Janelle Swearington, invalid email:

I am interested in finding any Barlow in Isle of Wight or Southampton Co Virginia circa 1750-1780,  who had a daughter REBECCA.  I believe  REBECCA BARLOW married first JOHN PORTER who died 1777 and she then married ETHELDRED BRANTLEY.
Her children were JOHN, BENJAMIN, JESSE, THOMAS and TABITHA PORTER.
Clare Pebworth, invalid email

I have an ANN BARLOW who married MOSES HARBISON in 1789 in  Culpeper Co Virginia, between 1810 and 1812  she ..as a widow... moved her family to Barren Co Kentucky
Would you have any information re Ann's parents?
I know that on the 1810 Barren Co Kentucky census,  an AMBROSE BARLOW is listed so he must be a relative.   In 1820, there  was a  Joshua and a ROBERT T. BARLOW in Barren Co Kentucky.
Thank you for any help you may give me.

Nancy Burke, invalid email:

I am  interested in a  SARAH BARLOW who married THOMAS SIMMONS, probably in  Halifax Co Virginia in 1825.  THOMAS SIMMONS was the eldest son of BENJAMIN SIMMONS and MARTHA 'HOOD' SIMMONS.
Evidently  Thomas  received  73.5  acres  from  the  US  Government 21 March 1828.  He was in Bartholomew Co Indiana so I assume the land was in Bartholomew County. Don't know the reason for the land grant.  Perhaps Thomas received it in lieu of his father, Benjamin, who may have fought in the War of 1812.
Benjamin died 20 September 1825 in Kentucky, probably Pleasant Run, Hardin Community, Washington Co Kentucky.
I know nothing about Sarah before she married Thomas.  Sarah died 25 March 1846 in  Bartholomew Co Indiana.   She and Thomas travelled from Virginia through Washington Co Kentucky where their first child was born.
1.  MARTHA ~  Martha was Thomas's mothers' name
2.  PRISCILLA
3.  MARY ELLEN
4.  BENJAMIN FRANKLIN   ~  Thomas's fathers' name was Benjamin
5.  MISSOURI / MELISSA
6.  JOHN WESLEY
7.  THOMAS -  middle name may be HENRY
I would appreciate  any  information about Sarah BARLOW prior to her marriage to Thomas SIMMONS.

Note from Susan:  I find it interesting that I find a marriage between a Nancy Barlow and Thomas Simmons in Washington Co Kentucky on August 25, 1824.   Could Nancy and Sarah be the same person?

Hallie Garner & Lisa Schaffer, July 1999, invalid emails:

I am trying to find more information on JOHN BARLOW who came from North Carolina or Virginia to Hardin County  Tennessee by 1850.   His  age is given as age 65 in both 1850 and 1860.  He does not appear in 1870 that I can determine.  He and a woman named ELVIRA, assumed to be wife ... age also varies ... have children or probably some may be grandchildren --relationships are not stated until 1880 census
1. NANCY born ca 1828 Tennessee
2. CHARLES P. born ca 1838 Tennessee
3. MARTHA A. born ca 1840 Tennessee
4. JOHN S.. born ca 1843
5. JASPER N. born ca 1844
6. WILLY H. born 1847
7. ELVIRA born 1849
8. ELIZABETH J. born ca 1849
9. FRANCES M. born 1851
10. WILLIAM W. born 1860
Osburns live nearby with Barlows living with them...possibly Elvira is an Osburn.  Also Greens and Campbells from NC live nearby....thus making me think they would have come from the mountainous area of NC, possibly  from the Wilkes County Barlows. However, the common name of John and the varying ages both he and Elvira reports have created problems!
Son Charles P. married Eliza Barlow in 1858 in Lawrence Co Tennessee and he served in Co D 19th TN Cav CSA .... no pension applied for as both he and spouse died too early -- he died in 1874 in  Hardin County.   They apparently only had two children, Elvira and John  Wesley, who married Sara Hughling/Huling and she died in Dyer Co Tennessee.  John Wesley eventually ended up in Dunklin Co Missouri with a second wife.
Any connections to this family that might help unravel the John Barlow with wife Elvira mystery will be greatly appreciated.
