, born June 1875 in Rankin Co Mississippi.  It appears he was married prior to 1900, but a now a widow, age 24, in the Robert Sebren home, Rankin Co Mississippi, next door to Joe B. Brinson.  In 1910, Tom S. Byrd, was in Rankin Co, age 35, married 1 time, 15 yrs, 5 children born, and 5 living, but the census continued on the next page is illegible.  I was unable to locate him in 1920.

6. SUSAN ALICE BYRD, born December 29, 1880 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died February 05, 1965 in Mendenhall, Simpson Co Mississippi

INA MAE BYRD, born February 17, 1907 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died August 01, 1993 in Delhi, Richland Parish Louisiana.
She married THOMAS HENRY WALKER on April 29, 1926.  He was born March 23, 1904, and died January 06, 1959 in Delhi, Richland Parish Louisiana.  Both are buried in Newton Cemetery, Richland Parish Louisiana.

2. JOHN WILLIAM 'BILLY' BYRD, born 1865, (August 1860, 1900 census) and died 1948, both in Rankin Co Mississippi

He married MELISSA HINSON on April 01, 1894 in Rankin Co Mississippi. The daughter of Francis M. Hinson and his wife, Mary L., she was born March 1871, (March 1870, 1900 census), and died 1961. Both are buried in Florence Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi

CURRIE BYRD, born February 1898, must have died prior to 1920.  I wonder if Hugh and Currie had died prior to 1900, and the census taker misunderstood and put them down as living children.   Perhaps a tombstone could answer these questions.

3. DANIEL J. BYRD, born September 1868, and died 1955, both in Rankin Co Mississippi

He married MARY ELLA CLINE on December 07, 1886 in Rankin Co Mississippi. The daughter of John Cline and his wife Harriett/Tress, she was born June 1874 (1900 census)

4. DORSEY GREEN BYRD, born May 29, 1869, and died October 28, 1953, both in Rankin Co Mississippi

He married MARY 'MOLLIE' HINSON on November 26, 1891 in Simpson Co Mississippi.  The daughter of Francis M. Hinton and his wife, Mary L., she was born May 06, 1869, and died July 21, 1935.  Both are buried in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.  Mary is also a sister to Melissa Hinson who married Green's brother, John W. Byrd.

6. SUSAN ALICE BYRD, born December 29, 1880 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died February 05, 1965 in Mendenhall, Simpson Co Mississippi

She married ALLEN FOSTER DEAR c1901 in Rankin Co Mississippi. A son of John Dear and his wife Mollie, and brother to Sam Dear, Allen was born February 15, 1879 in Rankin Co Mississippi, and died January 23, 1960 in Mendenhall, Simpson Co Mississippi
