Mrs. Sallie
Caraway was born in Halifax county, Va., in the year 1828, Nov.1;
died June 15, 1914; age eight-four years, seven months and fifteen
days. She first married a Mr. Wilmoth, who died in eleven months,
after which she married Brink Caraway and raised three step children.
Her husband preceded her to the grave six years ago. Her
maiden name was Barlow. She professed religion several years ago and joined
the church at Walker's Chapel, of which she lived a consistent
member until last year, when she moved her membership to McClain's
Chapel. She lived an exemplary Christian life. She was a good step-mother,
strong in her convictions for right, faithful to her friends until
God saw fit to take her home. We should all try to live so that
when we are called to go we can hear the Master say to us, as we
believe he had said to her "Well done, thou good and faithful
servant; enter thou in the joys of thy Lord." Funeral services
were conducted by Rev. T. J. Simmons at Walker's Chapel, Monday,
June 15, 1914. |

CUTTS, William Herman (1895 - 1953)
Rites Thursday For Herman Cutts
William Herman Cutts, 58, McMinnville laborer, died at his home on Red Road
Wednesday morning at 3:45 o’clock, following an illness of five months.
Funeral rites were held Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at the chapel
of High Funeral Home. Rev. William Middleton, minister of the Church of the
Nazarene, officiated and burial was in Riverside cemetery. Mr. Cutts, a native
of Warren county, was born March 10, 1895. He was a son of John Cutts and
Christina Asmus Cutts and he was married to Miss Lizzie Caldwell, who survives.
Mr. Cutts served in the Army during World War I and had been employed in
McMinnville most of his lifetime. Besides his wife, he is survived by two
sons, W. H. Cutts, Painesville, Ohio, and George W. Cutts, McMinnville; three
daughters, Miss Frances Cutts, McMinnville, Mrs. Fred L. Lawson, Painesville,
Ohio, and Mrs. J. W. Barlow, Beauford, S. C.;
two brothers, Butler Cutts and James Cutts, Chattanooga, and three sisters,

HITCHCOCK, Murphy C. (circa 1881-1970)
Murphy C. Hitchcock, 89-year-old blacksmith and native of Van
Buren County, died of a lingering illness Friday, Dec. 11,
at 8:15 a.m., at Warren county General Hospital. A member
of the Church of Christ, he was a son of the late John and
Margaret York Hitchcock. He was married in 1958 to Lillie
Phifer Barlow Hitchcock, who survives. Other survivors include
two sons, Eldridge Hitchcock, McMinnville, and Lawrence Hitchcock,
Manchester; one daughter, Bessie Maye Dillon, McMinnville;
two step-sons, Powell Barlow, Quebeck, and J.T.
Barlow, U.S.
Air Force, Quam, Germany; one step-daughter, Mary Edna Rogers,
Spencer; 16 grandchildren, and 17 great- grandchildren. Funeral
services were scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m., at
Laurel Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Garvin Haley and John
W. High officiating, and burial to follow at Long Cemetery.

TEMPLETON, Wilson C. (1927-1985)
Taken suddenly ill Friday, McMinnville Drug Center pharmacist
Wilson C. Templeton, 58, was dead on arrival at River Park
Hospital at 2 p.m. A resident of 213 West Sparta Street,
he was a native of Alabama and lifelong resident of McMinnville.
The Korean War veteran was a graduate of Central High School, attended
Memphis State University and graduated from the University
of Tennessee School of Pharmacy at Memphis. A member of First
Baptist Church, he was married to the former Velma Neely
and was a son of the late William and
Rachel Barlow Templeton.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons and a daughter, Larry
J. Templeton of Dennison, Minn., Garry L. Templeton of Largo, Fla., and
Ann DuBose of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is also survived by
two sisters and three brothers, Cynthia Pegg of McMinnville,
Connie Cutts of Chattanooga, Edward of Holly Hill, Fla.,
John of Tacoma, Wash. and Allen Templeton of Crawfordville,
Ga. Six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Rev. Harold White conducted services in High Funeral Home
Chapel at 3 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in Gardens of Memory.

Waymond H. Mason, 80-year-old resident of Route
1, Quebeck, died Wednesday in White County Community Hospital,
Sparta. A member of the Church of Christ, he was married to the
former JoAnn Halterman. In addition to his widow, he is survived
by four sons, Thurman of Beersheba Springs, Roger of Walling,
W.H. of Knoxville and Donald Mason of Athens. He is also survived
by a brother and four sisters, Will Mason of Nashville, May Sparkman
of Doyle, Nannie Bell Slatton, Erma Barlow, Eva McBride, all
of Quebeck, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body is in state at Jericho Church of Christ where services
will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the church
cemetery. Thurman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The

Minite Ethel Hillis, 96, died Aug. 11 at White County Community
Hospital after an extended illness. A homemaker and a member
of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of John
and Cynthia Hill Barlow and was preceded in death by her
husband, Robert Lee Hillis in 1960. She is survived by two daughters,
Lonnie Pauline Baker of Virginia Beach, Va. and Amanda Baker
of Spencer; one son, John J. HIllis of McMinnville; four grandchildren,
five great-grandchildren and six ste-greatgrandchildren. Services
will be held today at 2 p.m. at High's Chapel with Rev. Lofton
Graves officiating. Burial will follow at Crain Hill Cemetery

The Rev. H.D. Barlow, 75, a retired
Baptist minister, died of heart failure Tuesday in Bartlett.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at Memphis Funeral Home - Poplar Chapel in Memphis,
Tennessee.
Burial: Memory Hills Gardens in Memphis.
The Rev. Barlow had been a properties director
for the Baptist Home Mission Board in Atlanta. He was a graduate
of Bowie High School in Bowie, Howard Payne University in Brownwood
and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was pastor
of a number of churches in Texas and Arizona, including Crowley
and Dalworthington Gardens.
Survivors: Wife, Mary Coe Barlow; two daughters,
Pat McCallister of Irving and Becky Jordan of Allen; son, Bob,
of Bartlett; two sisters, Bonnie Irby of Granbury and Melba Dean

Valley with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery in Coffeeville.
He held six patents for the development of early rocket components.
Mr. Wright, the husband of Opal Williams Wright, also leaves a daughter,
Joyce Wright Knudson of Pascagoula; a son, Dr. Benson George Wright,
II of Water Valley; a brother, A. Morris Wright of Olive Branch, and
three grandchildren.
