ELIAS BARLOW1 was born 20 October 1804 in North Carolina, and died 1878 in Conecuh Co Alabama.

He married JANE who was born 09 June 1810 in South Carolina and died 10 October 1884 in Conecuh Co Alabama.
Mt. Union Church records show that Jane Barlow was buried there. It is assumed Elias is also buried there, however there are no grave markers for either of them.

Elias and William Barlow are said to be the son's of William E. Barlow born c1776, but no proof has been found. (Who is this Wm E. Barlow, born 1776?)  DNA test results posted June 2013 proves that Elias is a direct descendant of William Barlow of Robeson Co NC. My own thoughts are that they are sons of John Barlow as mentioned next:
I find a John Barlow in the 1840 Conecuh Co Alabama census.  He and his wife are aged between 70-80.  They have in the home 2 females age 5-10, and 3 females age 20-30.   Census Image    Could he be the father of Elias and William?

It is thought that she married a Morgan, but nothing further is known. She was enumerated with her parents in 1850, was missing in the 1860 census, and may be the Mary Morgan shown enumerated with Jane Barlow in the 1880 census.

DELANA/DELANY BARLOW, born 13 or 15 January 1841 in Conecuh Co Alabama, and died 10 January 1889, burial in Mt. Union Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama

JOHN W. BARLOW, born 19 August 1843 in Conecuh Co Alabama, died between 1905, burial in Barlow Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama.

MARTHA CATHERINE BARLOW, born 30 November 1845, in Conecuh Co Alabama, and died in the late 1880's.

ELIAS P. BARLOW, born 30 January 1849 in Conecuh Co Alabama, and apparently died before 1910.

ABIGAIL LEE BARLOW, born 06 December 1851 in Conecuh Co Alabama, and died 20 March 1934, burial in Old Town Church Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama.

This may or may not be the same; from Edson Barlow's military records: William E. Barlow, Private, Co E 16th AL Infantry, organized at Courtland AL Aug 1861, consolidated with the 1st, 33rd and 45th Infantry Regiments and designated as the 1st AL Infantry Regiment Consolidated at Smithfield NC Apr 8 1865

Enclosed in an article on the Health Report for Conecuh County by Dr. A.A. McKittrick, Health Officer in 1889 and published in THE STAR, a early newspaper in Conecuh County. The letter of names from Old Town District was written by W.B. Shaver of Herbert, Ala. He was Dr. Shaver, and served on the Medical Board with Dr. McKittrick. He said in his forward that 'I have taken the pains to find out about all the persons that are in Old Town Beat No. 9 that are sixty years old and upward. Both white and black, male and female. Below I give a list of names with age. Signed respectfully, W.B. Shaver" Included is: W.E. Barlow, age 63, white male

Cannot locate them in 1880. During this time, they apparently had 2 more children, the 1900 census shows that they had 5 children, with 4 living at that time. (Living with daughter, Hensy Miller) In 1910, Martha is still with Hensy.  If anyone does locate them, please let me know.   Susan

SAVANNAH EASTER BARLOW, born 28 December 1862 in Alabama. 
She married OLIVER CAIN / CLYDE TOLBERT c1875.  The son of Hezekiah Tolbert and Diana Thompson, he was born 05 January 1854 in Alabama, and died 02 May 1940.   They had no children according to census records.    Lived in Santa Rosa Co Florida

JEPTHA J. BARLOW2 (ELIAS1) son of Elias and Jane Barlow, was was born 03 May 1831 in Alabama, and died in 26 December 1863, burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, Shelby Co Tennessee.

He married SARAH.  She was born c1832 in Alabama   (see notes under Sarah, daughter of William and Dicey Barlow)

It is believed that their daughter Cecilia is in the home with David and Mulsey Crawford, her age 10 years  born in NC, in the 1860 census of Conecuh Co, next door to Wm. Sheffield, no relationship known. (Nelda Stephenson)

In the 1870 Census Image, a 30 year old Sarah Barlow lives near Alex Barlow with Nancy Ray, age 42, and 8 year old Mary, who may be a Ray, but may also be a Barlow, the record is unclear.

CECILIA ANN 'CELIA' BARLOW, born May 1853 in Alabama  (Diane Johns Lucas sends an email in June 2012 in which she states:  It is my opinion that there is no "Cecilia" Barlow - I believe the person who sent you that information (Nelda Stephenson?) probably could not read the name "Leatha" clearly and assumed that it said "Cecilia". However the marriage, death and census do not actually indicate that there was a child with this name.)

FRANCES ELETHIA 'LEATHA' BARLOW, born May 1853 in Alabama, and died 1929.  (Diane Johns Lucas believes Letha is the the child of Jeptha and Sarah, and not Cecelia, but both will be shown in this genealogy for the sake of argument.  If anyone can prove without a doubt that either or both are children children of Jeptha and Sarah, it would be much appreciated if you would share that documentation with this website)

DANIEL B. BARLOW2 (ELIAS1), son of Elias and Jane Barlow, was born 30 March 1833 in Alabama and died 07 September 1862 in the Civil War, possibly from malaria.

He married ANNA JOINER. Probably the daughter of Elisha Joiner and Mary ____, she was born c1826, and apparently died before 1900.

WILLIAM W. BARLOW3, born December 1853 in Alabama, and apparently died before 1930.
He married CAROLINE E. 'DAVIS' / 'OVERSTREET' PERDUE, 27 March 1880 in Conecuh Co Alabama. The daughter of Rhoda Overstreet and William Davis, she died 13 October 1921, (Conecuh Co Death Records show her death as 21 November 1921) burial in Old Town Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama.  She had children by her previous husband, John Larry Perdue, but no children with William.

He married 2) NANCY BROWN.  She was born January 1831 in Alabama.

MANDY BARLOW, born c1862 in Florida. In the 1900 census of Conecuh Co, a Manda Doradan/Dorsdan, 38 year old widow, born May 1862, lives between Mary Barlow Johns and Elias Barlow, which makes me think she is this Mandy.  Marriage records show an Amanda M. Barlow married JOHN D. DREADIN on 04 April 1881 in Conecuh Co Alabama that may be this family, the census record has the name mispelled, or I misread it... Her children, Johnie, daughter, born November 1888, and James B., son, born September 1890.       Census Image    One other note is that Diane Johns believes this to be Amanda, daughter of Jeptha and Sarah, see #3.

WILLIAM JOSEPH 'JOSEY' BARLOW, born May 1863 in Alabama, and died 27 July 1925, burial in Mt Union Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama. He was the second husband of his cousin, FRANCES ELETHIA 'LEATHA' BARLOW, see #16. His death record found on Family search shows birth date as 1867, and his mother to be Nancy McCormick who was the wife of Wm's brother, James, see next....

DELANA / DELANY BARLOW2 (Elias1), daughter of Elias and Jane Barlow, was born April 1840, and died after 1920.  One record tells that Delany was born 13 January 1841 in Conecuh Co Alabama, and died 10 January 1889, burial in Mt. Union Cemetery, Conecuh Co Albama, however, she is living in 1900, age 78, with son Perry, and then in 1910 with her son, Joseph, age 87.

She married BENJAMIN J./F./H. THOMAS, c1858.    He was born in August 1837 in Alabama, and apparently died between 1900 and 1910.

JOHN W. BARLOW2, (ELIAS2), son of Elias and Jane Barlow, was born 19 August 1843 (February 1840 in 1900 census) in Conecuh Co Alabama, died between 1905 in Evergreen, Conecuh Co Alabama, burial in Barlow Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama.

He married 1) SUSAN F., in 1866, and they apparently divorced before 1880. She died at the age of 63, on 09 July 1910, burial in Mt. He married 2) MATILDA 'TILLY / TILDA' FRAZIER on 12 October 1880 in Conecuh Co Alabama.  The daughter William Frazier, she was born February 1860 in Alabama, though her application for pension from John's service, she wrote that she was born 07 September 1850 in Butler Co Alabama, and may have died February 1930 in Covington Co Alabama (Death Records)

Stood 5'10" tall w/blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion.   Source: SOUTHERNERS AT WAR by Arthur E. Green.  Matilda's pension application tells that John died in 1905 in Evergreen, Conecuh Co Alabama.

He married LUCY BOLES.  She was born 27 February 1894, and died 31 August 1983, burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Florala, Covington Co Alabama.  1920 census of Florala, Covington Co Alabama, Nick was age 26, his wife, Lucy, age 25, no children.  I did not locate them in a 1930 census.   

MARTHA CATHERINE BARLOW, (ELIAS1), daughter of Elias and Jane Barlow, was born 30 November 1845, in Conecuh Co Alabama, and died 05 March 1886, burial in Old Sepulga Baptist Church Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama.

She married GEORGE WASHINGTON WINDHAM.  He was born July 1843 in Georgia, and died 22 September 1912 in Conecuh Co Alabama, burial in Sepulga Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama, with unmarked graves on either side of him. (probably each of his wives) After Martha's death, George married second to DICEY ELIZABETH BARLOW, daughter of William and Dicey Barlow on 04 January 1891 in Conecuh Co Alabama.  They had no children.

Information for the Windham family comes from James Windham, who personally knew 4 of the children of George and Martha. He tells that his gr2-grandfather, Elias Aaron purchased 220 acres of land from William and Dicey, part of which he, (James) lives on today, and that 2 of the original homesteads are still standing.

GEORGE WASHINGTON / WILLIAM WINDHAM, JR.3, born 03 November 1866 in Alabama, and died in a sawmill accident on 10 May 1891, burial in Sepulga Cemetery, Conecuh Co Alabama   (Documents showing his middle name as Willam is in existence, while other documents show him as Jr.)
He married MARGARET E. GUYE on 21 November 1888. This maybe an incorrect name. Has this listed in the marriage licenses book but cannot locate her. Can locate a Sarah E. Guye of the correct age and area.
