Volume 3 In Washington, D.C., on the 11th of March, 1856, was solemnized the marriage of Governor Saunders and Miss Marthena Survillar Barlow, who survives him, at the venerable age of ninety-one years, at the opening of the year 1926, and who was long a gracious leader in the social life of Omaha, (Douglas Co) where she is held in affectionate regard by all who have come within the sphere of her influence. Governor Saunders is survived also by one son and one daughter, the latter of whom, Mary, is the wife of Russell B. Harrison, of Indianapolis, Indiana, son of the late General Benjamin Harrison, former president of the United States. Volume 3 The Liberty State Bank came into being in 1919, its organizers being F.A. Rowan, L.P. Hauge, William Hoffmsyer, P.J. Beyers, C.M. Andrews, H.G. Gould, John Jurgens, M.E. Webster, Andy Ladine, Nels Thorstenson, H.A. Fecht, Fritz Brauer, C.O. Hade and F.N. Slawson. Mr. Slawson was the first president, a position which he has held to the present, Mr. Hauge, the first vice president, and Robert Barlow, the first cashier. The capital stock was $25,000. The bank continued under the above management until January 1, 1925, when a controlling interest was purchased by F. N. Slawson, F. H. Wolf, the present cashier, and Fred Lehmkuhl, the present vice president. Marius Christensen and Lena Neubauer are assistant cashiers. A statement of the condition of the bank as reported to the Department of Trade and Commerce at the close of business December 31, 1925, showed the following: Resources—Loans and Discounts, $420,084.20 Overdrafts, $546.26 Bonds and Securities, $174,822.60 Furniture and Fixtures, $5,064.90 Other real estate, $18,305.73 Bankers Cons. Fund, $1,035.29 Cash and due from Banks, $219,332.55 Total, $839,191.53 Liabilities— Capital Stock, $25,000.00 Surplus, $15,000.00 Undivided Profits, $1,457.54 Deposits, $797,046.48 Rediscounts, none Bills Payable, none Guarantee Fund, $687.51 Total, $662,467.40 The deposits of this institution are protected by the State Depositors Guaranty Fund. The institution has in every way lived up to its motto or slogan of “Safety-Strength-Service.” |
