My elusive Lydia BARLOW (b. abt. 1784)
and husband Ransom ODELL (b. abt 1780) named a son "Nelson" and
thename was carried down every generation as far
as my generation either in the form "Nellie" or "Nelson." It
must have been a family name to have been so important.
I figure the name was a BARLOW name since I haven't
found any "Nellies" or "Nelsons" among
any other ODELL lines other than this one. I don't know
precisely where my Lydia and Ransom were born. The
census gives New Hampshire as Lydia's birthplace
and New York for Ransom. I think Ransom was probably
born either in the Oblong area that was disputed
by Connecticut and New York (area east of the Hudson
River) or else up around the Glens Falls-Lake
George area near the Vermont border. In the
time period of Lydia's birth the area that became
Vermont was being claimed by New York and New Hampshire
so when she said she was born in New Hampshire, it
might not be the New Hampshire we think of today.
I know I'm grasping at straws,
but these folks have stumped researchers for many
years. They didn't
leave a paper trail. Lydia and Ransom had several
children born in NY in the 1805-1814 time period
before moving to Scioto Co Ohio where the first "Nelson" -
my gg grandfather - was born in 1818. The names
of those New York born children include some very common
BARLOW given names - Thomas (the eldest
child) and Moses (the 2nd son). There was also Mary,
Melinda, Chauncey, Benajah (an Odell name), and James.

Looking for Lydia Barlow born abt 1790 probably in New
Hampshire or New York. She married Ransom Odle/Odell and
moved to Scioto Co Ohio in 1815. I have no other
information on her. I believe they may have
been in the Chenango Co area of New York or Renssalaer
New York. They had several children. Males were
Thomas, Moses, Benajah, Nelson.

Marsha McCarty
Joseph BARLOW born February 12, 1702 Rochester, Massachusetts
and died after September 09, 1731
He married Abigail WYATT born September 26, 1707 Rochester,
Massachusetts
She died January 29, 1793 Hardwick, Massachusetts Joseph
and Abigail BARLOW had the following children:
Aaron, Ebenezer, Joseph Jr., Moses, Wyatt
Barlow, and
Mary Barlow, born September 22, 1747 Rochester,
Massachusetts and died after 1829 Lorain Co Ohio
She married 1765 Samuel ELDRED
My gg grandfather was Wyatt Barlow ELDRED.
He was born 1833 in Lorain Co Ohio. His father was Nathaniel
ELDRED born in 1806 Massachusetts. I believe that Nathaniel's
father was Ebenezer Barlow ELDRED, son of
Samuel and Mary 'BARLOW' ELDRED. He was named
after Mary's brother Ebenezer BARLOW.
Ebenezer Barlow ELDRED was in Massachusetts
and Ohio when Nathaniel was, but up to now I have not been
able to find any records proving or showing Nathaniel
to be his child. I'm wondering if there
might be information written through the Barlow
side.
I would like to correspond with anyone knowing of any
of these BARLOW or ELDRED people.

I am still looking for parents of Frederick
P. Barlow. I believe that he was the grandson of the Revolutionary
War soldier John Barlow of Kent, Connecticut. His father
could be John Barlow, or Elisha Barlow, or Heman Barlow,
or Julius Caswell Barlow. I find Frederick in Portage
Co Ohio, married Sally Derthick on 26 Feb 1845. Also
passing through Portage Co in the same time frame was
Julius, Heman, Fanny, Joseph W., William, Alfred H.,
and Horace Barlow.
I have a record of a Frederick Barlow, who
was admitted to the Baptist Church in
Wyoming Co NY in 1842, on a letter from New
Milford, Connecticut..

James Barlow was married first to Lady Newton who died
after having a son and a daughter. His second wife was
Lady Newton's cousin, also called Lady Newton. She
passed away after having four sons.
James then married again but the name of the wife has
not been found.
James Barlow who lived in England, presumably
in Darlington, and believed to be born around 1781. He
left Darlington, England and arrived in Baltimore in
September 1831 at the age of 50.
His third wife - name unknown - and two
children, William J. and Elizabeth Ann. ..aka Ann
Woodland, arrived sometime later. James had two
more children while
in Baltimore. They were Amos and Isabell;
she was called Belle. The family moved to Barnesville,
Ohio five or six years later.
Amos subsequently married Martha Hunt
of Baltimore and they raised their family in Barnesville. He
and Martha had ten children. Three did not survive. The
seven remaining were: James N., William "Will" H.,
Emily "Emma",
Martha, Inez, Florence and Alice
Most of the above information
was obtained at
the public library in Barnesville. Information concerning
James and his three wives was in a separate
file under the
name of Barlow but there was no information
concerning who had compiled that data.

We are very interested in finding connections
to my husband's grandparents: John Barlow and Mildred

earlier possibly. They lived in Ashtabula and Trumbull
County Ohio. So far we have very little
information on the family.
Their children were: Al Barlow, Elvira Barlow Lipps,

Any suggestions as to where to go from here on the web? Many
thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able
