Will dated 04 February 1815; value of probate under £25,000 pounds, personal estate and effects to John Elton of Loe Tottington & James Rostron of Holcolmbe
& James Brindle, Gentleman of Blackburn.
£12,000 to his son James Barlow
£2,100, to the children of his son John Barlow, equally divided, these would be James Sophia's father, William who died in 1858, at Entwistle Hall, John who lived with Sophia's family and never married, Catherine, wife of James Brown of Horwich, (David Ollerton's direct line), and Alice; wife of James Harwood of Blacksnape.
£6,500 invested for his daughter Catherine who married James Meadowcroft.
Half each of what was left of his estate to his son John Barlow and daughter Catherine Meadowcroft.
Croitchley Fold to Catherine in her lifetime £40 and £10 in rents for Catherine, the £10 to come from a tenant called Huntley or Hulley (writing not clear) near Bury. The £40 to come from Croitchley to be paid to her by trustees of his grandson John Barlow.
Farm buildings and lands known as Croitchley and Griggs to James Barlow, his grandson, Sophias father.
Brick Kiln in the occupation of James Ramsbottom for the use for his grandson James Meadowcroft. This was Catherine Meadowcroft's son but he had died by the time she made her will in 1826.
In default of James Meadowcroft having any heirs which was the case Brick Kiln was to go to his son James Barlow, aka Dr. James Barlow.
Tittleshaw Farm in possession of William Smith, to go to Alice Meadowcroft, his granddaughter, she was Catherine Meadowcroft's daughter but was dead when her mother made her will in 1826.
Whittakers Entwistle to go to his grandson John Barlow, Sophia's uncle, he never married and was living with Sophia's family at the time of the 1851 census at Crowtrees.
Bottoms Tottington, occupied by John Ainsworth plus the mill and factory & cottage occupied by James Rothwell to his grandson William Barlow, the one who ended up buying Entwistle Hall and not having enough money to complete the purchase and died there in 1858,.
