June 2001 Barlow and Allied Families Newsletter
Hello Cuzzins,

Well, I get later and later each  month with the newsletter,  not from lack of  material, but  from lack of time.
I seem to have bitten off  more  than I can chew, but I
do  love doing it, and will continue, though in the future, I may not get them done monthly. I will put them up as often as possible,  and of course will keep you all notified of our  reunion, and any new updates I come across.  No response to my cry  for help, though one cousin suggested that you  all might write a little about yourselves and families to share with each other.  I like the idea; if you like the idea, send it on... I'll get to it in time.
The Antioch  Baptist Church  issue of  the newsletter
sure brought a lot of response, primarily from the Bufkin kinfolk, but I have several notes of updates to be made when I get time.  I have also gathered a lot of new  information on the Polk family which will be shared in a  future issue of the  newsletter.  The Polk family has a  lot of Berry's and Bass', and Burkett in it's genealogy. As  promised, this month's issue is about the Old Pleasant Valley Cemetery, aka, Millsaps Cemetery. Thanks to Lora Beth Barlow Wright and Charlotte Barlow Farthing, and of course to the many of you who wrote letters, it is an historical monument, and is cleaned up.  I can't wait to get to see it in person, but for now, photographs will have to do, Lora Beth contributed them, though I think they must have been sent to her by Caroline.

H
Photographs of individual tombstones are from several sources, most taken before the clean up.  The listing used for supplying names of those buried in Pleasant Valley was compiled in 1954 by a Frances Cook, and I don't know if it is complete or not.   Does anyone know the first person buried there, or the latest date someone was buried there. I have more photographs to post, though have them loaned out at the  moment, these from Ben Sessions.   Will post them asap.   Geri Bufkin Richmond called a few days ago to tell me she will be making a trip to the cemetery  from her home in Alabama, and plans to take pictures, she will send me copies of all, they will of course be posted in time.

See it here:

Did I miss anyone?

Geneva Hart sent this to me...it fits me to a tee... Is this a family inherited illness?  Is there a cure?

BUTTFIRST SYNDROME
I have a condition often found in folks of my age. The scientific world is frantically searching for a cure.  This is
an ailment many of  us  suffer from and  may not as  yet have been diagnosed.    However, now you may be able to discuss it with your loved ones and try to explain what really happened to you all those times you tried so hard to accomplish something and didn't.

It's called the "BUTTFIRST Syndrome."   It's like when I decide to do the laundry - I start down the hall and notice the newspaper on the table.  Okay, I'm going to do the laundry -- BUTTFIRST I'm going to read the newspaper.

After that, I notice the mail on the table.   Okay, I'll just put the newspaper in the recycle stack BUTTFIRST I'll look through that pile of mail and see if there are any bills to be paid.  Now where's the checkbook?

Oops! There's the empty glass from yesterday on the coffee table.   I'm going to look for that checkbook, I head for the kitchen, look out the window, notice my poor flowers need a drink of water.   I put the glass in the sink, and darn it, there's the remote for the TV on the kitchen counter.  What's it doing here?  I'll just put  it away, BUTTFIRST I need to water those plants.  Head for door and Ack! I stepped on the dog.

The dog needs to be fed.  Okay, I'll put that remote away and water the plants.  BUTTFIRST I need to feed the dog.

At the end of day:  Laundry is not done, Newspapers are still on the floor, Glass is still in the sink, Bills are unpaid, Checkbook is still missing, The dog ate the remote control.

AND, when I try to figure out how come nothing got done all day, I'm baffled, because I KNOW I was BUSY ALL DAY.  I realize this condition is serious ... and I should get help, BUTTFIRST I think  I'll read my email.

Love to you all til next time,  Susan

PS  ...  I love getting the great responses to the newsletters, keep them coming...and understand, I do read them all, though I seldom reply ...hectic round' here.  I have them all filed, and should they require a response and you have not yet recieved one, try again, if you wait, I'll get to you eventually.
