THIS INDENTURE made this Eleventh Day of August in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred & Eighty Four BETWEEN William Barlow & Naomi his wife, Thomas Moore & Milley his wife, Hardy Melton & Delilah his wife & John Sammons & Chloe his wife of the County of Greensville of the one part and Abner Grigg of the County of Dinwiddie of the other part WITNESSETH that the said William Barlow etc. for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Three Pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Abner Grigg the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, they the said William Barlow & Naomi his wife, Thomas Moore & Milley his wife, Hardy Melton & Delilah his wife & John Sammons & Chloe his wife, have granted bargained & sold by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said Abner Grigg his heirs and assigns for ever all that certain Tract piece or parcel of Land and premises situate lying & being in the aforesaid County of Greensville, containing One Hundred & Six Acres be the same more or less and bounded by the lines of Frederick Grigg & Lawrence Howse & two new chopp'd lines that divides this land from the Lands of the aforesaid Hardy Melton & John Sammons & is part of the Land lately conveyed by John Lawrence now dec'd by Deed of Gift to Naomi, Milley, Delilah & Chloe Lawrence now wives of the aforesaid William Barlow, Thomas Moore, Hardy Melton & John Sammons which said Deed of Gift bears date the (blank) day of (blank) in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred and (blank) and is duly recorded in the Worshipful Court of Brunswick County reference thereto being had may more fully appear TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Land and premises with all and singular the appurt's. thereunto belonging and the said Abner Grigg his heirs & assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Abner Grigg his heirs & a ssigns for ever AND the said William Barlow & Naomi his wife, & Thomas Moore & Milly his wife Hardy Melton & Delilah his wife & John Sammons & Chloe his wife the said Land & premises to the said Abner Grigg his heirs & assigns against them the said William Barlow & Naomi his wife, Thomas Moore & Milly his wife, Hardy Melton & Delilah his wife & John Sammons & Chloe his wife, and their several and respective heirs & against all and every other person & persons whatsoever shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents.

Will of William Barlowe,  21 February 1617

If I die at Easton my body to the Chancell. God having given me ability in my lifetime to provide for my wife and children, I will now be the shorter.
My daughter, Ann having as yet very little of certainty, I make her estate worth £300.
To my brother, John Barlowe, 100 marks. To my son, Thomas, all my Loadstones and Mathematical books and instruments.
To the poor in Winchester 40's. To poor in Avington 20's. To my men servants and maids, half a years wages.
My wife, Julyan Barlowe, and my son William Barlowe, joynt (sic) executors.
My son, William Barlow shall have £40 to assist his mother but all things to her direction.
My daughters, Mary and Katherine, portions may amount to £300 apiece.
All reversions of the Church Coppidoulds as I shall have at my death unbargained for and unsold I give to my son Barnaby Barlowe.
 
Note beneath the will, probably written by the author of the book reads:

About  the  middle of  the Seventeenth century,  a  Ralph Barlowe  lived  in  Northampton Co, Virginia.  Various  references in the records  there show that he was related to Robert Parker of  that county, who, like William Barlowe, whose will is given above, was a Hampshire man. On  October 28, 1653, Mr. George Parker sued Mr. John Elsey, (sic) executor of Mr. Ralph Barlowe, and on June 28, 1658, Jone (sic) Elzey "of Old England", petitioned Northampton Court that Mr. John Elzey (sic) executor of Mr. Ralph Barlowe, should pay her 500 pounds tobacco left her, in Ralph Barlowe's will.

Will of Richard Pigeon 16 February 1718  Mentions his daughter, Rebeccah Barlow    Deeds Etc. 1713-28, page 288, transcribed below:
 
In The Name of God Amen.   I Richard Pigeon of Prince George County in Virginia being weak of body but of perfect  mind and memory do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, vizt:
Imprimis.
My will and Desire is that my wife Elizabeth Live with my son Richard and be maintained at his charge and that my said son Richard shall pay unto her yearly one hogshead of tobacco containing six hundred weight in order to bey her necessarys but if my said wife is not willing to Live with my son Richard, then I Desire she may Live with one of her Daughters and Richard pay her the Hogshead of tobacco above mentioned annually. I also give and bequeath to my wife my best bed and furniture during her Life, and at her Decease I give the said bed and furniture to my son Richard.
  Item.
I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah three cows and calves and tenn pounds to be paid in a store, the cows and calves and tenn  pounds to be paid one year after the  marriage of Sarah, but in case of mortallity this Legacy shall be Divided betwixt my son Richard and my Daughter Mary or the survivor.
  Item.
I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary three cows and calves & ten pounds to be paid in a store, this Legacy is to be paid within one year after the marriage of my said Daughter Mary, but in case of mortallity this Legacy to be Divided betwixt my son Richard and my Daughter Sarah if they both survive, or to the survivor.
  Item.
I give and bequeath to my Daughter Rebeccah Barlow three cows and calves to be Delivered Imediately after my Decease.
  Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Marks three cows and calves to be delivered Imediately after my Decease.
  Item.
My will and Desire is that my son Richard maintain and take care of my son Charles, but if Richard refuse to comply with this my will and Desire, then my will is that Richard  shall pay unto my son Charles the sum of tenn pounds.
  Item.
I give and bequeath unto my son Richard all my Lands and the rest and residue of my Estate both reall and personall my Debts and funeral charges being first paid.
  Item.
I also make and ordain and constitute my son Richard my sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament made this  sixteenth Day of February in the year one thousand seven hundred and Eighteen.

At a Court held at Merchants hope for the County of Prince George on the second Tuesday in March being the fourth Day of the said month Anno Dom. 1718.
 
The above written  Last Will and Testament of Richard Pigeon Dece'd. was Exhibited into Court by Nathaniel Harrison Esq. and Richard Pigeon the Exr. named therein for certain causes having refused to undertake the Burthen of the Execution of the said Testament,  the said Nathaniel Harrison made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of Phillip Claud, John Hamersley, and John Berry, witnesses thereto is by order of the Court truly Recorded and Certificate is granted  the said Nathaniel Harrison for  obtaining a Commission of Administration with the said Will annexed in due form.

Leg. to son William Barlow, the plantation where I live including land between the Otterdam Swamp and a small branch that runs into Syars Branch on the Little Field that William Barlow first cleared then down Branch to Richard Pace corner...to the three creeks.
To son John Barlow, the plantation where John White now lives, as John White and his wife's decease and the rest of my land on both sides of the three creeks.
To my son Nathaniel Barlow, all land I bought of Daniel Hicks on Poplar Creek in Brunswick Co. If he dies, to go to John Barlow. Plantation where I live to my wife for her life, William to live there during her life, at her death to be his property. Desires the rest of the estate divided between wife and children. The men to divide the estate are Richard Pace, Richard More, Thomas Avert. Estate in wife's hands until son, William Barlow comes of age unless wife marries, then estate be divided at once.
Son William Barlow and wife Sarah, executors.
