MISS LULA ELLEN BARLOW
Funeral services for Miss Lula
Ellen Barlow, 60, a resident of Clark County for
58 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the
Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Church, with
burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The body
was taken to the Jackson Funeral Home, and will
be returned to the residence Friday afternoon.
Miss Barlow died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at her home
in the Middle Urbana Rd., following an illness
of two years. She was a member of Neal Chapter,
No. 522, Order of the Eastern Star.
A native of Champaign County,
Miss Barlow was born on July 06, 1878. Besides
her Eastern Star affiliation, she was a member
of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Church
and active in the women's organizations of the
church.
Survivors are two brothers, Ezra
J. Barlow of Bellefontaine, O., and Raleigh
W. Barlow of Springfield, Route 6, a niece, Mrs. Thomas
Rooney of Urbana, O., and two nephews, Landis Karg
of Urbana, Route 4, and William Barlow of Lima
O. |

LEONARD BARLOW
Leonard Barlow, 59, of 269 Buxton Ave, died in
his home at 11:30 p.m. Saturday after a lengthy
illness.
Mr. Barlow had been employed in
the ice cream division of The Springfield Purity
Dairy Co. for 32 years. He was a member of the
Second Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow,
Ella; a sister Mrs. Lavinia Rogers of Indianapolis,
Ind., and three brothers, Harrison, Thomas, and
Henry Barlow, all of Horse Cave, Ky.
The body will be returned to the
residence from the Ewing funeral home Monday morning.
Services will be held in the residence at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, with burial in Ferncliff Cemetery. |

ROY BARLOW
Husband and Mother of Mrs. Roy Barlow Die the
Same Day
Mrs. Roy Barlow was doubly bereaved
last Thurs., Jan. 7, by the sudden death early
that morning of her husband, and the death that
evening of her mother, Mrs. Anna Mumma.
Mr. Barlow's death was caused
by heart trouble which he had discovered he was
suffering from, only a week before. He had
continued in his work as a shipping clerk at the
Hanlon Paper Company where he had been employed
for 34 years. In the morning as he was eating
breakfast, the telephone rang, and he went to answer
it as Mrs. Barlow said she feared it was bad news
from her mother who had been seriously ill for
some time. Mr. Barlow suffered a hemorrhage,
and died at once. Mrs. Mumma lived until that evening.
Roy Barlow was the son of Charles,
and Anna Barlow, and was born June 30, 1887, in
Barnesville where he spent his entire life. He
was a man of the finest character and held great
esteem and regard in this city.
Besides his wife, formerly Miss
Pearl Mumma, Mr. Barlow is survived by two sisters
Mrs. Cora Helm, and Miss Daisy Barlow of East Main
Street, and two nephews.
The funeral services were held
from the Campbell Funeral Home Saturday afternoon
at 2 o'clock. They were conducted by Rev.
C. Clare Davis pastor of the First Methodist Church,
and interment was made in the Southern Cemetery.

CHARLES BARLOW
Charles Barlow, 69, of 142 Selma Rd., died at
10:15 a.m. Sunday in his residence following an
illness of a month.
Mr. Barlow was born in Washington
C.H., March 08, 1878, and had been a resident of
Springfield for four years. Most of his life had
been spent in the landscaping business. He was
a member of the Second United Presbyterian Church
and was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.
Survivors include two daughters,
Miss Gertrude Barlow of Springfield and Mrs. Lucille
Lewis of Florida; a brother, Hoy; and a sister,
Miss Anna Barlow, both of Sabina, O., and a granddaughter.
The body was taken to the Jackson-Lytle funeral
home. |

RALEIGH W. BARLOW
Raleigh W. Barlow, 64, of Springfield,
Route 6, Middle Urbana Rd., died of a heart condition
at 8:40 p.m. Saturday in Springfield City Hospital.
He had been ill a few weeks.
A farmer by occupation, he had resided in Clark
County all his life. He never married.
The son of William and Rebecca Loundenback Barlow,
he was born in this county on March 27, 1886.
Mr. Barlow was a member of St. Anthony Lodge No.
455, F. and A.M., and the Pleasant Hill Methodist
Church at New Moorefield.
Survivors include a brother, Ezra
J. Barlow of Bellefontaine; two nephews, William
Barlow of Lima and Landis Karg of Urbana, and a
niece, Mrs. Thomas Rooney of Urbana.
The body was taken to the Jackson-Lytle funeral
home and will be returned to the residence Monday
evening.

EDWARD J. BARLOW
Edward J. Barlow, 78, of Avondale, Indian Lake,
former resident of Springfield, died Sunday morning
in Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
A retired railroader, Mr. Barlow
had been employed at the Bellefontaine New York
Central roundhouse for 20 years. Prior to that
time he had been with New York Central in Springfield
for about 20 years. He had been a member of the
Fraternal Order of Eagles in Springfield for about
45 years.
Mr. Barlow was the last of a family
of five children. Surviving him are a son, William
of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Welsh
and Mrs. James Neff, both of Springfield; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday
in St. Patrick's church in Bellefontaine. The body
is at the Kennedy funeral home in Bellefontaine.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery near Springfield. |

LEVAUGHN BARLOW
Levaughn Barlow, 58, of 2106 Columbus Ave., died
at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mercy Medical Center following
several months of failing health.
A resident of Springfield 37 years,
he was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Evergreen, Ala.,
son of Will W. and Julia Fortner Barlow. An electrician
at International Harvester Co. for 30 years, he
retired in January 1976. Mr. Barlow attended Grace
United Methodist Church, and was a member of Anthony
Lodge 455 F & AM for 25 years, and was also
a member of Local 402, UAW.
He is survived by his wife, Doris
Russell Barlow; step-mother, Mrs. Eva Barlow, Castleberry,
Ala., two sons, Dennis L. and Billy S., both of
Springfield; two grandchildren; one brother, W.J.
of Castleberry; one sister, Mrs. Norman (Loree)
Newton, Bay Minette, Ala.; and several nieces and
nephews.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday
in Littleton Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Angell
of Grace United. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home from 3 to
5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Anthony Lodge services
will be held there at 7 p.m. Friday. |

MRS. MARY ANN BARLOW
CEDARVILLE - Mrs. Mary Ann Barlow, 90, of 38 Church
st., Cedarville, died at 8 a.m. Monday in her residence.
She was born April 07, 1888, in
Clifton, a daughter of William and Ann Daily Reed
and was a life resident of Greene County. She attended
Clifton Schools, was a filing clerk at Wright-Patterson
AFB and was a cook at Cedarville High School for
many years.
Mrs. Barlow was a member of the
Cedarville United Methodist CHurch, the Golden
Rule Class, the United Methodist Women, OES No.
418; an honorary member of the Greene County Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary, and the Home Culture Club of
Cedarville.
Survivors include a grandson, John of Longview,
Wash.; three great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law.
Her husband, Aden, a son, and four brothers are
dead.
Her body was taken to the Ingling-Williams
Funeral Home, Cedarville, where friends may call
from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services
will be held there at 1 p.m. Thursday in charge
of Rev. Dr. Zion Robbins. Burial will be in the
Clifton Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Donald F. Kyle
Medical Center. |

MRS. DAVID BARLOW
Mrs. Eva Barlow, 51, died Monday afternoon in
her residence at 3665 Shawnee Trail, near Jamestown.
She had been seriously ill for the past six months.
She was born June 21, 1927, in Xenia.
Survivors include her husband,
David; two stepchildren, Mrs. James Corbean, Tampa,
Fla., and Terry Barlow, Xenia; five step grandchildren;
three step great--grandchildren; two brothers,
John Berger, Xenia, and George Berger, Dayton,
and a sister, Mrs. Raymond Dowler, Xenia.
Services will be held at 1:30
p.m. Thursday in the Powers Funeral Home, Jamestown,
with burial in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. Calling
hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Contributions
may be made to a favorite charity.

CLAIRE S. BARLOW
Claire S. Barlow, 79, of Springfield,
passed away Sunday, June 06, 1993, at 5:37 p.m.
in Villa of Springfield. She was born July 22,
1913, in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of John
A. and Blanche C. (Gallagher) Sullivan.
She was
a graduate of Wittenburg University; a member
of Sorority Chi Omega and a member of St. Teresa
Catholic Church. She retired after 23 years teaching
in Springfield City Schools.
Survivors include a
daughter, Claire Ann (Zigman) Percynski of Fairview,
Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, R. Scott Percynski
of CHarlotte, North Carolina, Linda Percynski and
Beth Percynski, both of Fairview, Pennsylvania;
and one nephew, Stephen Sullivan. She was preceded
in death by two brothers, C. Roger Sullivan and J.
Alfred Sullivan; and a sister, Blanche Reardon.
There
will be no visitation. A prayer service will be
held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Jackson Lytle & Ingling
Williams Funeral Home, North Limestone Chapel.
A funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa
Catholic Church with Father Victor Ries officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Contributions
in Claire's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation
or to one's favorite charity. |

Joan Cook, 73: Former reporter for The New York Times who headed its Newspaper
Guild chapter and helped organize a successful sex discrimination lawsuit
against the Times in the 1970s; Sunday in New York.
Ms. Cook worked at the Times for
32 years as a reporter, feature writer and editor
before retiring in 1991.
She began her newspaper career at the Minneapolis
Star-Journal and Tribune, starting in the classified
ad office and later moving to the newsroom. While
living in France in 1949, Ms. Cook wrote a weekly
column for the Paris edition of the Herald Tribune.
After returning to the United States the following
year, she worked for the paper's parent, the New York
Herald Tribune. She also worked as women's editor
of The Detroit News and as a copy editor for King
Features Syndicate before joining the Times in 1959.
She won a Publishers Award in 1970 for a story about families visiting
convicts at a New York prison. In 1974, Ms. Cook and six other women
sued the Times for sex discrimination. The action was settled in 1978
with cash payments and a court-supervised affirmative action plan.
Ms. Cook headed the Times' chapter of The American Newspaper Guild,
with 2,000 members the nation's largest, from 1980 to 1984.
She is survived by two sons, John
Barlow and Joseph Cook; a daughter, Jezebel
Cook; and three grandchildren. Her husband died in 1979. |

ROBERT F. GEORGE, 85, who retired as a sales correspondent from Diamond
International of Middletown, Ohio, died May 2, 1995, at a local care
center. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Shrine
of Remembrance "America
the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., with the
Rev. James D. Anderson officiating.
Entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance
Chapel Mausoleum.
Mr. George was born Nov. 20, 1909,
in Mineral Ridge to the Rev. Boyd and Hannah (Alton)
George. He
was married Aug. 16, 1930, in Middletown to Floy
Grace Barlow, who survives. He also
is survived by two sons, Robert F. Jr. and Thomas
A., both of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Susan G.
Hilty of Colorado Springs; eight grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren. He had a brother and two
sisters who are deceased.
Mr. George attended Ohio Wesleyan
University. He had been an area resident since
1973 and was a member of the First Lutheran Church
and its Chancel Choir. He was a former elder at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Middletown. He enjoyed fishing,
camping and animals.
