The New York Times, January 15, 1912 Pioneer Newport Boat Builder Dies.      Special to The New York Times.

NEWPORT, R.I., Jan. 14. -- Moses Barlow, one of Newport's pioneer boat builders, and also one of its oldest citizens, died last evening, at the residence of one of his sons here. He was 94 years old.

PROVIDENCE, R.I., November 26, (AP) - Word was recieved here today that Dr. John Barlow, former vice-president of Rhode Island State College and a dean emeritus for the last two years, died early today in Baptist Hospital, Brookline, Mass., where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He would have been 72 years old on Tuesday.

LUCILLE C. MESSIER, 73, of 104 Hanover Ave., a teacher at the former Sacred Heart School before retiring, died Sunday at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Theodore and Albina (Archambeault) Messier, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a communicant of St. Cecelia Church and a member of the Third Order of Mary. She had been a religious sister of the Holy Union for nine years. She also taught at St. Teresa's School and St. Cecilia's School. She had also been a teller at the Pawtucket Credit Union.

She leaves a sister, Alice B. Barlow of Cumberland.  She was the sister of the late Raymond Messier.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux and Son, 1042 Newport Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Cecilia Church, Central Avenue, at 10.      Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

JOSEPH ERNEST "PETE" PALARDY, 63, of Sisson Street, a forklift mechanic at Northeast Clark Lift of Warwick for 20 years, retiring in 1990, died Thursday at home.  He was the husband of Joyce H. (Davenport) Palardy.
Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Raymond E. and Louise A. (Turgeon) Palardy, he lived in Pawtucket for 34 years.

Mr. Palardy was a member of Teamsters Local 251, an assistant Girl Scout leader, a minister of the Cup of St. John the Baptist Church, a CCD teacher, and vice president of the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Joseph E. Palardy Jr. of Pawtucket; three daughters, Dawn J. Aust and Darlene L. Brillon, both of Pawtucket, and Sheila M. Barlow of Cumberland; a sister, Shirley M. Peloquin of Woonsocket; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the McAloon-Kelly Funeral Home, 213 Garden St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. John the Baptist Church, Slater Street.      Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.

MICHAEL D. SWEENEY, 85, of Cambridge Street, a contractor for more than 40 years, died yesterday at Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home.

A son of the late Michael D. Sweeney Sr. and the late Flora (Burns) Sweeney, he was a lifelong Fall River resident.  He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, earning a Victory Medal, an Aircrew Insignia with four stars, a Purple Heart, an Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, an American Area Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, a Letter of Commendation from the 7th fleet commanding officer, Admiral Kincaid, and two Presidential Unit Citations. He was a communicant of SS. Peter & Paul Church and an avid walker and sports fan.

He leaves three sisters, Winifred Motta, Edith Kmiecik and Rosemary Leduc, all of Fall River, three nephews and two nieces. He was a brother of the late Francis Sweeney, Margaret Barlow and Josephine Sweeney.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the Maplewood Funeral Home of Harrington-Sullivan, Waring & O'Rourke, 986 Plymouth Ave., with a funeral Mass at 9 in Holy Cross Church, 69 Pulaski St. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

ALICE S. ROSARIO, of 138 Martin St., died yesterday at home. She was the wife of the late August F. Rosario.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Lopes) Cabral, she was a lifelong resident of East Providence.   Mrs. Rosario was a member of the Cape Verdean Women's Guild, the Martin de Porres Senior Citizens Center and the East Providence Senior Citizens Center.

She leaves two daughters, Margaret M. Ramos and Janet A. Barlow, and a son, Benjamin "Junior" Gonsalves, all of East Providence, 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Edward "Sonny" Rosario and sister of the late Clara Lema, Olivia Monteiro, Mary Gonsalves and Ceasar, Paul, August and Albert Cabral.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Martha Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

WILLIAM "BILL" LOPES, 73, of East Main Street, an employee at Riveredge-Duro for 43 years, died Friday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Claire M. (Collard) Lopes.

Born in Fall River, he lived in Island Park in Portsmouth for many years.

Mr. Lopes was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Star Riders Motorcycle Club many years ago. He enjoyed swimming, fishing and bowling.

He leaves three sons, Arnold Lopes of Barrington, Steve Lopes of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Raymond Lopes of Tiverton; a daughter, Susan Lopes of Fall River; and seven grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Agnes Barlow, and Rose, Mary, Angela, Blanche, Tobias, Alfred, Manuel, Joseph and Johnny Lopes.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., with a funeral Mass at noon in Notre Dame Church, Eastern Avenue. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

EVA E. MESSIER, 90, of Benefit Street, died Friday at home.

She was the wife of the late William J. Messier Sr.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Theophile and Clara (Henault) Roy, she had lived in Lincoln most of her life, moving to Pawtucket in 1980.

She leaves two sons, Edmond J. Messier of South Attleboro and William J. Messier Jr. of Lincoln; two daughters, Florence M. Gianquitti of Providence and Evelyn E. Lavallee, with whom she lived; a sister, Loretta Nelson of Seekonk; 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Robert J. Messier Sr., Dorothy T. Pina and Leo J. Messier and sister of the late Priscilla Barlow and Blanche Fergeau.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Cecilia Church, Central Avenue. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
